We ride! “The jump to cycling was a natural progression for NEILPRYDE,” says Brand Manager, Mike Pryde. “As an experienced competitive cyclist with many years of racing behind me I was passionate about developing bikes that can both excel at pro level as well as be ridden by weekend warriors aspiring to climb the most demanding alpine passes or set their personal best time.”
4 ABOUT US
CARBON FIBER Every bike starts with an idea. It comes from cyclists’ needs and from our desire to create more efficient and innovative bikes. We Design, Test and Refine before concepts become reality. NEILPRYDE began manufacturing high-performance carbon fiber products in the late 1980s – launching the innovative Matrix system carbon fiber masts and booms to the windsurfing world, at a time when the Tour de France was being won by greats like LeMond, Delgado and Roche on steel frames. In the last 25 years, NEILPRYDE has been at the forefront of carbon technology and manufacturing processes, allowing us to develop lighter, more responsive, robust and durable record-breaking products for our athletes. Our designers continue to collaborate with independent experts, like BMW DesignworksUSA, testing laboratories and engineers to foster new technologies and advance the performance of our bikes.
Pu
C6.9
Exoskeleton
C6.9 is exclusively composed of the highest-modulus Toray© 46T and 60T, uni-directional carbon fiber possible in bike manufacturing. This blend is 18% stiffer than C6.7 for the same weight, and allows our engineers to ultimately develop significantly lighter frames without sacrificing stiffness.
Tubes, joints and transitions incorporate carbon fiber ribs and gussets in strategic locations for optimum power transfer and riding performance. Developed initially for the DIABLO, the Exoskeleton design has been further refined through finite element analysis and applied in specific locations on the BURAsl.
C6.7
OTP Stiffness
C6.7 carbon fiber is used when a high stiffness-to-weight ratio is required while maintaining adequate compliance for the most challenging of races. A blend of medium and high modulus Toray© T700 and 46T, uni-directional carbon fibers are laid-up to maximize strength and keep the overall weight low. C6.7 fiber offers superior strength and durability compared to the industry standard.
Optimized tube profiles developed using finite element analysis enable frame stiffness to be maximized in critical areas to ensure efficient power transfer.
One-piece Stays
OTP Lightweight
A stiffer, lighter and more responsive bike can be built by reducing the number of joints in the construction of a frame, as extra bonds result in additional carbon required just to bond the numerous pieces together. We developed a unique molding process for the rear triangle that enables the chain stays, rear dropout and part of the seat stays to be molded in one piece, reducing weight and creating a stronger, more durable rear triangle.
The tube profiles are designed to achieve the optimum balance between both characteristics. Result: the ultimate racing and climbing bikes.
PU Molding
OTP Comfort
NEILPRYDE engineers use a PU mandrel, instead of a traditional, silicone one, for more precise control of wall thickness and to prevent “fiber wash” – the misalignment of fibers during the molding process. Used in forming of the intricate head tube and seat tube joints, and bottom bracket shell which are critical for ensuring precise handling and power transfer.
Engineering a more compliant grade of carbon fiber into isolated regions of the frame, combined with adjusting the wall thickness and carbon lay-up in specific tubes, ensures road vibrations are efficiently managed, resulting in a smooth ride.

ABOUT US
AERODYNAMICS NEILPRYDE was founded by an Olympic sailor, whose original goal was to develop a better understanding of aerodynamics and how to manufacture sails that allowed him to go faster. For 40 years we’ve been working on harnessing the wind, and this understanding of aerodynamics has allowed us to bring a fresh perspective to our wind-cheating bike designs. The underlying philosophies behind our aero designs are based on: Real World Aerodynamics: the understanding that when you’re out on the road the wind comes at you from many different wind angles, and very infrequently from 0 degrees (head-on). We design bikes that manage the wind through a wide range of yaw angles. Variable Airfoils: the airflow around a frame varies according to the location. For example, managing the relatively laminar airflow around the head tube requires a different a tube profile compared to smoothing the turbulent airflow around the down tube coming off the rotating front wheel. Hence the utilization of a variety of airfoil profiles in our bikes. Balanced Engineering: Aerodynamics are important, but race bikes also need to be light, stiff, responsive and have confidence-inspiring handling. This approach has lead to designs and engineering solutions unique to NEILPRYDE bikes.
Extended Kamm A truncated airfoil design in the down tube combined with the unique seat tube profile keeps airflow smooth around lower portions of the frame. The result: a drag reducing design that allows a stiff bottom bracket without the penalty of additional weight to achieve the required power transfer.
OTP Aerodynamics Variable tube profiles are optimized to reduce drag through a wide range of wind yaw angles and relative to the nature of the airflow at specific locations on the frame. Wider airfoil profiles are utilised to achieve the balance between aerodynamics and stiffness.
Di2 Integration A number of models feature full Shimano Di2 electronic gear-shifting system integration. Internal cables and battery can be completely hidden inside a cavity, resulting in a cleaner, more aerodynamic design.

