Numerous embassies and local and international organizations will be taking part and, as in previous years, all proceeds will be donated to charity. The 6th Annual Coca-Cola Sarajevo Holiday Market will be held this year in Hastahana Park in Marijin Dvor, a much larger area in the center of town. As the merriest of Sarajevo winter events, the Market is set to run from Dec. 7, 2016 to Jan. 14, 2017, providing a chance to mark all of the major holidays celebrated in Sarajevo at this time of year – the Jewish Hanukkah, the Catholic and Orthodox Christmases and the New Year, according to both the Gregorian and Julian calendars. We have also prepared quite a show to wrap up this year and to ring in the next! The City of Sarajevo will be organizing a New Year’s Eve concert featuring our biggest music star, the great Dino Merlin, as well as other guests. This year’s event will be held at Trg BiH in Marijin Dvor.

I ove godine će građani i posjetitelji Sarajeva moći pronaći cijeli svijet na jednom mjestu, u dvorani Mirza Delibašić, KSC Skenderija, gdje će u subotu, 3. decembra biti održan veliki Diplomatski zimski bazar. Na Bazaru će učestvovati brojne ambasade, domaće i međunarodne organizacije, a cjelokupan prihod koji bude ostvaren realizacijom događaja bit će, kao i obično usmjeren u dobrotvorne svrhe. Šesti Coca – Cola Sarajevo Holiday Market se ove godine održava na znatno većem prostoru u centru grada, parku Hastahana na Marijin Dvoru. Najveseliji sarajevski zimski događaj trajat će od 7. decembra 2016. do 14. januara 2017. i na njemu će biti proslavljeni svi značajniji blagdani koji se u ovo doba godine slave u Sarajevu - jevrejska hanukkah, katolički i pravoslavni božić i nove godine po gregorijanskom i julijanskom kalendaru. A, za sam kraj ove i početak naredne godine pripremili smo pravi spektakl. Jer, na javnom dočeku Nove godine u organizaciji Grada Sarajeva, koji će ovog puta biti održan na Trgu Bosne i Hercegovine na Marijin Dvoru, nastupit će naša najveća muzička zvijezda, fantastični Dino Merlin sa gostima.

apital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo is the largest city and country’s administrative, economic, cultural, university and sport center. The City of Sarajevo is comprised of four Municipalities: Stari Grad, Centar, Novo Sarajevo and Novi Grad.

Situated in the area called Sarajevo Plain, the town is surrounded by mountains – Jahorina, Bjelašnica, Igman, Treskavica and Trebević. River Miljacka flows through the city.

Sarajevo je smješteno na prostoru Sarajevskog polja. Okruženo je planinama Jahorinom, Bjelašnicom, Igmanom, Treskavicom i Trebevićem. Kroz grad teče rijeka Miljacka.

Bosniaks, Croats, Serbs, Jews, Roma and other ethnic groups live in Sarajevo. The religions represented are Catholicism, Christian Orthodoxy, Islam and Judaism.

The area that Sarajevo occupies has been continuously inhabited since the Prehistoric period. It becomes a city with the arrivals of the Ottomans in 15th century, and a capital of independent BiH in 1992. Sarajevo has always connected East and the West thus creating a unique blend of history, culture and heritage.

Skenderija Cultural and Sports Center (KSC Skenderija) Kulturno sportski Centar Skenderija

he Skenderija Cultural and Sports Center is located in the center of Sarajevo, on the left bank of the Miljacka, and occupies about 70,000 m2. The name of this center, as well as the entire neighborhood that extends further to the east, takes its name from Skender Pasha, an Ottoman governor who had a trading center with 11 shops, caravanserai, palace, soup kitchen and tekke built here in 1499. In 1518, his son, Mustafa Bey Skenderpašić, had BiH’s first cupolated mosque built next to his father’s tekke. When Bosnia was part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the lead roof was removed and replaced with a copper one, which had never been done before, and the cupola collapsed. The rest of the structure had fallen into disrepair by 1935, leaving only the minaret, which was removed in 1960, when KSC Skenderija was constructed. The new center was opened by then-President of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito. The ceremony took place on November 29, 1969, which was celebrated as Republic Day back then, and included a special screening of the film, The Battle of the Neretva. This huge complex was designed by the architects, Živorad Janković, Halid Muhasinović and Ognjen Malkin, and that year, Borba, a Belgrade newspaper, named it the best

