We Say Farewell!
To Those Who Left Us in 2014
2 Each year for as long as I can remember we seem to lose so many extraordinary people. This year is no different than the others. As this year comes to an end we want to say goodbye to all these influnetial people who have left a landmark in our lives for their many accomplishments, that have left the rest of us with memories, laughter, thought provoking ideas, inspiration, and strength to look at life from their eyes, we say farewell. 1. Lauren Bacall - Most of us remember her beginning her career as a model, she had such a sultry look and was tall. She

took to the camera as she did to any spotlight. She first appeared as a leading lady in the Humphrey Bogart film To Have and Have Not (1944) and continued on in the film noir genre, with appearances in Bogart movies, The Big Sleep (1946), Dark Passage (1947), and Key Largo (1948), as well as comedic roles in How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) with Marilyn Monroe and Designing Woman (1957) with Gregory Peck. Venice, Italy By Hannah Wambold
Venice is located in northeastern Italy and is separated by canals along with 118 other small islands. Bridges connect the islands over the waters of the marshy Venetian Lagoon and “Po and Piave” Rivers. Venice is known for its historically important architecture, artwork, and overall beauty. For these reasons the city and its lagoon have the privelage to be listed as a World Heritage Site. The name “Venice” is derived from an ancient group of people called the Veneti, who resided there around the 10th century. Once the capital of the Republic of Venice, the city has also been referred to as “Queen of the Adriatic,” “City of Water,” and the “City of Masks.” The Republic of Venice was a highly noted maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods, as well as a reputable center of commerce for goods such as silk, grain, and spices. Art was a major center of interest from centuries thirteenth through seventeenth. It is also known for its several important artistic movements, especially the Renaissance period. Venice is also important musically for its role in symphonic and operatic music, and it is the birthplace of Antonio Vivaldi. Due to all of these variations of importance, Venice was a 66