BURAsl
The stiff and ultra-lightweight road bike. It’s not just about the weight but what you do with it, too. Designed as the evolution of the award winning DIABLO, the BURAsl was performance engineered to achieve the highest stiffness to weight ratio, ensuring the most efficient and direct power transfer. A number of changes were made to the BURAsl to further decrease the frame weight. The carbon lay-up was reengineered to utilize longer strips of carbon pre-preg instead of shorter pieces, minimizing the number of overlapping layers. BURAsl’s front triangle is made from NEILPRYDE C6.9 unidirectional carbon fiber and incorporates our proprietary Exoskeleton technology. External carbon fiber ribs integrated in the key joints of the monocoque front triangle ensure the BURAsl frame responds immediately each time you step on the power.
The rear triangle incorporates our One-piece Stays, a unique design for the chain stay and carbon fiber dropout, together with ultra-thin seat stays. This combination enables the ride to be tuned for the perfect balance between power transfer and compliance. Carbon fiber front and rear drop outs, a Press Fit 30 bottom bracket and carbon headset cups further reduce the frame weight without sacrificing durability or performance. That is it: bare minimum weight and maximum performance. The only thing we piled on was the unflinching NEILPRYDE attitude, which weighs nothing.

NAZARÉ2
Experience the pure, unrestrained thrill of the NAZARÉ2 aero road bike. Its elegantly engineered form delivers instant response balanced with wind-cheating aerodynamics. A true descendant of the award winning NAZARÉ, NAZARÉ2 embraces its distinctive sense of purpose while reducing drag and improving responsiveness and agility. Each new NEILPRYDE bike starts with a clear target in mind, a bike which we believe is a segment leader. Our design goal is to surpass the performance of that target and launch a new model that exceeds our discerning customers’ expectations. For NAZARÉ2, we looked within, setting out to develop a new aero road bike that surpassed the aerodynamics, responsiveness and race-proven pedigree of the NAZARÉ. But before taking pencil to the paper, we took an eraser. A clean sheet of paper led to a very different design. It’s this philosophy that has resulted in not just a model update, but an entirely new bike. To achieve our aerodynamic goals for the NAZARÉ2 we examined each tube and joint, dissecting how they interacted
with the relative airflow at this point of the frame, modified the design and engineered a significantly faster frame. NAZARÉ2 benefits from the use of NEILPRYDE’s C6.9 ultra-high modulus carbon fibre. This allowed us to create one of the lightest, aero road bikes, tipping the scales at 920g. NAZARÉ2 continues to use OTP Aerodynamic tube profiles and extended Kamm-tail design. First developed for the NAZARÉ by BMW Group DesignworksUSA, they still proved to be the most efficient designs for managing airflow and reducing drag through a wide range of wind yaw angles. Other performance improvements include the use of Shimano’s aerodynamic direct mount brakes on the front fork and under the bottom bracket, internal cable routing and Di2 battery mount, an integrated seat post clamp, and the adoption of the stiffer Press Fit 86 bottom bracket standard.

BENCHMARKING NAZARÉ2 builds on the already impressive performance of the race-proven NAZARÉ, reducing aerodynamic drag by up to 20%. The first diagram below shows drag reduction across a range of wind yaw angles. Each section of the NAZARÉ2 frame has been designed to manage airflow more efficiently, through a wide range of wind angles, taking into consideration how the frame interacts with the wheels and components, and their effect on the upstream airflow. The separation of the lines in both graphs overleaf shows how the drag on the NAZARÉ2 is significantly reduced as the airflow travels along the length of the complete bikes.

