REVITALISATION IN EXTENDED GAMES

2019-2020

“REVITALISATION IN EXTENDED GAMES” Games are found in early human history and appear to be cultural universals. Types of games are randomly distributed in the world’s culture. Cross-cultural research has found that type of games varies in some very predictable ways–they are related to social and political complexity. Every game is related to respective culture and religion, among which some has grown to be very popular and some of them has lost their identity. The games that are lost from our busy scheduled life, needs to be revived as they are linked to our ancestors. In this research, I have studied about some of those games, that still rests in the heart of all the 90’s people, but have lost its identity in this growing world.

1.2 AIM: To revive old games and study of their spaces.

1.3 HYPOTHESIS; Similar sports can be played in same field depending upon there spaces

1.4 OBJECTIVE Importance of sports in our life To study about the benefits of sports To study about different old games and space requirements with their benefits

1.5 LIMITATIONS: Study will not include standards Tradition ancient games of India

Chapter 2- Games

2.1 - WHAT IS A GAME? In the German language a game is any activity which is executed only for pleasure and without conscious purpose. In this definition every activity that brings pleasure is a game. For example, people dance, play musical instruments, act in plays, and play with dolls and model trains. But in our sense these definitions are too wide, we define game more succinctly. Thus, I am writing about games which belong to the class that includes Chess, 9 Man's Morris, Checkers, Halma, Go, Parchisi, Monopoly, Scrabble, Skat, Rummy, Bridge, Memory, Jack Straws, Dominoes, and so on. Unfortunately, our language does not have a good term to

DEVANSHU YADAV, SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE, AGI

Page 4 | 42

REVITALISATION IN EXTENDED GAMES

2019-2020

call these games. Terms like table games, society games, tournament games are too narrow. In my opinion, the best term would be "rulegames" = "games with rules".

2.2 -WHY DO WE NEED TO PLAY GAMES INDOOR GAMES Indoor Indoor games are the games that you play inside the house. indoor games does not get interference of any kind of weather (e.g. Rain, Wind, etc.) you can play those games under hood. indoor games helps to develop your brain skills. Outdoor games are the games which are played outside the home, shelters.

Outdoor – Outdoor games are typically any game which must be played outside, or otherwise requires a large play area. Bad mitten, horseshoes, etc. are examples of outdoor games. ... Many outdoor games are considers to be sports and even have official competitions, such as Frisbee.

“Playing, as children mean playing is the most serious thing in the world”. 1- Games have always been a part of our lives since childhood. We all like to play games in our free time. One can say, we like to play games because they: 1. Relax mind

2. Reduce stress and 3. Source of entertainment for all of us. 4. Winning the game gives us a feel of achievement The motivation of playing games are closely linked to our general human motivations, so it may be one of the reasons that playing and winning a game makes us feel so good .

2 Games are a part of the lives of many animals. Wolves may play fight, for instance, as a social activity and one that keeps them spry. Octopuses play at moving things around, and that can help them hide when they need to, or manipulate objects better. For human beings, our evolutionary advantage has come from our intellect. Many games appeal to this in various ways. Chess is clearly strategic, for instance. Play is simulation… and there are some video games that are categorized as exactly that. What we do in life, we simulate in games, either realistically or completely abstractly as a means of focusing on a skill or concept. 3 Basic psychology. We NEED to. Well, we don't need to play games specifically, but we need to play and work so we feel accomplishment. I was taught "Maslow's hierarchy of needs" (no idea if that theory is out of date or not, but it makes sense to me). Basically once a person satisfies basic physical needs (food, shelter) , then they focus on emotional needs (friendship/love), and the level above that is self-esteem/recognition/achievement. 4 While most people will hold out the theory that we play for fun, that is for pleasurable enjoyment of one another’s company aided, assisted by the structured environment of the game and driven by the adrenaline of competition. Others might stress that we play games to assert dominance in a non-violent setting, to match wits with our opponents.

2.3- WHY DO WE NEED TO PLAY GAMES OUTDOORS GAMES

Playing sports help develop teamwork and leadership skills. Working toward a common goal helps children develop communication and problem-solving skills that will benefit them on the field and off. 3. ... Sports also help kids develop relationships, which become a support system for them. 1. It’s fun! It gives your child a group to belong to. They have a group of friends that has the same 2. goals and interests. 3. 2. Kids develop lifelong healthy lifestyle habits. 4. Regular physical activity improves a child’s fitness and helps them to stay in shape. 5. 3. It’s a natural stress reliever. 6. Exercise is a great way for kids to loosen up and let go. Sports also help kids develop relationships, which become a support system for them. 7. Playing sports help develop teamwork and leadership skills. 5. Sports boost self-esteem. 8. Children learn to be confident on the field. Seeing their hard work pay off brings about loads of self-confidence. When kids achieve their goals on the field it teaches them they can achieve any other goal they set later on down the track.

