Liisa Maria Tervinen Born in 1985, Finland Lives in Berlin, Germany, works in Helsinki, Finland
Participants forget time and space when creating jewelry at Liisa’s workshops. “I started my company Designhuone as a 23 years old art and design student. The name in my mother tongue Finnish, means a room for design. I’ve always tried to support women to become entrepreneurs or to work with their hands. For my students and customers I gather recycled materials or travel to the edges of the World to buy materials from the small local handicraft workshops. Most valuable materials have a story. In my own work I use also traditional jewelry materials such as silver and fresh water pearls. I love challenges and am not afraid to use a drill, conductive thread or even used tea bags. I want to design and teach people to make creations of art that make people to smile, to wonder or to discover. I’m the author of the book Helsinki FRESH: 25 Young Creatives (Helsinki FRESH, 2011) which guides you into the work of Helsinki based designers and their studios.”

“Perustin Designhuoneen 23-vuotiaana opiskelijana ja olen aina pyrkinyt kannustamaan naisia yritteliäisyyteen ja käsillä tekemiseen. Designhuoneen korunosat ovat joko kierrätysmateriaaleja tai käyn ne itse hakemassa eri puolelta maailmaa pienistä taitopajoista. Parasta on, jos materiaaleilla on tarina. Omissa töissäni käytän myös perinteisiä korumateriaaleja, kuten hopeaa ja aitoja helmiä. Pidän näpertelystä; en kaihda poraa, sähköäjohtavaa lankaa tai käytettyjä teepusseja. Haluan tehdä ja opettaa tekemään teoksia, jotka saavat ihmiset hetkeksi hymyilemään, hymähtämään tai oivaltamaan. Toimittamani Helsinki FRESH: 25 Young Creatives -kirja (Helsinki FRESH, 2011) avaa ovet myös muiden helsinkiläisten suunnittelijoiden työtapoihin ja studioihin.”

Combine beads, pearls, wire, feathers and buttons according to your own taste and style. Create incredible earrings in all sizes and forms. Learn how to use pliers, feathers and wire together with beads.
Workshop: Wire Jewelry Levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced 2, 3, 6 or 9 hours This workshop can be designed for people of all ages starting from 7 years up. Twist, wrap and bend wire into desired forms and shapes. Create necklaces, bracelets, brooches and earrings. Learn how to use pliers and silver or silver plated wire together with beads.
Workshop: Silver Spoon Jewelry Levels: beginners, intermediate, advanced 3, 6 or 9 hours This workshop is for adults. Create unique jewelry from your old silver cutlery. Design and transform spoons into pendants, earrings and bracelets. Learn how to use goldsmith’s saw, pliers, files, hammers and sanding paper.
Workshop: Felt Jewelry Levels: advanced 9 to 15 hours This workshop can be organized together with a felt artist to create the actual felt pieces yourself. A shorter workshop can be arranged with readymade felt objects that are used together with wire and beads to make jewelry. Learn to work with soft and hard materials, thinking about composition and weight together with beautiful color combinations.
Workshop: Beaded Rings Levels: beginner 2 hours This workshop is for all ages starting from 6 years. Create beaded rings with adjustable ring bases, freshwater pearls, glass beads and semiprecious stones. Use jewelry wire, crimp beads and craft glue to attach materials together. Easy and fun workshop for beginners to make multiple rings in short time!