Ime je ovaj Centar, baš kao i cijelo naselje što se od njega pruža dalje na istok, dobio po osmanskom namjesniku Skender - paši, koji je 1499. na tom prostoru sagradio trgovački centar sa 11 dućana, karavan saraj, dvor, imaret i tekiju. Njegov sin Mustafa - beg Skenderpašić je 1518. godine, uz očevu tekiju, podigao prvu potkupolnu džamiju u BiH. Za vrijeme Kraljevine Jugoslavije sa te džamije je skinut olovni pokrov kako bi bio zamijenjen bakarnim, što se nikada nije desilo, pa se kupola urušila. Ostatak građevine srušio se do 1935. godine, ostavljajući za sobom samo munaru, koja je uklonjena 1960. godine, zarad izgradnje kulturno - sportskog centra. Centar Skenderija je na tadašnji Dan Republike, 29. novembra 1969. godine, uz specijalnu projekciju filma “Bitka na Neretvi” otvorio predsjednik SFRJ Josip Broz Tito. Ovaj ogromni kompleks, kojeg su projektovali arhitekti Živorad Janković, Halid Muhasinović i Ognjen Malkin, te je godine od strane beogradskog lista “Borba” proglašen

architectural work in all of Yugoslavia. Skenderija hosted the figure skating competitions and hockey matches during the XIV Winter Olympic Games, and it was a venue for other prestigious sporting events, including the World Table Tennis Championships (STENS), the European Basketball Championship Finals, Qualifying games for 1970 FIBA World Championship, the ParlovGreene boxing match…. Dom Mladih is a facility that operates as part of KSC Skenderija and takes up more than 7,000m2. Not long after opening, Dom Mladih became a popular spot for youth. The hall can accommodate 2,000 guests, the amphitheater can seat 250 and there’s the Kaktus Disco Club, which was later symbolically called “Vučko”, after the mascot for the Sarajevo Olympic Games. This facility provided Sarajevo with a place where young people could be creative and where emerging pop and rock stars and groups got their start. These groups and singers would later become big names on the local music scene: Bijelo Dugme, Dino Merlin, Plavi Orkestar, Crvena Jabuka.... The name of this center, as well as the entire neighborhood that extends further to the east, takes its name from Skender Pasha, an Ottoman governor who had a trading center with 11 shops, caravanserai, palace, soup kitchen and tekke built here in 1499. Dom Mladih suffered heavy damage when it was shelled and burned in 1992 and the rest of KSC Skenderija was also badly damaged during the last war. In the years following the war, Skenderija resumed its function as a cultural, sports and fair venue and Dom Mladih reopened in 2007. KSC Skenderija now hosts sporting events, cultural manifestations, fairs and congresses and the “Underground City” has many shops, eateries and cafes. Skenderija is also home to the Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art, the City Gallery – Collegium Artisticum and the Charlama Gallery of Modern Art. The plaza in front of Skenderija has recently gained a brighter appearance and there is a sculpture, called “Teta Razapeta” by Sarajevans, that welcomes arrivals with open arms. This Figura na Stolici is the work of BiH sculptor, Alija Kučukalić and, for decades, it has served as a meeting point in town.

Na površini od preko 7000 kvadratnih metara u sklopu KSC Skenderija djeluje Dom mladih. Sa dvoranom za 2000 posjetilaca, amfiteatrom sa 250 sjedišta, te disko klubom “Kaktus” (koji je kasnije simbolično nazvan “Vučko”, po maskoti sarajevske Olimpijade), Dom mladih je nedugo po otvaranju postao kultno okupljalište mladih. U njemu je Sarajevo dobilo prostor u kojem je poticano stvaralaštvo mladih, mjesto gdje su svoje karijere započinjali neafirmirani pop i rock izvođači, koji su kasnije postali velika imena domaće muzičke scene, poput: Bijelog dugmeta, Dine Merlina, Plavog orkestra, Crvene jabuke... Dom mladih je u maju 1992. granatiran, zapaljen i znatno oštećen, a ogromna oštećenja je u posljednjem ratu pretrpio i ostatak kompleksa KSC Skenderija. U godinama nakon rata Skenderija je povratila funkciju kulturnog, sportskog i sajamskog središta, dok je Dom mladih ponovno otvoren 2007. godine. U dvoranama KSC Skenderija danas se održavaju sportske i kulturne manifestacije, sajmovi i kongresi, dok su u podzemnom „Privrednom gradu“ smještene brojne prodavnice i ugostiteljski objekti. U sklopu Skenderije djeluju i Muzej savremene umjetnosti Ars Aevi, Gradska galerija Collegium Artisticum, te Galerija savremene umjetnosti Charlama. A, na ulazu na plato KSC Skenderija, koji je odnedavno zasjao u novom ruhu, posjetitelje raširenih ruku dočekuje „Figura na stolici“, rad bh. skulptora Alije Kučukalića, koji je među Sarajlijama poznatiji pod nazivom „Teta razapeta“ i koji već decenijama predstavlja tačku susreta u Sarajevu.

