Workforce Training Opportunities Abound

The Boise-Nampa MSA is home to fifteen institutions of higher education. The City of Nampa works closely with the College of Western Idaho, the nation’s fastest growing community college, to meet the workforce needs of our employers. The college features a 176,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art professional technical education facility located in Nampa. The workforce Development Training Fund - WDTF - manged by the Idaho Department of Labor, can reimburse employee training costs to eligible companies that are bringing jobs to Idaho, adding jobs through expansion and/or retraining existing workers with skills necessary for specific economic opportunities and industrial expansion initiatives; to provide innovative training solutions to meet industry specific workforce needs or local workforce challenges. In addition, eligible employers can be reimbursed for up to 50% of training costs for hiring and training an eligible worker - often someone new to the labor force or upgrading skills after a layoff for a fulltime, non-seasonal job at minimum wage. Employers may also benefit from the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. This is a federal income tax credit of up to $9,600 per employee. This credit encourages employers to hire job seekers who meet the qualifications for specific targeted groups. The credit is designed to help job seekers most in need of employment gain job experience and move toward economic self-sufficiency. COMMITTED CITY FUNDS The City of Nampa has recently dedicated funds for local business incentives to match those offered by the State for qualifying investment and job creation. PROPERTY TAX ABATEMENT Businesses that invest in new manufacturing facilities may receive partial or full property tax exemptions from county commissioners. To qualify, businesses need to invest a minimum of $3 million.

LARGE BUSINESS PROPERTY TAX CAP Businesses that invest a minimum of $1 billion in capital improvements will receive a property tax exemption on all property in excess of $400 million in value per year. LARGE EMPLOYER PROPERTY TAX CAP Businesses that employ at least 1,500 people within an Idaho county may receive a property tax exemption on property values in excess of $800 million. To qualify, the business must make a yearly capital investment of at least $25 million within that county. 100% PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION Business inventory and registered motor vehicles, vessels and aircraft are exempt from property tax. TAX REIMBURSEMENT INCENTIVE (TRI) 1-30% tax credit for 1-15 years on corporate, sales, & withholding taxes for companies that bring expansion or relocation projects to Idaho with a minimum of 50 jobs and wages above average income of $31,388 in Nampa. RESEARCH INCOME TAX CREDIT Businesses conducting basic and qualified research may earn an income tax credit of 5% that may be carried forward up to 14 years. IDAHO BUSINESS ADVANTAGE (for qualifying companies) • Enhanced Investment Tax Credit to 3.75% against the corporate income tax for the personal prop-

From the Pacific Northwest to Southern California and throughout the Rocky Mountain region, Nampa is accessible by overnight truck delivery. Strategically located along Interstate 84, U.S. Highways 20, 26, 30, and 95, the area boasts excellent transportation corridors in all four directions. Nampa is also well-positioned within the Boise-Nampa metro area. Located at the heart of the valley, the amenities of neighboring communities are only minutes away. HIGHWAY SYSTEM I-84 is the major interstate serving the Boise-Nampa Metropolitan area, with I-84 branching toward the northeast into downtown Boise. RAIL SERVICE Idaho Northern & Pacific Railroad (INPR) provides freight service over four former Union Pacific (UP) branch lines in Southwestern Idaho and Northeastern Oregon. INPR leases and operates from a connection with UP in Nampa to the Hillcrest switching station near the Boise Airport. Union Pacific has a major presence in Nampa, offering access to their national system. The Oregon Division runs from a UP connection at LaGrande to Elgin, OR, and the Idaho Division runs from a UP connection at Payette to Cascade, ID. Here’s a snapshot: Our park system is made up of open space, sports fields, a large recreation center, playgrounds, seasonal swimming pools, beautiful gardens, walking trails, and picnic facilities. The city owns a 140,000 square foot recreation facility that includes fitness, rock climbing, racquetball, basketball, swimming pools, recreational programs, education opportunities, and a senior center. With miles of existing pathways and proposed future pathways, the enjoyment of running, walking and in-line skating or biking is endless. Only a few miles from the Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge and Lake Lowell, Nampa boasts tremendous recreation opportunities, with swimming, boating, fishing and bird watching, or take a tour along the Sunny Slope Wine Trail. Nampa is home to one of the top 10 regular season professional rodeos in the nation, the Snake River Stampede Rodeo. With bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping, and ladies’ barrel racing, plus mutton busting for the kids, this show brings in virtually all of the world champions at one time or another. The Ford Idaho Center is one of the most versatile and accessible facilities of its kind in the West, with an amphitheater, arena, horse park and sports center. The Ford Idaho Center fans have enjoyed concerts from some of the top name performers on tour including Tim McGraw, Bob Dylan, Journey, Van’s Warped Tour, Aerosmith, Sublime and more. In addition, its horse park hosts thousands of horses in events and the sports center plays host to numerous top ranked collegiate meets and athletic championships, one being the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships. About 15 miles south of town, the Snake River winds through a dramatic desert canyon, its rocks painted with petroglyphs dating back 10,000 years. About 30 miles to the north is the Boise Front, with Bogus Basin Mountain ski resort, vast public land, water activities (kayaking, whitewater rafting, and relaxing on the Boise River), and amazing sightseeing. The area offers hunting, biking, golf, and camping. If sports is more to your liking, take in a Boise State football game; a Boise Hawks baseball game; a little hockey with the Idaho Steelheads, or join the Idaho Stampede for some basketball.
