Perriand, who was initially trained in conventional Art Deco, changed her direction by embracing machineage aesthetic and joined Le Courbusier’s famous atelier. Although Perriand is perceived primarily as an assistant to Le Corbusier, there have been numerous researches giving examples of Perriand’s design works, showing her independent diverse projects¬ in her long adventurous life and career. An enthusiastic seeker of new inspiration and an actual meaning of domestic life, she brought forward profound aesthetic values and generated a truly sensitivity of modernisma truly sensitivity of modernism

An adjustable feature allows occupants to lean in different reclining positions with an appropriate angle of inclination. It is beautifully illustrated in the iconic photograph of Perriand relaxing on the undulating chaise longue. Refused by Peugeot, the well-known French manufacturer, the designers approached Thonet, and reached agreement for it to be produced in limited quantities.

Design 1: TV Bench Inspired by Charlotte Perriand
529 RIO 1962 Charlotte Perriand
This design is reminiscent of Charlotte Perriand’s experiences from Non-western countries (Japan and Vietnam). Most of her work after she returns back to Paris from, was about simplicity, emptiness and nutural materials and methods.
The two different sides of the TV bench have a different design. On one side constructed by six wooden strips, while on the another side is just one solid wood.
This TV Bench constructs with simple geometry with a solid natural oak in most of every part, except for the sliding doors that made of an oak frame covered with Vienna straw.

In this assignment, I have learnt not only the biography of my assigned
designer, but also the historical context of furniture design in 20th century. As a result of doing the researches on Charlotte Perriand, the first thing I have learnt is that if someone wants to be a sucessful designer, he/she has to be a full-time enthusiastic seeker of new inspiration, too. Getting to learn and know the different styles and pioneers in furniture design of 20th century is very inspirational for my future assignment. Within the limited time, I could not do the research in a depth details of other Charlotte Perriand’s designs. I would like to research more on her work which inspired by Japanese and
