W E A R E F U N N Y. . . but not that funny. That being said – this catalogue is our most subtle and underplayed to date as we wish state that our designs can fit in anywhere. We are a multidimensional design studio, and like a chameleon we can change colors to fit into our surroundings whilst always being true to our identity and never change who we are – just how we look. Our designs are born in the borderland between function and decoration – we want our products to be present and ose off being attention seeking items. I established Design by Us in 1999 as a playground for my creativity and untraditional approach to lighting and interior design. In other words, we take the classical Danish design tradition and add our perception of function, shapes and looks. Today we have our own design vocabulary and our inspiration is derived from “what’s in fashion” alongside with humor and curiosity. CASABLANCA It took almost forever to design the perfect dining chair - but now it is here and the long wait was worth the while. We are very proud to present a dining chair that recognizes the Danish design tradition of using nature’s own materials combined with our perception of function, shape and looks. Casablanca is made for long cosy dinners or the perfect chair for business meetings. The stylish look with rounded edges combined with great sitting comfort makes this chair an obvious choice for both dining and business. The chair is made in Denmark. The frame is made of raw or coated metal, the seat and backrest is made in leather. That being said - Casablanca can be customized as you prefer and we offer several types of upholstery and frame colors. Please enjoy!

MARBLE ART The Marble Art lamp is an elegant lamp providing a direct down light. The body is a smooth polished marble cylinder with gold suspension. Each lamp has a unique pattern due to the nature of the marble stone. Thus the name; Marble Art. This is not just an ordinary downlight. The width of the light-cone can be adjusted from narrow to wide. Body in marble and structure in plated iron. Marble Art is available in 4 colors: Charcoal, Brown, Golden and Sand. N E W TA B L E O N T H E B LO C K Leather is a natural and durable material that only gets better when used. The leather ads a warm tactile feeling to the table top and the softness and resilience of the leather is an amazing combination for both good looks and for everyday use.The Skins Table series is highlighting the comfort of a natural tabletop rather thna highligting a stand out design. This table is designed usind a simple metod - for once “less is more”. The table is available in several variations and colors. The Skins table is designed with a simple base in gold or black plated metal and available in 3 sizes and 4 colors, grey, black, moss and brandy. The leather is from the renowned Danish brand Sørensen Leather.

DALLAS CO N T E M P O R A R Y CO M F O R T The Dallas couch has made a come back into our collection. The classic and yet fashionable design is not easy to forget and that is why we have invited the Dallas series back into our collection. We have updated the cushions and the color is now uniform. We offer a large variety of colors and it is only up to you to choose. Here the Dallas couch is shown in an army green variation with aluminum diamond legs just to spice things up a little bit. The Dallas series is inspired by time and trends – it is classic and yet fashionably comfortable. The architectural and simple form with the voluminous rococo inspired legs is a daring mix and ads a nice twist to both lounge chair and sofa - and together with the sleeves you have a perfect opportunity to personalize your furniture.

N E W WAV E S E R I E S The New Wave Optic lamp series is a bright example of how our design can create a room in itself. The series consist of a wall lamp and a pendant which both recognizes the Scandinavian style in its pure simplicity - but when the light is on, it is all but simple. The handblown wavy glass has an amazing effect as it creates an illuminating experience as it makes the light become alive. Especially the New Wave Optic Wall lamp works wonders on any surface and will leave you startruck - if you want to intensify the lamp’s light beams you can add the clear glass Eyeball to the lamp.

CO LO R B LOX The Color Blox rugs are a series of 3 rugs each with its own individual look and colorscheme. The smallest rug is designed in calm green nuances, the medium sized rug is made in matching grey and brown tones for an earthy look, whereas the large rug is designed in a colorful mix of great nuances for a playfull look. Even though each rug has a different look, the design frame is the same - each rug is devided into 6 different blocks of color, hence the name Color Blox. The rug is made in lyocell and available in 3 sizes.

S T R AW TA B L E The round dining table sets the scene for great dinners and happy times among friends and family. The Straw Table is designed to be an expressive dining table with a sense of simplicity. The base consists of 36 iron straws on which the table top rests. The table base has a diameter of 80 cm and is available with a round marble top of 140 cm or 160 cm.

BALLROOM SNOW WHITE The Ballroom series has a new family member. We have added a version in opal throughout the entire ballroom series. The shiny gold base together with the matt snow white glass dome with gold detailing is the perfect mix of materials. The matt opal dome gives a nice and soft light that will add a nice and calm feeling wherever the ballroom lamp is placed.

NUTS ABOUT NUT TY Danish design has a tradition for using the shapes of nature’s own wonders, natural oak and colors – we decided to use the actual nut from the oak tree as inspiration for this new lamp - we added shine and light to it and we like it. It is a little nutty, and that is why we call this new pendant Nutty. Nutty is available in two size. - 35 -

TURKISH DELIGHT The design of the Turkish Delight coffee table is a combination of the simple Scandinavian design and the remarkable pattern of Turkish tiles. The result is a light table with notes of eastern magic. The table is octagonal and the hardened glass top makes this table remarkably sturdy.

NIGHT RIDER Ride all night long – This bold and beautiful lamp will add character to any wall outside – or inside. The rough look in the yet classical material is the perfect combination. The design will add a powerful light experience to the surroundings – you will not be dissapointed. The Night Rider lamp has deserved its cool name. The Night Rider is available in polished brass, raw brass and in black.

A match made in heaven is what one can call this design collaboration between the crystal experts Reflections Copenhagen and Design By Us. The two design companies have put their creative forces together and created this unique lamp series, CARNIVAL. A festive parade consisting of four handmade crystal suspensions and a decadent table lamp.

The original vintage lamp only contains the finest vintage glasses. Wehandpick the glass from flea markets and old glass factories across Europe. This lamp actually also adheres to the principle of upcyclability as we transform the vintage glasses into a beautiful lamp that will be enjoyed for many years to come. All handcrafting and assembling are made in Denmark. The shade is also handmade in our Shade Salon. The Vintage Lamp is making a stronger appearance each year and the expression of the lamp never stops surprising you. Not two lamps are made alike which make them quite unique – they just keep evolving.

You love the chair, but not the fabric and color or you need a lampshade to go with the color of your favorite sofa. Design by Us is giving you the opportunity to design your own lampshade or customize your furniture. We are the most magical lampshade makers ever. We turn any fabric into the most magnificent shade you have ever imagined. Size and shape is not a matter. Silk, velvet, leather, patterned fabrics – we work wonders. All lampshades and special upholstery are handmade and produced in our beloved Salon in Copenhagen NV. We work with renowned fabric designers like Mulberry, Christian Lacroix, Designers Guild and Manuel Canovas – just to name a few. Turn the obvious upside down and twist it. That is what we do – and we are good at it!