NAZARÉ
The perfect all-around race bike, designed in collaboration with BMW Group DesignworksUSA. Aerodynamic, stiff and responsive, NAZARÉ carried the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling team to 99 podiums in 2013. NAZARÉ design reflects the balance between elegant engineering and insane speed. It draws on NEILPRYDE’s 40 years of experience working with the wind and 25 years of carbon fiber expertise. BMW Group DesignworksUSA’s computational fluid dynamics analysis and NEILPRYDE’s optimised tube profile techniques combined to minimise drag while maintaining stiffness and the assured handling you expect from a prolevel race bike. Wider tube profiles have been incorporated to delay flow separation and maintain torsional rigidity. The unique down tube changes shape to manage both laminar and turbulent airflow, and the extended Kamm-tail creates an aerodynamic, lightweight and stiff bottom bracket. The optional 78°sl TT/Tri seat post transforms the NAZARÉ from a traditional road geometry to a triathlon or time trial
specific set up. Perfect, if you’re looking for one bike that can do it all. The NAZARÉ has been further upgraded: • Reduced frame weight: re-engineered carbon lay-up utilizing longer strips of pre-preg carbon to minimize the number of overlapping layers and reduce frame weight. • Increased power transfer: Press Fit 30 bottom bracket and proprietary one-piece chain stay/dropout/seat stay construction. • Dual compatible: full internal cabling, compatible with either mechanical or electronic shifting. All this makes the NAZARÉ the perfect aero race bike if you like to breakaway from the peloton, tackle the longest of training rides or throw in the occasional triathlon... just because you can.

ZEPHYR
Designed for the strongest of racers yet compliant enough for sportive cyclists, the ZEPHYR comes with a geometry suitable for the longest of races. The ZEPHYR shares the same DNA as the rest of the NEILPRYDE range – bikes designed to be raced at the highest level. The front triangle is made from C6.7 carbon fiber and incorporates many of the same features developed for the race proven NAZARÉ and BURAsl. OTP Comfort technology was first introduced in the BURAsl, and was the key factor that allowed the BURAsl to achieve the necessary vertical compliance without sacrificing stiffness. The concept has been further developed in the ZEPHYR with the unique tube profiles utilized in the seat stays and fork. Subtle shaping of the seat stays running into the seat tube, combined with specific carbon lay-up, increases the damping effect of the rear triangle. The curved fork blades absorb vibrations from uneven roads in order to maintain comfort
during the longest of races and stability under braking and cornering. The ZEPHYR geometry has been modified from that found on the NAZARÉ and BURAsl to include a slightly higher head tube to put less strain on your back and neck, a longer wheelbase and a shorter top tube. It’s the right way to get most riders, including many professionals, in the right position. With no need for high-rise stems or spacer stacks, the look is nothing but pro. Vertical compliance, stable handling and efficient power transfer are key factors whether you are a seasoned pro or a weekend warrior. The ZEPHYR raises the enjoyment of cycling for riders of all levels.

BAYAMO
The razor-sharp triathlon bike. An aerodynamic, responsive and comfortable racing machine designed in collaboration with BMW Group DesignworksUSA. Designed in collaboration with BMW Group DesignworksUSA using sophisticated Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations, extensive wind tunnel testing and input from the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team’s TT specialists, BAYAMO is fast and trim, meeting the highest standards for aerodynamics, stiffness and comfort.
The NEILPRYDE Kamm-tail takes advantage of the phenomenon where the “tail” of the airfoil is truncated; cheating the wind into behaving like the truncated surface is still present and minimizing drag. The subtle chamfered trailing edge also reduces turbulence at wider yaw angles, dramatically improving aerodynamic performance.
BAYAMO features NEILPRYDE’s unique Kamm-tail airfoil. While a traditional airfoil profile performs well at narrow yaw angles, it is inefficient at the wider yaw angles of up to 30° experienced by a rider during time trials and triathlons. The narrow profile and long trailing edge of a traditional airfoil are also structurally unsuitable for withstanding the dynamic forces of a powerful rider.
The profile of the NEILPRYDE Kamm-tail airfoil is 10% wider than those found on other leading time trial bikes. This has the dual benefit of delaying flow separation, further reducing drag, and providing an inherent shape that is up to 60% stiffer than traditional airfoils. The result is a frame that balances aerodynamic performance with the stiffness to weight ratios necessary for a professional level race machine.

Ultimate Aerodynamic Performance
Kamm-tail Integration
The Kamm-tail is seamlessly integrated into the trailing edges of the fork, seat tube and seat stays, further increasing stiffness-to-weight ratio and improving aerodynamics
Deep section head tube for improved aerodynamics and management of laminar airflow, combined with the subtle integration of the Kamm-tail airfoil in the down tube to manage turbulent airflow from the rotating front wheel
Power Transfer Chamfered trailing edge of the Kammtail airfoil in the down tube dramatically improves aerodynamics and decreases drag at wider wind angles
Down tube is 10% wider than those found on other leading time trial bikes, and results in an inherent shape that is up to 60% stiffer than traditional airfoils
