This building is comprised of a medical school connected by a skywalk to ab ambulator y surger y center , clinic spaces and office spaces for faculty and resident health care providers. Views are oriented to the creek and downtown. Daylight isn not able to penetrate the building’s core so flanking the 13-foot-wide concourse are light boxes programmed to circadian rhythms to mimic the natural rising and setting of the sun so that patients can have a sense of time in a well lit space. This unique healthcare facility is intended to be experienced as a hospitality center, with its variety of light and seating.

Throughout the building there are moments of limestone wall and wood ceiling which help to break away from the sterile views of healthcare design. There is a system of colors used as a communication tool throughout the entire project to help patients orient themselves when entering from a unique parking condition.

A combination of dark bronze metals, stone , stucco and glass make for comfortable yet modern home. The client was ver y pleased with the design. It features an outdoor shower, infinity pool, and outdoor kitchen. The main entrance is met with an a stair that is visible from the

This affordable home is in East Austin. The owner did not have a design direction, so there were several facade studies conducted to tr y to achieve a design that was unique, quirky, but still fit into the neighborhood context.

This is a historic African American church in East Austin. The original church had a few classrooms renovated, but the majority of the project focused on the new Family Life Center. This space, doubling the original footprint, hosts a basketball g ymnasium, several classrooms, offices and assembly spaces. An interesting feature is the traditionally-styled entr y tower. It was important to find the best strateg y for designing this feature with modern and efficient methods.

Downtown Durham, North Carolina is a historic area flanked with low-rising masonr y buildings. The design intention of the fitness center is to honor the character of the city while bringing something new and exciting. The articulated, angled roof-edge runs parallel to the street to draw in the surroundings while still being set back into the property. The main feature being the suspended running track over a swimming pool, which was chosen in place of a basketball court to integrate more differently-abled members of the community.

These pattern studies are two of several pieces that were created during a 5-week Art & Design studio in Ghana, West Africa. While obser ving various craftmakers (brasswork, glasswork, kente weaving, batik dying, and woodwork for coffins, adinkra stamps, and traditional masks), the students were asked to find a cultural motif and generate pattern studies. This was done by car ving rubber stamps and applying pattern variations in ink onto a variety of apertures.
