CAPE ROMAIN LIGHTHOUSES TOUR

Four times each year, Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge offers a tour to Lighthouse Island, where you can view two historic lights built in 1827 and 1857. The lights are a significant maritime landmark and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1827 lighthouse is the oldest of its kind still standing in the United States. SHARK FOSSILS & FACTS KAYAK TOUR

Head out to an island in the Stono River by sea kayak to find prehistoric shark teeth, vertebrae, ray mandibles, and more on a fullday guided adventure. AWENDAW CREEK PADDLE & HIKE

Nestled between Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge and Francis Marion National Forest is Awendaw Creek. This is literally where the land and ocean meet, creating a dynamic edge where the live oak and palmetto landscape ends, and the saltmarsh begins. Wildlife like black skimmers, kingfishers, oystercatchers (and oysters!), fiddler crabs, and dolphins make their home in and around this protected water trail. After a 4-mile paddle, hike the end portion of the Palmetto Trail known as the Awendaw Passage for unique elevated views. Duration: 5 Hours

SHEM CREEK & BOARDWALK

Inshore Creek Fishing

Visit historic waterfront and seafood district of Mount Pleasant. Shem Creek has a park and boardwalk offering panoramic views of the marsh and Charleston Harbor.

Fish our tidal creeks and salt marshes for redfish, sea trout, flounder, sharks, and more.

A total of 2,200 feet long, the boardwalk provides visitors with a convenient and picturesque pathway to take an après-seafood stroll along the marsh. Standing at the harbor end of the walkway, you can see all the way from Fort Sumter to Castle Pinckney. From there, you can walk to the recreational docks, or take the span that leads to the commercial docks where you can get a close-up look at working shrimp and crab boats with the local pelicans.

Crab the old fashioned way, with a handline & net, & enjoy fresh local steamed crabs on a pristine barrier island beach. We release the crabs we catch but bring a bushel of fresh crabs to steam and serve on the beach. Get off the boat on the salt marsh side of Capers Island. You are free to explore the island.
