mankind
manifesto

We
like
all
people,
but
we
love
creative
people
most.
If
you’re
creative
AND
nice?
Even
better. We
think
design
is
super
cool.
But
not
that
normal
design-ness.
Nope. Pure,
cool,
mankind
design. You
won’t
find
celebrities
here.
They
don’t
belong. And
you
won’t
find
trendy
restaurants.
They
don’t
belong
either. In
fact,
they’re
where
the
celebrities
are. We’d
rather
be
eating
Ramen
and
reading
books.
 [Yeah,
we’re
smart,
too.] And
art?
Yes,
art
you
will
find
here. After
all,
Design
is
inevitable.
Celebrated.
Design
for
Mankind.

fortnotes Amir
Fallah
shows

Nighttime, sheets, couch cushions, clothespins, flashlight. All the makings for a good childhood fort. Add a few lamps, some rope and a professional aesthetic and you’ve got yourself a fort built for a king… specifically Amir Fallah, that is. And trust us--- there’s nothing childlike about it...

One morning when I was very young I awoke to find dozens of garbage can-dy pails hidden about our yard. You can imagine my delight discovering the containers, each bearing my handwritten name. It was as if some sweet tooth fairy had paid me a special visit. As it turns out, my uncle was responsible for both the stunt and inspiring my own penchant for tomfoolery. The individuals we speak to here generate that same sense of magic. Crafty ones, they are...

It’s 2am. She’s not scribbling in a notebook. She’s not chugging coffee. You won’t find her pacing in a garden, or clutching her head begging the universe for inspiration. Save the tortured, up-all-night artist clichés for some other time. For the next few minutes, find out what happens when Iefke de Roos dreams. Because dreaming is what she does. Whether it’s asleep at 2am or awake at noon. A mere glance at one of her scrapbooks reveals that the boundary between her literal and figurative dreams is blurry. And like the hazy space one inhabits in dreams, she somehow manages to marry disparate words, phrases, surreal colors, song titles and snippets of life into clear stories that manifest themselves effortlessly and beautifully into her clothing.
