Temple Song Sophie Bevan soprano Julius Drake piano Songs by

Clara Schumann Fanny Mendelssohn Felix Mendelssohn Frédéric Chopin Franz Liszt Hector Berlioz Robert Schumann The Schumanns at home English soprano Sophie Bevan makes her Temple Song debut on 22nd January opening the Temple Music Foundation’s 2018 season. Clara and Robert Schumann’s musical circle was particularly wide and included celebrated composers, writers and performers living and working in Europe. The programme is drawn from a collection of their friends and visitors, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms and writers Heinrich Heine and Hans Christian Andersen. Rather like the characters who weave through Schumann’s piano cycle ‘Carnival’, here is an imagined concert party in Leipzig in 1841, with four songs from the hosts and each of their celebrated guests.

Bach Clavier-Übung III including “St Anne” Prelude and Fugue The Temple Church’s Associate Organist, Greg Morris, gives the final recital in a series of twenty eight concerts performing all of Bach’s works for the organ in some of London’s most famous ecclesiastical buildings. The recital is a complete performance of Clavier-Übung III, published by the composer as a summation of his art for his own instrument. Bookended by the famous “St Anne” Prelude and Fugue, but rarely performed complete, most of ClavierÜbung III is based on Bach’s selection of the most important Lutheran chorales, and in this performance Greg will be joined by soprano, Grace Davidson, to sing these chorales.