Ashkenazi Synagogue A{kena{ka sinagoga

Ashkenazi Synagogue was built in 1902 by Karl Paržik as the first religious object to be constructed in a then-popular pseudo-Moorish style. It is the third biggest synagogue in Europe. Baščaršija is the heart of old Sarajevo. The building started in 1462 and reached its culmination by the middle of 16th century. In the center of it is Sebilj (from Arabic word depicting a kiosk-like public fountain) designed by the Czech architect Alexander Vitek. Baščaršija je srce starog Sarajeva. Izgradnja je započeta 1462. godine, a procvat doživljava u 16. stoljeću. U centru Baščaršije se nalazi Sebilj (ar. Sebilj - javna česma u obliku kioska) kojeg je dizajnirao arhitekt Aleksandar Vitek. Cathedral of Jesus’ Sacred Heart Katedrala Srca Isusova

The seat of the Archbishop of Vrhbosna (Upper Bosnia), Cathedral of Jesus’ Sacred Heart, was built in a neo-gothic style in 1889. The tomb of Josip Štadler, Archbishop of Vrhbosna from the turn of the 20th century, is located in the Cathedral. Katedrala Srca Isusova prvostolna je crkva Vrhbosanske nadbiskupije, a sagrađena je u neogotičkom stilu 1889. godine. City Hall Vije}nica

Built in 1896 in the Pseudo-Moorish style, Vijećnica served as the seat of city government and would come to house the National Library after World War II. When the library was bombed and burned in 1992, the majority of the library’s collection went up in smoke. After nearly two decades of renovation, Vijećnica re-opened its doors on May 9, 2014. Vijećnica je izgrađena 1896. u pseudomaurskom stilu kao sjedište gradske uprave, da bi nakon Drugog svjetskog rata u njoj bila smještena Nacionalna biblioteka. Biblioteka je 1992. granatirana i zapaljena i tom prilikom je izgorio i veći dio knjižnog fonda. Nakon skoro dvije decenije obnove Vijećnica je ponovo otvorena 9. maja 2014. godine. Gazi Husrev Bey’s Mosque is the most important Islamic house of worship in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Constructed in 1531, it was left to the city by Gazi Husrev Bey, the Ottoman ruler of Bosnia. The mosque is only a part of Gazi Husrev Bey’s substantial bequest to the city. Gazi Husrev-begova džamija je najznačajniji islamski vjerski objekt u BiH. Izgrađena je 1531., a zadužbina je Gazi Husrev-bega, tadašnjeg osmanskog namjesnika. Džamija je samo dio velike Gazi Husrev-begove ostavštine. The Latin Bridge

Latinska }uprija

The Latin Bridge was built in 16th century but acquired world fame for the infamous Sarajevo Assassination. Precisely from this spot Gavrilo Princip shot and killed Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne - archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophia, which triggered the start of World War I. Latinska ćuprija je izgrađena u 16. stoljeću, a postala je svjetski poznata po Sarajevskom atentatu. Tu je Gavrilo Princip usmrtio austrougarskog prijestolonasljednika Franza Ferdinanda i njegovu suprugu Sofiju, što je bio povod za početak Prvog svjetskog rata. The Old Orthodox Church Stara pravoslavna crkva

The Old Orthodox Church was built in 16th century. Unique for its atypical architecture, this church has been safe guarding holy icons and religious relics for centuries. There are several interesting legends and folk tales related to its founding. Stara pravoslavna crkva sagrađena je u 16. stoljeću. Tunnel of Hope Tunel spasa

