In this Q&A piece, we revisit a romantic wedding at St Nicolas Bay, Crete, where one of our Overseas Purchasing Executives, Asher, exchanged vows in September of 2015. Almost 8 years on from the big day, we asked Asher the all-important questions about saying ‘I do’ in a beautiful Grecian location.

What made you choose St. Nicolas Bay for your wedding?

I was lucky enough to visit the hotel for the first time during a work trip. As soon as I stepped foot into the grounds, I knew that was the venue for us – it was just so beautiful.

How long did it take to plan your wedding? Were the legalities easy to arrange?

We booked just over 12 months in advance to make sure we could have the date we’d decided on. The hotel wedding coordinator was so helpful in helping us choose the finer details and they even organised the legalities in Crete.

What was the best thing about getting married abroad?

The guarantee of nice weather makes such a difference, but the whole atmosphere is completely different. Everyone is so relaxed. We had precious quality time with family that had travelled from all over the world, so it was like one big holiday. I’ll never, ever forget it.

Where did your ceremony take place?

We got married on the deck of the beachside chapel with 55 of our closest friends and family watching – the setting was phenomenal, with incredible views out to the sea!

Tell us more about your special day – what is your favourite memory?

Walking down the aisle to see my husband-tobe stood alongside all of our closest friends and family in one beautiful place. A close second are the Greek dancers we organised for the evening. They got everyone up dancing!

Describe your Water Villa – what was the best thing about it?

It was so beautiful. What an experience! Our bathtub looked out over the ocean, and we just loved spending each evening watching the sunset from our terrace.

What was your favourite feature of the all inclusive offering?

I’ve seen so many people go for their honeymoon and I’ve heard so much about it from my friends. It’s the holiday of a lifetime, and the ultimate romantic destination.

Where was your favourite spot to unwind?

It has to be on the terrace of our Water Villa – pure bliss. Most nights dolphins would swim by!

What was the highlight of your honeymoon?

The whole holiday was utter paradise. From the sea plane journey to cycling around the island to go snorkelling everyday, our Water Villa and the spa experiences down to the service and the delicious food. It was a trip fresh off a postcard. Simply amazing!
