january JOHNNY WADDELL “It’s impossible to understand the steps I’ve gone through unless you’ve walked them with me. It’s been massive, it’s still going. The brain is weird; it just gets better by itself. You’ve gotta guide it and make sure you don’t do anything stupid – like meth or crack – but time and patience are the best things for recovery.”

MARC HERREMANS “Doctors can already do so many things, like a heart transplant, and find solutions for many problems. I believe that in the end they will also find something that can help people walk again. Even so Paralysis doesn’t stop you doing great things in your life.”

april TAREK RASOULI “People have come to respect me because I suffered an injury from the sport but I’m still here. So, everyone knows it could happen to them, maybe it’s also the fact that they see how much I love the sport and I stand behind it...maybe I stand ‘for it’. I’m just here for real I suppose.”

TARA LLANES “I’ve had some unreal food in some of the finest cities and I’ve I also had plenty of cereal for dinner when I couldn’t afford anything else. I’ve seen overwhelming crowds of 20-30,000 people at races such as the World Cup in Japan and even at the Red Bull race in Portugal. I’ve signed autographs for little girls and for grey haired men and enjoy and appreciate every minute of it... Honestly the list could go on and on. And you know what, I hope it does.”

october STEPHEN MURRAY “The athletes and the riders have been absolutely unbelievable; the support has been way above and beyond what I would have expected. I feel like I’m back in the world again man and it’s great and if it weren’t for the athletes and all their support I’d be sitting on the side of the road somewhere with a big sign saying, ‘Help, me I’ve got no money and a family to look after.’ The support has been unbelievable, thanks a lot, it’s great.”

november Daniel van der Ploeg You don’t have to talk to Dan for long to get the sense that none of today’s small inconveniences really matter. Ever the optimist, Dan puts it all in perspective, “I’m more determined and I certainly know how to see the bright side of things now!” “I’m even competing again, just for the fun of it!”
