01 KODAK PROJECT
an insight into my final project of my master’s in landscape architecture at planning stage. looking at the kodak development, a mixed-use development scheme based in harrow, north-west london.
The Kodak site is 57 acres in area and it is located on the north west fringe of London, UK, at the geographical centre of the London borough Harrow. In 1890, Kodak company acquired a seven acre plot of farmland, creating the company’s first British factory, giving it its sense of historical heritage. The existing Kodak site is industrial in character, and has some harrow weald
striking structures such as the chimney and the cluster of tall buildings which are well identifiable from many parts of the surrounding area. The chimney is a local landmark and has been representative of Kodak’s presence in the local area.

This project provided opportunities to explore parts of Leeds City undergoing intensive regeneration and develop design solutions from a human perspective. As professional planners and designers, it is our responsibility to deliver to society human lives in places that are fulfilled and not just eye-catching design. This project focuses on the social and experiential dimensions of urban open spaces and using this methodology through sensory experiences to bring about a better design ethos. Particularly in this respect are edge environments that c a n b e d e s c r i b e d a s ‘ Tr a n s i t i o n a l Edges’ that form the interface between built form and adjacent public realm. It explores the importance of this edge and how it can drastically affect design. Working in groups, we came up with a design solution to inject vivacity and a unique place where both residents and visitors can use the public realm. the design concept aims to create a dynamic

Parkwood Springs is a vast green space resource that is closely located to the Sheffield City centre. The site is framed by an extensive network of roads surrounding the area. Circulation is a key issue that divides the park into fragments, instead of acting as a cohesive green space resource. It is isolated from local green spaces as well as surrounding sports and educational facilities. It is one of the most deprived areas of Sheffield, which is reflected by its poor perception and treatment. Residential areas near the site are linked with social problems that filter through some of the abandoned areas of the park. The planning proposal illustrates a series of strategies that aim to improve the perception, circulation and use of the site.

PARKWOOD TRAILS As well as providing access to the surrounding area, the trails provide unique interactive and educational experiences within the space. The different coloured trails will each serve a different type of activity and use that all links to the primary route through the park.

The trails and routes have been designed to offer direct access to the facilities on site as well as aiding access to neighbouring facilities, providing wider beneficiaries of income generators.
SPATIAL ECOLOGICAL
GREEN SPACE NETWORK
Existing ecological communities will be enhanced through regular maintenance schemes to ensure pathways remain legible as well as aiding the development of their health.
Parkwood Springs is not a space that exists in isolation. Part of the strategy will be to assert a good connection between the surrounding green spaces and Parkwood Springs.
New ecological communities will be integrated as part of Parkwood Springs to help sustain existing h a b i t a t s a n d i n c r e a s i n g b i o d i v e r s i t y.
This will take form in the shape of increasing vegetation across the existing circulation paths through street trees.

2 - 5 YEARS
The short term aim for Parkwood Springs is to improve the perception of the site and to generate income for future development.
The revival of the ski slopes is the next step to encouraging interest. Using funding from the rented ecobusinesses and pop up a c t i v i t y, t h e s p o r t s h u b w i l l be built, along with the ski slopes.
Short term rental of future wetlands area and southern part of the park to ecobusinesses/ start ups for temporary pop up activities. This will generate income and interest to the area.
To t h e n o r t h e r n p a r t o f t h e site, the allotments will be converted into smaller spaces to allow urban farming and a sustainable way of producing resources for the newly implemented cafe.
5 - 1 0 YEARS Enhancing existing sports facilities such as extension of bike trail will start to improve and carve the identity of the site. Intriguing more interest to local users. Establishing a new one way road through the outdoor sports village will ensure better connectivity to the site.
1 0 - 1 5 YEARS The new connection from the north to south will implemented. The area for short term rental will be cleared for the landscaping of the new riparian woodlands. New marked and formalised trails will be established to finalise the connections in Parkwood Springs park.

1 5 + YEARS The final stages of the phasing will involve connections to the external green spaces as well as schools and existing sports facilities. By this point, the mixture of income generators on site will continue the self sustaining of Parkwood Springs.
PLACEMENT YEAR
04 PLACEMENT YEAR KINGS CROS S, LONDON, UK D u r i n g m y p l a c e m e n t y e a r, I h a d t h e opportunity to work on the exciting development and regeneration of Kings Cross Central. I developed my skills working at masterplanning and detail level, where I was able to understand how all the different projects collaborated together to create the cohesive masterplan. It was on this project where I also was exposed to seeing creative processes come together to create fulfilled urban places where users were able to envelop and thrive in unique spaces, rather than just passing through.

04 PLACEMENT YEAR ROOF TERRACES, UK For a number of roof terraces, planting plans were created using a digital program called Keyscape. Each terrace had its own distinctive planting palette that was adopted to create a diverse range of visual and seasonal interest. These plans were helpful in understanding how varying plants can be grouped and mixed to create a unique design in order to enhance a place within an urban setting.

05 CASTLEGATE The concept for Castlegate revolves around the union of the River Don and the River Sheaf. The strong geometric forms designed have been created to unify the marriage of the space between the built surfaces a n d w a t e r, d r a w i n g t h e v i s i t o r towards the fusion of the rivers, which is the focal point of the design ethos. The design aims to celebrate the merging of two contrasting forms of the built environment and water as well as the coming together of people (from the HS2, the city centre, hotels and business districts) towards the historical hub of what was once the city centre, using the green infrastructure as a compass towards the confluence. The central idea pushes the need for this type of setting in the city centre as it is a distinctive local character of the confluence of two pivotal rivers that circulate throughout the c i t y. T h e d o m i n a n t r i v e r s s h o u l d b e celebrated instead of being hidden.
