A Letter from Mayor Ferguson

By the time you read this letter, I will have served as Mayor of Hernando for about two years. During this time, I have enjoyed getting to know more of you across this great community, including the team at the Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce. With continued growth happening, a strong partnership between city hall and our business community remains a priority.

It’s an exciting time. We gathered to cut the ribbon on I-269 that runs through DeSoto County just north of Hernando. We can’t emphasize enough the importance of this national artery for connecting north Mississippi to bigger opportunities. Businesses have always enjoyed our location due to the proximity of Memphis International Airport and the distribution network; now, we have direct access to Canada and Mexico. Looking ahead, one of our priorities is the McIngvale Realignment Road project. With this development, we will add an exit behind the school that allows access to I-269. We hired engineers in 2018 and have made a lot of progress.

The Hernando Farmers Market continues to shine. We received news that our market was awarded a $200,000 grant to help expand our reach and encourage even more local farmers and producers to engage in this vibrant microeconomy happening right on our square. On another front, we are proud of the small businesses that have opened doors in our community and are dedicated to helping them succeed.

I grew up in Hernando and there’s no place I’d rather be to live and work. From the schools to the parks, I always see a familiar face which reminds me of all the reasons I call this place home. I appreciate the opportunity you’ve afforded us to make it even better. If you’re considering a move to the area or already live in Hernando, we encourage you to read on and explore even more about Hernando.
