Arian Baptistery Ravenna, Italy Light planning // Marco Silvestrini, Municipality of Ravenna
The Arian Baptistery is thought to have been built by Theodoric the Great, King of the Ostrogoths, between 493 and 526 AD. The centrally planned, octagonal building is topped with a dome covered with a precious mosaic, depicting the procession of the apostles and the baptism of Christ. This contrasts with the bare internal brick walls. The Baptistery received UNESCO World Heritage status in 1996. In 2013, Marco Silvestrini from the Municipality of Ravenna redesigned the lighting for the dome, using Pivot projectors and alternating the cool colour and warm colour versions to ensure that all the original shades of colour were returned to the mosaic.

Mark Rothko Art Centre Daugavpils, Latvija Light planning // Arhis
The Mark Rothko Center is situated in the building of the former artillery arsenal, the Daugavpils Fortress. It was founded by the Russian Emperor Alexander I in 1810 (designed by A. Shtauber) with the aim of enforcing the western borders of the Russian Empire. The building was then left abandoned in 1991. In 2007, Daugavpils City Council of Education and Cultural Affairs Committee decided to establish Mark Rothko Art Center inside the artillery arsenal building and Arhis was entitled of the renovation project, which lead to the opening of the centre in 2013. Saving the original historical project of the building and environment were among the biggest priorities during the process of renovation. The abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko (1903-1970) was very devoted to his birth city Daugavpils (now part of Latvia, then part of the Russian Empire with the name of Dvinsk), though his family emigrated in USA and he spent most part of his life in New York. Today the Centre hosts Rothko’s paintings collection, temporary exhibitions, workshops, conferences and residencies.

Casadei Boutique Rome, Italy Light planning // Arch. Claudio Pironi & Partners
Casadei boutiques, designed by architect Claudio Pironi, feature a number of carefully tailored, quintessential elements. These elements create a unique and enticing atmosphere, filled with light and reflections, which are intensified by particular components within the stores.
Three other Luce&Light lighting installations tailor-made for Casadei stand out in the Florence boutique: the wooden panels covering the stairs expose lighting beneath the treads as well as, behind the counter, stripleds emphasize a composition made of slender wood and mirror panels.
A common and very important element is the large number of dimmable light fittings installed behind a suspended, semi-mirrored glass wall, screen-printed with an asymmetrical striped ‘millerighe’ pattern. These lights (up to 1000, depending on the boutique) have a colour temperature of 3000K and therefore are highly effective, as can be seen in the images.
Moreover, the waxed and sandblasted Afromosia wooden panels composing the Boiserie are angled, leaving fish-gill-like openings, which within have been encased special accent lighting also of 3000K warm colour temperature.
In Rome, gem-set leds positioned behind the shop logo transform it into a precious jewel, which is sparkling light and is capturing the observers.

Budapest Music Center Budapest, Hungary Project // Art1st Design Studio Light planning // Be Light!
The coordinated presentation of the assembled treasures of contemporary Hungarian music - this has been the main aim of Budapest Music Center (BMC) since it was founded in 1996. BMC is made up of three units: the Hungarian Music Information Center and Library, BMC Records and the Concert and Events Hall, whose portfolio of 250 events ranges from classical concerts and international music festivals to private functions, arena concerts, etc. Be Light! which was entitled to design the light of the concert hall, selected Tondo 3D, asking for a customized black version. The decision to use suspended projectors with different heights from the ceiling, as to recall its shape, instead of track-mounted projectors, was due mainly not to overload the ceiling which already hosted a technical structure. Over the last 20 years, the Budapest based Art1st Design Studio has become a full service design company. Awarded for advertising campaigns, and managing print publications in the 90s, later hasopened to the fields of architecture and interior design.
