About The Art And Artists Artwork in this calendar was created by individuals who either live or work in St. Louis Park. An official “call for art” was distributed in early 2018 with the theme “MY ST. LOUIS PARK.” Community members were invited to show us what the city means to them. Nearly 50 pieces were submitted, and final artwork was selected by staff from the City of St. Louis Park, St. Louis Park Public Schools and St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts. Thank you to everyone who submitted their work!
#1. Cover Artwork: Growing Up By: Anne Quan St. Louis Park is where I was born and raised. Everywhere I go, it brings a nostalgic feeling. Whenever I go by the park down the street, it brings back memories of my dad pushing my brother and I on the swings or sledding down the big hill with my neighbors. Seeing all these places from time to time evokes a warm feeling.
#4. October 2018 Artwork: Reflection By: Jesse Valley Photograph from Westwood Hills Nature Center.
#8. February 2019 Artwork: Crabappples in Snow By: Buddy Lingner In my yard, each photo shows a season and I like how St. Louis Park has all four seasons.
#5. November 2018 Artwork: So we were going…SQUIRRREL! By: Daniel Ignatowicz A peaceful environment.
#9. March 2019 Artwork: Cedar Lake Bike Trail By: Kurt Duerksen The Hennepin County trails through St. Louis Park are fabulous. They are a real asset for folks living in the Park.
#2. August 2018 Artwork: Evening Adventure at Wolfe Park By: James Schneeberg Photograph of a child playing in a stream flowing between ponds at Wolfe Park.
#6. December 2018 Artwork: Cedar Manor Park By: Estuardo Montero It is a beautiful place to enjoy with friends!
#3. September 2018 Artwork: St. Louis Park Collage By: Maria Ponce-Khoury’s Park Spanish Immersion 1st grade class St. Louis Park is a fun and safe community where we learn, play and grow each day.
“St. Louis Park is where I was born and raised. Everywhere I go, it brings a nostalgic feeling.”
#10. April 2019 Artwork: Westwood Hills Nature Center Pond By: Rick Person Westwood Hills Nature Center is one of the most beautiful and widely-known parklands in St. Louis Park. I did this small painting of the little pond in front of the education building overlooking the lake during a Friends of the Arts outdoor sketching workshop.

#13. July 2019 Artwork: Oak Hill Park, St. Louis Park By: Samuel Johnson St. Louis Park is a place for me to experience positive change. My artwork tells a story of walking through Oak Hill Park and seeing a tree in transformation, a shelter in shambles and a welcoming warming house.
#14. August 2019 Artwork: Spring in St. Louis Park By: Adela Barrera Oriole on our backyard apple tree.
Vote and w in
#7. January 2019 Artwork: Midnight Walk By: John Hogue Kentucky Avenue – quiet and peaceful.
- Anne Quan
#12. June 2019 Artwork: Baby Turtle by the Trail By: Megan Patterson One of our favorite things about St. Louis Park is all the opportunities to enjoy nature. Exploring along the Cedar Lake Trail is a favorite family activity for us, and every once in a while we find something extra special – like this baby turtle found beside the trail. After the kids got a good look, we watched it make its way towards the lake.
#11. May 2019 Artwork: Beautiful Diversity By: Robin Ignatowicz Created in my home, it represents the beautiful diversity in our community.

Heart of the Matter Community Discussions This new series was created and sponsored by the Community Education Advisory Council (CEAC). It will facilitate a community discussion on different topics each fall, winter and spring. This fall we are partnering with the City of St. Louis Park.
Challenging Racism the Minnesota ‘Nice’ Way
Have you ever been in a situation in which someone says a racist joke or statement? Most of us have, and in Minnesota, being “nice” can stop us from speaking up or knowing what to say. This community conversation is for folks who would like to gain skills and tools to begin conversations about race and racism or interrupt conversations of oppression.
