CHALLENGE To create a health club to accommodate the Southwest Medical center community, the surrounding neighborhood, and adjacent areas.

CONCEPT Leading conceptual ideas arose from an interactive model with proportions matching the Fibonacci series. The variations in the ribbing and lighting effects spawned the concept of rhythm expressed through interior natural light. By introducing a curved main axis for the interior, users will experience a visually rhythmic interior that guides them through spaces. The contrasting areas flooded with light and more subtle diffused lit areas act as wayfinding. Diffused light is expressed through a custom paneling system. Neutral color scheme with bold accents are complimented by timeless modern furnishings.

MATE R I A L F I N I S H E S

LUBBOCK, TEXAS

CHALLENGE Estacado high school was not functional and posed issues of fire safety, accessibility, asbestos and overall lack of stimulating atmosphere. The school was in transition from a traditional high school into a college preparation school. The new design for the school needed to match the vibrant and positive attitude of the the staff and students.

CONCEPT

The teachers’ lounge needs to be a relaxing getaway for teachers to feel as if they are in a spa atmosphere. Some inspiration for the teachers’ lounge was drawn from wood paneling common in saunas. The main offices, class rooms, and computer labs are taken back to the school’s historical roots with a geometric inspired modern design to stimulate students and staff to be energized and excited to explore the college ready campus.

EXECUTIVE OFFICE

CHALLENGE To provide the Deans office at Texas Tech University Law School with a high end design that blends traditional and contemporary styles.

CONCEPT The conceptual idea for Texas Tech Law School Dean’s Office was to stay true to the traditional and formal nature of a law environment but to add contemporary elements through high end furnishings and pops of color.

C L A S S I F I C AT I O N :

Sophomore: Computer Aided Drafting This Course focused on using AutoCAD and creating a full set of construction documents. In addition, this course included using Photoshop for rendering purposes.

CONCEPT The concept was based on a piece of art work. I chose Matisse’s ‘Irai á ce j’ai voulu, sans fierté come sans remrds. This art piece was used to guide the design aesthetic playing off its quircky nature and exaggerated lines.

Sophomore: Interiors II Residential Studio Interiors II was a historical residential studio class. All projects included research of different interior styles such as cape cod, bungalow, and mid-century. This course focused on further development of hand drafting and rendering skills.

To renovate a Californian mid-century ranch house to be more functional for two parents who’s children have left the home. The house needed to be flexible to accommodate the couple as they age. It was necessary to keep the mid–century style but with a contemporary layout.

This project is a two level multi-purpose building that needed to include a jewelry studio on the lower level and a family residence on the second level. The design had to accommodate a member of the family who has multiple sclerosis and sometimes uses a wheel chair. Designing for someone with this condition requires attention to design elements and space planning to ensure functionality and comfortability for all members of the family.