Built under the runway of Sarajevo Airport in 1993, the Tunnel of Hope was the city’s only connection with the outside world during the four years of siege. A portion of it remains open today. (For organized tours contact tourist agencies.) Tunel spasa izgrađen je ispod aerodromske piste 1993. i bio je jedina veza Sarajeva sa ostatkom svijeta za vrijeme četverogodišnje opsade. The section known as Gazilerski Put ran from Koševski Potok to Veliki Park and was named after Ajni Dede and Šemsi Dede, two dervishes and warriors whose tomb was where the Health Agency building is now. Žabljak or Hadži Idrisova Mahala was between Veliki Park and Dalmatinska, and the area around Vječna Vatra was called Bare. The names Žabljak (žaba = frog) and Bare (bare = pond) denote a swampy area, and the stream, Buka, flowed down Dalmatinska. After Austro-Hungarian occupation, the section from Koševski Potok to Baščaršija was called Ćemaluša, but was renamed Franza Ferdinanda following the Sarajevo Assassination. A new street, Aleksandra I Karađorđevića, was laid out in January 1919, between Marijin Dvor and Baščaršija. From 1941 to 1945 it was called Ante Pavelića, after the Ustaša leader. On April 6, 1945 it was named after Josip Broz Tito, President and Field Marshal of the SFR Yugoslavia. In 1993 the street was bisected: The part from Marijin Dvor to Vječna Vatra remained Maršala Tita and the part that continues on to Baščaršija became Mula Mustafe Bašeskije.

Dionica od ulice Kralja Tvrtka do Koševskog potoka zvala se Gornja hiseta (gornji dio), u narodu i Podmagribija, po džamiji i mahali Magribiji. Od Koševskog potoka do Velikog parka vodio je Gazilerski put, koji je ime dobio po dervišima i gazijama (herojima) Ajni-dedi i Šemsi-dedi, čije se turbe nalazilo na mjestu Higijenskog zavoda. Između Velikog parka i Dalmatinske bio je Žabljak ili Hadži Idrisova mahala, dok se prostor oko Vječne vatre zvao Bare. Iz imena Žabljak i Bare vidi se kako je cijeli taj kraj bio močvaran, pošto je niz Dalmatinsku tekao potok Buka. Iza austrougarske okupacije ulica od Koševskog potoka do Baščaršije nazvana je Ćemaluša, a nakon Sarajevskog atentata današnja ulica se zvala Franza Ferdinanda. Januara 1919. formirana je ulica od Marijin Dvora do Baščaršije, koja je nazvana po Aleksandru I Karađorđeviću. Od 1941. do 1945. zvala se po ustaškom poglavniku Anti Paveliću, da bi 06. aprila 1946. bila nazvana po predsjedniku i maršalu socijalističke Jugoslavije - Josipu Brozu Titu. Ratne 1993. podijeljena je na dva dijela. Od Marijin Dvora do Vječne vatre vodi Maršala Tita, dok se ostatak do Baščaršije zove Mula Mustafe Bašeskije.

The National Museum of BiH is the oldest and most significant institution of its kind in BiH. Approximately four million items are housed in collections representing the fields of archeology, ethnology and the natural sciences, plus the museum has its own botanical garden, with more than 3,000 plant species. katerina Vereshchagina, a Russian ballerina, was born in Sochi and moved to Sarajevo in 2006 to be closer to her mother, also a ballerina, who moved to Rijeka, in 1994. In 2006 the National Theater was accepting new dancers and Ekaterina thought she would try her luck here and she has no regrets. - I finished ballet school in Krasnodar, where I danced for ten years. After graduating I left for Sarajevo, where I gained the trust of officials who gave me solo parts. Now I pass on my knowledge to children, Ekaterina relates in fluent Bosnian! She remembers that when she first arrived, buildings still bore traces of the last war and even ordinary fireworks on the Day of the City were quite a traumatic experience. - I understood Bosnian because we have many similar words, but I didn’t speak until I had learned it well. When I first came, I heard many stories about the war and I am glad the city has come along well over the past decade, which even my grandmother notices when she visits every other year. She has started a family in Sarajevo and tries to spend every free moment with her husband and son.

Kako je sarajevsko Narodno pozorište te 2006. primalo plesače, Ekaterina je odlučila ovdje okušati sreću i kaže da se zbog toga nije pokajala. - Baletnu školu završila sam u Krasnodaru, gdje sam plesala od desete godine. Nakon diplomiranja odabrala sam posao u Sarajevu, gdje sam tokom vremena zadobila povjerenje autoriteta koji su mi dali solo uloge, a danas svoje znanje prenosim na djecu - kazala nam je na tečnom bosanskom. Sjeća se da su, kada je tek stigla ovdje, na zgradama još uvijek bile primjetne posljedice rata, pa je i obični vatromet na Dan grada znao biti traumatično iskustvo. - Razumjela sam vaš jezik, jer imamo dosta sličnih riječi, ali nisam govorila sve dok ga dobro nisam naučila. Kada sam tek došla čula sam mnogo priča o ratu i sretna sam što je grad dosta napredovao u zadnjih desetak godina, što primjećuje i moja baka, koja mi u posjet dolazi svake druge godine. U Sarajevu je osnovala porodicu, pa se trudi svaki slobodan trenutak provesti sa suprugom i sinom.

