ANYTHING BUT LOW KEY

Rasmus Larsson, designer and creator of Design by Us, lives in a small town close to the sea north of Copenhagen together with his wife, who is also a renowned designer and their 3 children.

The house is a classical Scandinavian 50’ villa, which has been remodelled to fit a modern family of 5. The family has furnished the house with their own designs combined with art and other treasures which make their home very personal. “My house is filled with things that have a history of some sort. I love colors and also quirky things – I am definitely not into mainstream and beige colors. My favorite room in the house is the kitchen and living room area – this is the heart of the house where everything happens; you can cook and take a nap on the couch at the same time – it is brilliant” I am not tip toeing through life and my home reflects that. I am into designs and items that have a story to tell. That is one of my mantras.

After having graduated from the Design School, Rasmus found an old run-down machine shop in Copenhagen Nordvest, he sprayed everything white inside and named his newly started design company: Design by Us. “I have always been very busy creating something,” Rasmus Larsson says.

Rasmus spent a lot of his time in his father’s workshop, and already from a young age Rasmus Larsson began experimenting with painting and welding. “I made all sorts of iron furniture, iron lamps, wooden dressers, you name it” he says.

The feminine Shahin table lamp is placed on a black marble plate. The feminine and masculine is complementing each other.

“It’s just more exciting if things have an edge instead of being standardized. Not a single one of our designs has been created by saying: ‘What is the market in demand for?’ I clearly believe our secret is our changeability and interest in working with new materials and new forms in an unpretentious way.”

The Crazy Flamingo lamp is placed behind the colorful crystal table which is designed by Rasmus’s wife Andrea.

We have created an illusion of exceeding decadence to challenge the intuitive perception of interior design. We want our designs to be recognizable anywhere you see it. That is what we do – and we are good at it!

The beedroom is no exception - the colors are is also dominant here. The headboard is made in dark blue leather - a customized item from Design by Us.
