This Project consists of the interior design of two villas (Villa 1, Villa 2) by the sea in the area of Sofiko, Korinthos. The villas are part of a larger complex and will be used as short term vacation rentals. The exterior architectural design was created by a team of young architects whose vision was to bring to life an idillyc, relaxing space away from the capital, as per the client’s request. The materials chosen for both the interior and exterior are a range of natural textures -wood, rock, cement- and, colors -white,gray, brown-, as the main idea is to make the guest feel as close to their surrounding environment as possible. The client had the idea of a more industrial look in mind. In order to achive that without making the space too brutal and thus unfit of the brief , most of the interior walls were kept as an exposed concrete texture. This also helped keep the costs relatively low.

Athens is one of the most visited -by tourists- cities in Europe. It is however extremely busy and due to its lack of green (parks, for ests, etc.) can be hectic for both residents and tourists. Many peo ple who want to take advantage of Athens’ advantages and choose it as their area of residence, often need a nearby escape. That is usually a drivable distance which is going to allow them to take a break from everyday life and enjoy the nature and tranquility with out having to transport too far away from their responsibilities.

Some of the exposed concrete walls are smoothened to crete a more toned down effect of the industrial style and shift it more towards the earthy aesthetic. The interior materials are as minimal as possible and there is no need for many dec orative objects as the texture of the walls is enough to create a balance.

The name of this project is self -explanatory. ‘Solonos Apartment’ due to it, being located on Solonos’ Street, in the heart of Athens. The rise of popularity of short-term vacation rent al platforms in the recent years (Airbnb, Vrbo, etc.), has led to an incredible amount of people turning their homes into secondary (or sometimes) full time businesses. That increased range of options has made it dif ficult for houses to stand out in the crowd. This apartment was designed with that narrative in mind- being able to stand out while someone is scrolling on a rental platform-. And what is the easiest way to make something stand out? Contrast. After some research on these platforms, it was clear that all of them used white backgrounds when it came to their listings page. Many Athenian apartments inspired by the Greek tradi tional architecture tried to mimic the all-white aesthetic, leading to their listings getting lost and blended into the background.

Solonos’ Aparment has a dark, moody, luxurious aesthetic, due to its colors, materials and use of mirrors, that is easy and exciting to photograph and creates a very eye-catching result. That will not only be beneficial in terms of the listing’s photography, but in an age of social media where everything revolves around show casing one’s best life on the internet many customers will be intrigued by the multiple strategically thought out photogenic spots in the apartment, and would most likely wish to test them out themselves.

EXPERIMENTATION

Experimentation is key to a successesful design Inspiration doesn’t come overnight It is important to test out even seemingly odd ideas Even if they don’t work out it is possible that they might lead to something that does work Small apartments are like a brainteaser You often have to think outside the box to make everything fit and it is extremely rewarding exploring all the possible sollutions and possiblities of an once, squared, empty space

As seen in the cover photo of this project, the bathroom has a unique arched indent wall around the Constructionvanity.drawing explaining the mirror detail. In order to cre ate a hidden light effect the LED strip must not be visible. A sec ondary bigger arched wall will be created and placed directly behind the main arched wall.

He and his team are attempting to create a col laboration with local municipality in order to at tain the necessary permits and bring this vision to life. They were asked to create a presentation to por tray the vision, which is what i mainly did for them. Renderings of the spaces, a brand identi ty and collages to visualise the ideas were created.

The main emphasis always being sustainabili ty, eco-friendly materials and connection with nature.

People tend to lose their touch with nature more and more over the years even though its benefits for hu man have scientifically been proven multiple times.

In an attempt to raise awareness and educate the youngsters, a Greek entrepreneur and nature enthusiast is looking to create a space where families and friend groups can gather to enjoy an amazing scenery in the foothills of mount Hymmetus in Glyfada. He wishes to create a botanical garden where young kids can learn and part-take in agricultural activities, a barn with animals where they can interact with donkeys, horses, ducks and chickens, a cafe for parents to relax and a bmx outdoor track for adventure lovers.

Minimalism is not just an aesthetic artistic movement. For many people it is a way of life. It influences day to day life dicisions, such as wardrobe choices, cleaning habbits, supermarket shopping, spend ings, savings, mindsets and many other areas. Minimalist spaces create a tranquility, a peace of mind, it helps declutter and focus eas ier on tasks. Studies have shown that it can be also stress-reducing.

A very often challange for first home owners is their desire to in corporate everything they like. Different styles, different colors, different materials. This in some cases can work, but most often it creates confussion. A solution could be to avoid bold decisions when it comes to the ‘steady’ elements of the house. These being the walls, floors, kitchen, bathroom tiles, doors, closets, sofa and bed. If these elements are minimalistic and neautral-toned it is easy with some very simple changes to completely transform the style of a house multiple times troughout the years. Cushions, throws , wallart, statement light fixtures, carpets, chairs , mirrors, flowers or even wallpapers and other decorative objects , will completely transform the space without having to start from scratch again. This was the case in this project. A renovation in the area of Perissos where the young woman moving did not want to make any choices she would later maybe wished to change.

In a more practical sense minimalism can be seen as a white can vas. Homes are meant to be lived in, to be enjoyed, to be changed.

During an apartment renovation in Kallithea I was asked to rede sign the living room and kids’ room. The lady was a big fan of wall paper murals and classical art. She was open to design suggestions, additionally to some things she had specifically had asked for.

The proposed designs were inspired by midcentury furniture and classical paintings for the wallpapers with a modernized twist. Even though she really liked them, she felt they might be limiting in the fu ture if her daughhters wanted to change the house and we went with a more minimal modern look while keeping some classical elements.

The addition of intricate wallpapers is one of the fastest and inexpen sive ways to uniformally decorate a room without adding multiple small pieces of art, that often make a room heavy and distracting.

A common misconception about small apartments is that they are not as exciting as bigger ones. I find this to be rather un true. They can have character, style and lots of imagination. When dealing with small apartments it is easy to focus on detail, and take advantage of every available small corner in a room.

Women on average wear less than 50% of the items in their ward robes. Every year millions of fashion pieces are thrown away with some of them never even being used. Recently many companies start to turn their focus on sustainability and eco-friendly materi als and practices but few explore ways in which we could reduce unnecessary purchases or even reuse already purchased items.

Ornees is an innovative fashion startup idea which deals with the idea of multipurpose products. That means that an item could have more than one uses..

More specifically Ornees’ main product is a deorative piece, which can be adjusted to bags, belts shoes and any other ap propriate flat surface imaginable. That way owning mul tiple of this small accessorries and (for example) only one bag allows you to change between them and create differ ent combinations, feling like you own multiple different bags. It aims at a luxurious clientele which is proven to be the least sensitised audience towards sustainability. This au dience influences a lot of brand and design decisions.