- My son enjoys watching my ballets. He was peeking in on rehearsals for Omer and Merima, a lovely story, which reminds one of Romeo and Juliet. I play my part in it and the music compels one to dance. She shares that she has made many friends and she spends time with Ljudmila Valjevac, another Russian lady, who runs a beauty salon. - The loveliest view of Sarajevo is the one from the old train station in Bistrik, where my husband and I had our photo taken after our wedding. You are in the city and you can see Baščaršija, with its must-sees, Vijećnica and Sebilj. She loves to read Ivo Andrić’s books and listen to Đorđe Balašević’s music, which calms her and makes her think. She says that guests should visit the mountains around town and take a walk to Dariva, Vrelo Bosne and along Wilson’s Promenade, which is fairy tale-like in autumn. - The loveliest view of Sarajevo is the one from the old train station in Bistrik, where my husband and I had our photo taken after our wedding. You are in the city and you can see Baščaršija, with its must-sees, Vijećnica and Sebilj. Her favorite Bosnian foods are sitni ćevap, Bosnian pot and other cooked dishes, but she has zeljanica and sirnica at Oklagija and Bosna. - I love the aščinicas, ASDŽ and Hadžibajrić, which always serve fresh food; I go to Mrkva or Hodžić for ćevapi and I enjoy the interior at Steak House in Baščaršija. I like the fact that Sarajevo serves quality foods that everyone can afford. Her favorite sweets are tufahija and šapa from Ramis and she likes to sit at Vatra, Torte i to and Four Seasons during the summer, and when the weather turns bad she goes to Zaplet or Aroma Bar in East Sarajevo. - I like to crochet, knit and give my crafts to people I care about because there’s nothing nicer than making something and giving it from the heart. I think belenzuks and copper items from Kazandžiluk make the loveliest Sarajevo souvenirs. Ekaterina lives with her family outside the city center, near Vraca, in a house that is surrounded by flowers and she always brings new bags of seeds from Russia. She describes Sarajevo, her new home, with the following: - This is a city worth visiting, a city of sociable people and a contact between cultures that is not to be found elsewhere in such a small place!

- Sin voli gledati moje predstave. Zavirio je i na probu „Omera i Merime“, prelijepe priče koje sam dio, a koja podsjeća na Romea i Juliju i čija te muzika odmah povuče da igraš. Naglašava da je u Sarajevu stekla dosta prijatelja, a često se druži i sa zemljakinjom, Ruskinjom Ljudmilom Valjevac, koja u Sarajevu drži salon ljepote. Otkriva kako voli čitati knjige Ive Andrića i slušati muziku Đorđa Balaševića, koja je smiruje i tjera na razmišljanje. Gostima Sarajeva preporučuje da posjete planine oko grada, prošetaju Darivom, Vrelom Bosne i Vilsonovim šetalištem, koje smatra bajkovitim u jesen. - Najljepši pogled na Sarajevo je onaj sa stare željezničke stanice na Bistriku, gdje sam se sa suprugom slikala nakon vjenčanja. U gradu si, a sa visine gledaš Baščaršiju, gdje obavezno treba otići vidjeti Vijećnicu i Sebilj. Od bosanskih jela najdraži su joj sitni ćevap, bosanski lonac i razna kuhana jela, ali i zeljanica i sirnica, koje jede u buregdžinicama Oklagija i Bosna. - Volim aščinice ASDŽ i Hadžibajrić, gdje je uvijek svježa hrana, na ćevape idem u Mrkvu ili kod Hodžića, a uživam i u enterijeru Steak Housa na Baščaršiji. Sviđa mi se što Sarajevo nudi kvalitetna gotova jela po cijeni koju svako sebi može priuštiti. Omiljeni kolači su joj tufahije i šape u Ramis-u, ljeti voli sjesti u Vatru, Torte i to i restoran Four Seasons, a kad je lošije vrijeme odlazi u kafe Zaplet ili u Aroma bar u Istočnom Sarajevu. - Najljepši pogled na Sarajevo je onaj sa stare željezničke stanice na Bistriku, gdje sam se sa suprugom slikala nakon vjenčanja. U gradu si, a sa visine gledaš Baščaršiju, gdje obavezno treba otići vidjeti Vijećnicu i Sebilj. - Volim heklati, plesti i svoje rukotvorine poklanjati dragim ljudima, jer je najljepše stvoriti i pokloniti nešto od srca. Mislim da su najljepši suveniri iz Sarajeva belenzuci i bakarni proizvodi iz Kazandžiluka. Sa porodicom živi izvan centra grada, poviše Vraca, u kući okruženoj cvijećem, a iz posjeta Rusiji uvijek se vraća sa novim kesicama sjemena za cvijeće. A, Sarajevo, svoj novi dom opisuje riječima: - Ovo je grad koji vrijedi posjetiti, grad društvenih ljudi i spoja kultura kakvog nigdje nema na tako malom prostoru!