2.4.1-Importance of sports – The importance of sports in the life of a young student is invaluable and goes much further than the basic answer that it keeps kids off the streets." 0 It does in fact keep kids off the streets, but it also instills lessons that are essential in the life of a student athlete. 0 Sports play a pivotal role in the makeup of a young athlete, especially in the middle school to high school years where student athletes are much more mature and mentally developed.

2.4.2 -Importance in social life – Sports foster friendship and amity. o Nor does the belief hold well any more that those who take part in sports or games would be no good at studies, and that each year their absence from the class or shortage of lectures would be condone. because they can either attend to their studies or be on the playing field for some game or the other,

2.4.3-Importance for physical fitness – Recently it has been discovered that many pupils between the ages of twelve and sixteen and even over are not strong enough to do physical exercises. o They can't run for long distances and many of them can't swim. o Young people, who join the army, are often not fit enough and they can't serve in the army and fulfill their duty. So by plying sport u can fit for any situation

2.4.4 -Physical development – In our school we have got physical education lessons twice a week. o Boys and girls play volley -ball and basketball at the lessons. There is a sports ground near our school and we go in for sports in the open air. 0 A lot of different competitions are held at school; a great number of pupils take part in them. 0 All these events play an important role in our physical development.

3.1 – IMPORTANCE OF REVIVAL These games can also be of great benefit to them, they require physical activity, social skills, creativity, imagination, competition, camaraderie... and many more benefits that could fill an entire article. Quite simply, traditional children's games stimulate their growth, physically as well as intellectually. This is not necessarily something negative, but sometimes we will find that our children completely abandon traditional children's games that have so much to offer. As always, neither extreme is recommended, it’s great that children have fun with new technologies, but they should also find enjoyment with their parents and in the street, with their friends, playing classic games that have entertained so many previous generations. Children will always continue to enjoy games from the past, as long as they learn to play them. These games can also be of great benefit to them, they require physical activity, social skills, creativity, imagination, competition, camaraderie... and many more benefits. The best traditional games to show your children The main attraction of classic children's games is that generally, you will not need any equipment. Most of them do not require anything more than imagination and a willingness to have a good time. It is also important that most of these games are group games, which mean that as well as simple rules and a fast pace, they allow children to interact with each other, by talking, laughing and sharing experiences. All of these are essential to their growing up. Also, they are safe (apart from the occasional small fall or bump) and will not normally require adult supervision. This, by the way, helps children to interact more naturally and more fluidly. It is argued that the main reasons players are drawn to retrogames are nostalgia for different eras, the idea that older games are more innovative and original, and the simplicity of the games that requires less hours of gameplay.

I’m also offering ways to elevate the game – inspired by the Child’s Play NY classroom – to make it sophisticated and satisfying at any age. (Just please remember to always play safely and establish ground-rules that fit the space you are in and the age of kids with whom you are playing.) On the most profound level, humans – especially children – crave learning. And Hide and Seek is an astounding teacher. Watch these preschool children playing, and listen to our collaborator, Dr. Aliza Pressman, of Seedlings Group, weighing in on the benefits of this game. With some space inside the house, you can play this for hours. Players – 7-8 Area –

5.1-Impact of technology on games History of Video Games By definition, a video game is “an electronic game played by means of images on a video screen and often emphasizing fast action.1” With the invention of the "Cathode-Ray Tube Amusement Device” by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann2, the video game industry has been around since 1947. Since then, there have been many changes technologically, socially, and economically. The first video games were often associated with arcade games, a single or multi-player coinoperated entertainment machine usually installed in public businesses. The greatest initial success, and what history may call the actual start of the industry, came with Atari’s Pong, the first video game to reach mainstream publicity. Since then, people have tried copying Pong’s success and developing the next big sensation.

5.2 ADVANTAGES-

Page 28 |

REVITALISATION IN EXTENDED GAMES

2019-2020

5.2.1. Improves coordination Most of the games require players to watch the screen without even looking at the controller because they have to execute the required command in the game without even taking less than a second. This requires high-level hand-eye coordination. It is similar to learning piano because it requires a fluent movement of both hands and eyes. The player whether he is a gamer or a piano player should know when to press the next key. It can be, pressing the fire button to use the gun or the right key to create a great symphony. Handeye coordination is required in both hence gaming improves coordination.

5.2.2. Improves problem-solving skills There are many games, that have a simple mission to find something. But, the way to find something can be a door or a passage. And, to unlock that path you have to find a key or a solution to the situation or think about how to find another way to the destination point to save the game progress. This whole situation is a problem, and you as a gamer should know how to solve or find the solution to this puzzle. Thus, improving your problem-solving skills. Which may help you in your game but also help in your day to day life. It can be finding things that you forgot about, and even solving those math problems which have a solution to the question just hidden like a puzzle.

5.2.3. Enhances memory Playing your favorite video game may require both visual and audial memory. The player is required to read or listen to the instructions which might only be provided at the beginning of the game, thus the need to remember them throughout the entire game. Mastery of the keys on your keyboard helps you easily move your characters in the game. This helps improve your memory, whether short- term or long-term. This might sound interesting but do you remember any cheat codes of any game I remember mine it was L1, R1, L2, R2, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down, Right, up. This cheat code was from Grand theft Auto vice city for summoning weapons and if you can’t remember any then no problem and if yes then congratulations your memory has been enhanced thanks to the power of video gaming.

