Water For Our Communities
For the past six decades, our engineers, managers, and technical specialists have created sustainable, reliable, and innovative solutions for our clients and the communities in which we live.
Water For Our Communities
Despite the fact that water is the most basic necessity of life, communities have been challenged to find effective ways to provide dependable water supplies. Recognizing the demands that local governments and agencies face in serving their customers, we offer more than 60 years of experience to help you address specific project needs. Our engineers are skillful with water system components, operational vulnerabilities, and impacts associated with federal, state, and local regulations. We understand our responsibility to the environment and seek to provide solutions that help safeguard our world.
Boyle Engineering Corporation provides a full range of consulting engineering and management services to the water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation sectors. Headquartered in Newport Beach, California, we have offices across the United States. For more than six decades, we’ve been a leader in developing innovative solutions to meet the complex and changing needs of our clients.
Water Resources Delivering excellent water rights studies, alternative supply source analysis, water supply development, raw water conveyance, and conjunctive use has made us a nationwide leader in water resource planning. Hydrology and Hydraulics. For more than 60 years, our engineers have defined geology, stratigraphy, structure, and geohydrologic parameters that contribute to successful groundwater and well projects. Conjunctive Use of Surface and Groundwater has become an extremely important water management tool. Generally, these programs are less costly and cause fewer adverse environmental impacts than traditional surface water projects. Water Rights. Our comprehensive understanding of water rights analyses and investigations helps our clients with all types of acquisitions, transfers, and record retrieval. We offer engineering, technical support, legal testimony, and settlement negotiation services. Design and Construction of Wells. Because more than 400,000 new
wells are drilled each year, proper engineering, construction, and testing are essential for long-term reliability. We have extensive experience providing all aspects of well design and construction. Groundwater Modeling. We apply and develop custom groundwater flow and water quality models to meet your specific project requirements, ranging from simple analytical, to finite-element models in three-dimensions. Groundwater Management. Boyle’s groundwater projects have involved geologic and hydrologic investigations by means of test borings, wells, and geophysical and chemical tracer surveys, as well as basin management plans. Our services include design, planning, and construction management of artificial recharge programs. Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR). Our experience with the permitting, design, and construction management of ASR systems, along with a thorough understanding of the latest issues regarding emerging contaminants in the subsurface environment, positions us to make your ASR project a reality. Planning. Boyle offers comprehensive planning services to identify alternative solutions including stream flows, water rights, reservoir contents/releases, ditch characteristics, diversions, rainfall, snowfall, temperature, evaporation, and groundwater pumping.
Our broad knowledge and proven capabilities help clients navigate complex water issues, while balancing environmental needs and requirements. We offer services to create reliable water supplies, enhance water quality, and assess resource management strategies.
Our engineers remain on the leading edge of water treatment by serving on boards, presenting at conferences, and participating in organizational committees and professional societies such as the American Water Works Association and the American Desalting Association.
Water Treatment Located in offices across the United States, our national network of employees has designed hundreds of water treatment facilities. We’re able to offer our clients an unusual combination of local knowledge and technical expertise.
Conventional Water Treatment When high-quality, protected source waters are available, conventional treatment may still be an appropriate
choice. We design facilities incorporating flocculation, sedimentation, gravity filtration, and chemical-feed systems to produce high-quality, potable water.
We value our client relationships and have a track record of repeat business. For example, we’ve produced three plant designs and subsequent upgrades since the mid-1970s for the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency. Advanced Water Treatment In recent years, our specialists have designed advanced water treatment plants ranging from 30 gpm to 60 MGD. Our experience includes reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, electrodialysis-reversal (EDR), and microfiltration. We perform pilot studies, peer reviews, and evaluations to assess membrane-technology applicability and effectiveness.
Water Storage Our water storage facility designs vary from elevated, open-air, circular, rectangular, ground level, below grade, steel, and concrete.
With expertise in water storage, we work in partnership with our clients to create facilities like a 750,000-gallon elevated steel tank in east Texas, a 5-MG ground-level steel reservoir in Florida, and two 16-MG buried concrete reservoirs in southern California. Impressive Projects. To blend Pomona, California’s 10-MG, concrete reservoir into the surrounding neighborhood, we architecturally-enhanced the 24-foot high perimeter walls and added lush landscaping. Each of the reservoir’s two interconnected compartments has inlet
and outlet piping for circulation and cleaning. Interior columns and a divider wall support the drop-panel roof slab. The wall also transfers roof diaphragm sheer to the foundation. Innovative Solutions. We worked with the City of Oviedo to design Florida’s first innovative ground storage method, using the Dutchland D-115 tank. This circular, pre-stressed tank, has circumferential tendons, and a 6-inch, cast-in-place, concrete slab which uses fiber cement to control cracking.
A significant part of our practice is the transport and distribution of raw and treated water. We’ve designed miles of pipelines, hundreds of pump stations, and a multitude of tanks and reservoirs.
Safety and environmental issues impact how we do business. Our specialized knowledge and skills help us solve any unforeseen challenges that may arise, and navigate the regulatory processes to provide technical solutions in the field.
Pipelines and Pump Stations We know the differences between engineering major transmission and distribution mains, so our approach is to conduct hydraulic analyses, and establish the design before selecting materials. Our scope of services for pipelines goes far beyond planning and design, encompassing pipe-fabrication inspection, construction management, condition assessments, and overall program management. Industry’s Leading Designers. Boyle engineers keep on top of technology by actively participating on AWWA and ASCE national standards, local corrosion, and control system committees. Our pipeline experts are regularly asked to author professional articles and speak at pipeline-related conferences. The Newest Technologies. One of our hallmarks is the application of new pipeline technologies. For example, we have used fiberglass pipe on projects up to 48 inches in diameter, and nearrecord horizontal directional drilling to cross bodies of water. Boyle is at the forefront of pipeline rehabilitation.
Experienced Project Delivery. The demand for project acceleration is growing rapidly. However, the permitprocurement and environmental process can slow schedules. Boyle anticipates these issues by partnering with reputable contractors to deliver design-build projects faster. We’re adept at public bidding, which lowers costs, shortens the time frame, and provides long-term value. Pump Stations. Our capabilities include civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering with the design of instrumentation, controls, and architecture. The Foothills and River Mountains projects in Las Vegas, (totalling 140+ MGD), incorporate these capabilities, and have won industry awards. Both stations have SCADA remote-controls, innovative cooling systems, pump discharge piping with hydraulically actuated cone valves, surge-protection systems, and intake forebays. To meet the Otay Water District in San Diego County’s growth demands, we designed a station with five, 600horsepower, 5,000-gpm vertical turbine pumps which supplement the potable water system. Our design team added an additional sixth, “standby” pump which is used when one of the main pumps is temporarily shutdown for repair or maintenance.