idal Ferhatović, a former member of FC Sarajevo and owner of the restaurant, Fan Ferhatović, comes from the famous Sarajevo family of athletes and restaurateurs. He is a Baščaršija kid, having grown up there, and it is where he lives and works. He says that Sarajevo’s greatest attractions are Baščaršija, which is loveliest in the early morning, and traditional Bosnian food, which should be enjoyed “with merak” (pure joy). - One should visit restaurants that have a history, that have their own story and a special charm, like Hadžibajrić Aščinica, which has been around for over 100 years. He also says that the real Sarajevo attractions are local ćevabdžinicas. - Mrkva, Kurto and Ferhatović are three of the oldest ones and they, along with Hodžić and Željo, “maintain” the Sarajevo tradition of making ćevapi. He says visitors should try pače, sogan dolma and spitroasted lamb at Kibe Mahala, which also offers the best view of Sarajevo. - As a butcher’s family, we were preparing kurban (lamb prepared for Eid) back in Gazi Husrev Bey’s day, but sometimes we like a change and then we go to Magarac for some fish specialties.

Dijete je Baščaršije, na kojoj je odrastao, gdje danas živi i radi. Najvećim znamenitostima Sarajeva smatra upravo Baščaršiju, koja je najljepša u rano jutro, te tradicionalnu bosansku kuhinju, u kojoj treba uživati „sa merakom“. - Obavezno treba posjetiti bosanske restorane sa historijom, koji imaju svoje priče i poseban šarm, poput aščinice Hadžibajrić, koja postoji preko 100 godina. Ističe i da su prave sarajevske atrakcije ovdašnje ćevabdžinice. - Mrkva, Kurto i Ferhatović su tri najstarije ćevabdžinice u Sarajevu, koje sa Hodžićem i Željom „drže“ sarajevsku tradiciju pravljenja ćevapa. Posjetiteljima Sarajeva preporučuje i da probaju pače, sogan dolmu i janjetinu sa ražnja u restoranu Kibe mahala, iz kojeg se, smatra, pruža najbolji pogled na grad. - Mi smo mesarska familija, koja je pripremala kurbane još u vrijeme Gazi-Husrev bega, ali nekad volimo napraviti promjenu i tada obično odemo na riblje specijalitete u restoran Magarac.

Nidal usually has his daily coffee at Pirat, Miris Dunja or somewhere on Slatko Ćoše, and he says that those who have a sweet tooth should go to Baklava dućan for ružica, baklava and the special džandar baklava. He is glad that the tradition of visiting Trebević is coming back, as the mountain has many attractions, as well as lovely nature. - Trebević is now home to Sunnyland and Pino Nature, and Brus has become an attractive spot again. Its greatest advantage is that it is close to town – you can get from Baščaršija to Trebević in about ten minutes. As for Sarajevo festivals, he enjoys the Balkan Photo Festival the most and would list Sarajevo Film Festival and MESS as top events. - My favorite theater is Kamerni Theater 55, with its fascinating local atmosphere and the intimacy between the actors and audience. Nidal says that the Academy of Fine Arts building is the prettiest building in town and he finds the sculptures and ornamental details on Austro-Hungarian buildings quite attractive. As for gifts that remind one of time spent in Sarajevo, he suggests the unique Sarajevo belenzuk (a type of bracelet) and copper coffee sets. Nidal ends our chat with the following: - Sarajevo has the kindness, generosity and soul that are hard to find today.