5.2.4. Improves attention and concentration Video games, especially action games have proven to be able to capture the player’s attention for the entire period of the game. This is brought about by the player’s need to achieve certain objectives within the game, and be able to progress to the next level. While playing, A player has to be aware of his health bar,” How much item left in the inventory?”. “Will it be enough?”, “Does he need to gain an adequate XP (experience) level before going to a boss battle?”, or during combat what a player should use to end the battle, without using many items from inventory with less damage. This may be helpful in things like creating own schedule or making your own homework planner with efficient results with less rebound.

5.2.5. It is a great source of learning There are many games with great storytelling and gameplay, which challenge you not to defeat every enemy but, using free will to make your own decision. There are some games, which don’t show the result of your decision at the same moment. But, The outcome of your decision is built around the ending of the game. This may be a good ending or bad, depending upon the choices and decisions you made throughout the game “Sound similar to something, doesn’t it? yes, it’s what parents always tell their kids about life. Things like: “make the right decisions.” “Do this right and it will make your future bright.” “Do something wrong and be ready for the outcome!” There is a saying, “you reap what you sow.” That is just ironic right in gaming and in real life. This means gaming can actually teach kids to fully understand the concept of learning from their mistakes.

5.2.6. Improves the brain’s speed While gaming, the brain receives multiple stimulations, both visual and audial. According to scientific research, individuals who play video games frequently can process these stimulants faster than others. These stimulators ensure that the brain is continuously working to interpret them. Games, where you have to react fast and make your decision to shoot, hide, jump, crouch, run, and so on. And all this, in a fraction of a second. That means to think of all this, you have to be quick. With regular gaming and practice, you will be able to analyze problems more efficiently with great concentration and problem-solving skills. Your thinking speed will be the fire to the fuel of becoming quick and patient at the same time. Just think about solving those math quizzes fast that’s what is talking about or just replying to a certain point while in a debate.

5.2.7. It enhances multitasking skills Have you ever thought when you are gaming, How many tasks you completed simultaneously? 

You keep an eye on your health bar.

You maintain your item to the optimum amount.

You check for any hidden objectives look for passage and if you meet an enemy then also fight the resistance these.

All these tasks that you are doing together at the same moment, without even losing your concentration show how much of a “multitasking person” gaming has made you. Multitasking in the game is a common thing and also in real life, it is normal to have yet difficult to master maintaining all tasks at hand will save your time and improve your work efficiency whether it’s in your workplace your school or even your daily routine.

5.2.8. Improves social skills When I was a kid, my mother told me,” go make some friends or you will be lonely.” My mom was right and I did make some friends but after I started playing games online. I met new people in those multiplayer games where you could chat with them using text or voice it was amazing! Now it was possible for me to talk to other players who were playing the same game, getting to know people from places I couldn’t even go to but now because of these games it was easy for me to communicate with others even made some new online friends from different countries helped me to understand how they think about my countries how their culture I like etc. This helps players meet new friends while also strengthening bonds with their old friends. Though computer games might be beneficial, there is needed to play them in moderation. It is also important to pick the right game as not all of them provide the same cognitive benefits. Age should also be a factor. Small children should not be exposed to violent games.

5.3 DISADVANTAGE

5.3.1. Behavioral and mental changes Players who spend hours on gaming without any rest may become violent, introvert; lose interest in the environment and their surroundings, this may happen with every single person who plays video games at some point. A person may become violent if others will tell him to stop or use force to tell the person to leave his video games and to have a daily routine like dinner or even family gatherings. The person may start to feel insecure to go outside because he can’t leave his gaming behind this will lead to an underdeveloped personality because the person never likes to talk to other people and socialize.

5.3.2. Lack of other hobbies and poor academic performance While the video game is also a hobby, over spending time on them will deprive the person of learning new things and may affect his personal life also, more importantly, his other important things in life studies his other interests besides gaming. This may result in making the person more of an animal than a human being because he will only think about his basic needs that will be eating sleeping gaming and then gaming again without even thinking how much his life is being affected negatively.

5.3.3. Lethargic nature, which will also lead to weight gain Too much screen time translates into laziness and may cause weight gain. Have you ever thought about why we eat more without knowing whenever we eat while watching TV? Because here our animal instincts work because we are being entertained and properly fed at the same time. But, in this case, person gaming mostly eats junk food that may be unhealthy. And also the reason for those weight gain and another reason remember whenever you eat a whole pizza yeah some of you can’t imagine that but some are doing right now so for them who do this will also know they will only want to do one thing sleep. Gaming and junk food is a bad combination perhaps a result of lethargic nature in people due to gaming and bad meal choices are the main cause

5.3.4. Gaming as a career but not as a sport We know at present a professional gamer can earn money just from those gaming tournaments like EVO TOURNAMENT and The International (annual DOTA 2 championship) which is famous for its biggest prize pool(according to the information provided