Sretan je što se vraća tradicija odlaska na Trebević, koji, pored predivne prirode, nudi i brojne druge sadržaje. - Trebević je izgradnjom objekata Sunnyland, Pino Nature i Brus opet postao atraktivan, a njegova velika prednost je blizina gradu, jer od Baščaršije do Trebevića se stiže za desetak minuta. Od sarajevskih festivala posebno mu je drag Balkan Photo Festival, a najboljim festivalima smatra Sarajevo Film Festival i MESS. - Najdraže pozorište mi je Kamerni teatar 55, koji fascinira domaćom atmosferom i tim osjećajem bliskosti između glumaca i publike. Najljepša zgrada za njega je Akademija likovnih umjetnosti, a posebno lijepim smatra skulpture i ornamente koji se nalaze na objektima iz austorugarskog perioda. Kao poklone za uspomenu na boravak u Sarajevu preporučuje unikatni sarajevski belenzuk i kazandžijske setove za kahvu, a naš razgovor zaključuje sa mišlju: - Sarajevo ima ljubaznost, merhamet i dušu, kakvi se danas rijetko gdje mogu naći.

Dino Merlin on Trg BiH Dino Merlin na Trgu BiH past 16 years, the City of Sarajevo has had a tradition eć 16 godina Grad Sarajevo održava živom tradiciju javnog Fthisorofyear’theorganizing an open-air event to ring in the New Year, and Vdočeka Nove godine na otvorenom u glavnom gradu BiH, a s lineup is more spectacular than ever. ove godine će taj događaj biti spektakularniji nego ikad prije. This year, Sarajevans and the city’s many visitors will be treated to a concert by the great Dino Merlin, which will be held at Trg BiH, in front of the National Parliament and BiH Council of Ministers Building in Marijin Dvor. As a songwriter and producer, Dino has been raising the standard on the regional music scene for decades and is one of the biggest stars in this part of the world. The New Year’s Eve event will begin at 9:00 p.m. and, before the famous Merlin and his band hit the stage at 11:00 p.m., there will be performances by the Sarajevo-Banja Luka DJ duo, After Affair; the young Jehan Džihan, a musician with Bosnian roots who has built a successful career in Great Britain and the sevdah band, Divanhana. Visitors are certainly anticipating quite a musical extravaganza, complete with a light and laser show, fireworks and many other surprises. The 2017 New Year’s Eve event is made possible with support from the City of Sarajevo and Sarajevo Canton and it is sure to make the city one of the most desirable New Year’s Eve tourist destinations in the region.

Posjetioce i u produkcijskom smislu očekuje istinski muzički spektakl, uz light i laser show, raskošni vatromet i brojna druga iznenađenja. ecember is a holiday-filled month, so there is sure to be plenty of good fun. On December 2 there will be a performance by the “German-French connection”, DJs Dr. Motte and Jean Marie K, at Cinemas Club, and the Norwegian Jazz musician, Per “The Bass Viking” Mathisen, is planning a concert for December 3 at Monument Club. If you love books, you can search for the perfect one at the Winter Book Fair, which will be held at Collegium Artisticum’s City Gallery (Dec. 9–24). Those who enjoy ballet on ice shouldn’t miss the performance of Swan Lake by the outstanding Saint Petersburg State Ballet (December 12) at Mirza Delibašić Hall. The Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, in cooperation with HKD Napredak, will be organizing a Christmas Concert (Dec. 21) and will also bid farewell to the “old year” during its New Year’s Eve Concert (Dec. 31). Amir Groove & Gustavo Cossetti will be performing at S-One Sky Bar on “the craziest night” and visitors can ring in the New Year with a performance by the tambura orchestra, Romansa, at the PAN Winter Pub, beneath its large tent at the Coca-Cola Sarajevo Holiday Market in Hastahana Park. Coca-Cola Sarajevo Holiday Market

his year’s Coca-Cola Sarajevo Holiday Market will be held in a new location – Hastahana Park in Marijin Dvor (Maršala Tita bb). Running from December 7, 2016 to January 14, 2017, the Market celebrates all of the season’s holidays and visitors will be able to buy unique and attractive holiday gifts, while also enjoying some refreshments. The PAN Winter Pub will again have the best atmosphere beneath its large tent. After Work Parties will be held every afternoon, with performances by the Sarajevo Holiday Duo, and at night there will be concerts, promotions, food tastings…. There will be daily outdoor shows on the BH Telecom Ultra Stage, featuring the DJ, Santa Sister, as well as other performers, animators, mascots…. Youngsters can visit the Argeta Junior Play House, where they can have a good time while learning useful things, as well as the fun park and the Coca-Cola Santa Claus Village, where visitors can look forward to some real magic. The Market’s newest attraction is the skating rink, which will be offering free skating for the duration of Sarajevo’s 39-day winter fairy tale-like event.

S-One Sky Bar

-One Sky Bar is located on the rooftop terrace of Courtyard by Marriott and offers a truly wonderful view of Sarajevo. The bar opened recently with the hotel as a “summer garden” and as the summer season came to an end the terrace was enclosed to provide a winter seating area. This allows guests to enjoy Sky Bar year round, with its wonderful ambience, wide range of drinks and cocktails and a great kitchen overseen by Chef Robert Vrgoč. Those who visit in winter can enjoy a view of the city under snow, along with some mulled wine and hot chocolate, and during summer it hosts the #AfterWorkRecharge Lounge. This event takes place every other Wednesday afternoon, when guests can enjoy some smooth music and relax in the sunny, stress-free outdoor oasis. S-One Sky Bar is also an evening venue for R&B parties, featuring DJs from local, regional and international scenes and, as the craziest night approaches, it is planning a spectacular New Year’s Eve party. The panoramic outdoor elevator takes visitors straight to the rooftop, making it easier for those who may not be hotel guests to reach the bar. S-One Sky Bar was recently added to The World’s Finest Clubs and has received an award for being one of the best rooftop bars in the world.

Igman-Malo Polje Mountain Lodge Planinarski dom “Igman - Malo polje”

he Igman-Malo Polje Mountain Lodge is located on Mount Igman’s Malo Polje, about 30 kilometers from the center of Sarajevo. At an elevation of 1,246 meters, the lodge is surrounded by conifers and the front terrace offers a wonderful view of Mount Bjelašnica’s peak. The lodge is run by the Friend of Nature (Prijatelj Prirode) Mountain-Sports Society, which was formed in 1953 by postal and telecommunications workers and they managed to build the lodge on Igman in 1955 by volunteering their own time. The lodge was totally destroyed during the last war, but was renovated by members of the society between 1998 and 2002. The lodge has a fireplace lounge, as well as six rooms (with a total of 50 beds) that are available for overnight stays throughout the year, except in January, when they are reserved for winter visits. Given that it is perfect for a quiet getaway and as a starting point for a mountain hike, the magazine, Start, named the Igman-Malo Polje Mountain Lodge the best lodge of this kind in BiH in 2007.

Na nadmorskoj je visini od 1.246 metara, okružen je četinari ma, a sa terase ispred objekta pruža se prekrasan pogled na vrh Bjelašnice. Domom upravlja Planinarsko - sportsko društvo (PSD) “Prijatelj prirode“, koje su 1953. formirali radnici preduzeća PTT iz Sarajeva. Oni su 1955. godine, kroz dobrovoljnu radnu akciju i izgradili planinarsku kuću na Igmanu. U posljednjem ratu dom je bio potpuno uništen, ali su ga članovi PSD “Prijatelj prirode“ obnovili između 1998. i 2002. godine. Dom ima kamin salu, 6 soba za spavanje sa ukupno 50 ležaja i otvoren je tokom cijele godine, osim u januaru, kada su u njemu organizovana zimovanja. Dom “Igman - Malo polje“ je magazin „Start“ 2007. godine proglasio najboljim bh. planinarskim objektom, idealnim za odmor i kao polazna tačka planinarskih pohoda.

Sarajevo is well connected with a network of trams, trolley-buses, buses and minibuses. The one-way ticket for an inner-city zone is 1.6 KM if you purchase it in a kiosk. However, if you purchase it with a driver, the one-way ticket costs 1.8 KM. The ticket must be punched as soon as you enter the vehicle. Failure to do so will result in a fine, on the spot. A bus line runs between the airport and Baščaršija and coincides with flight timetables. The public transport map is located on the inside of the front cover page of Sarajevo Navigator. Sarajevo has one of the cheapest taxi services in Europe. Several private taxi companies operate in the city 24 hours a day. For example, taking a taxi from Sarajevo Airport to the city centre will cost between 17 and 20 KM. Taxi stands are clearly marked and starting rate is 1,5 KM. All vehicles use the taxi meter. The driver will issue the receipt upon a request.

It is becoming more popular among Sarajevans and tourists to get around town by bike. While there are bike lanes in only a few parts of town, some shopping centers do have designated parking spots for bikes. Bicycles are available for rent at many locations during the summer, while the NextBike system is also at disposal. If you’d like to go biking outside of town or take an adventurous tour of the mountains, you can find a map of bicycle routes at www.mtb.ba.
