Mayor’s Message Welcome to our Spring 2017 program of events. With the cooler months behind us, now is the time to get out and about and experience some of the exciting events happening in Devonport over the next few months. With so much to choose from, this handy guide will make planning to fit everything in that much easier. Learn new things, have new experiences, or sample some of what we already do so well – food and wine! It’s time to shake off Winter, get outside and get involved! Arvos @ the Junction Arvos at the Junction is held every Tuesday of the school term with food provided and a range of different activities each week such as workshops, art, games and cooking for young people aged between 10 to 18 years of age to participate in and have a safe space to relax after the school day. Dream Big - Primary Schools Exhibition Now in its third year, the Dream Big exhibition is a celebration of children’s dreams for the future. The University of Tasmania and The Advocate Newspaper invite children from our local primary schools to draw a picture of what they want to be when they grow up. The students from Nixon Street Primary will display their entries in the Rooke Street Health Centre windows during the Festival.

Exhibition Opening Troy Ruffels Solo Commission: Between Fire and Flood Local artist Troy Ruffels is the recipient of the 2017 Solo Commission. A temporary exhibition on Deal Island, the largest island of the Kent Group in Bass Strait and home of the highest lighthouse in Australia. The display features one of the journals of Trautie Reynolds, who during her time with the Deal Island Caretaker Program, documented and illustrated the flora and fauna of the remote island.

Angela Casey: The Black Suite Set in the Little Gallery Project Space, these photographic works explore experiences of hedonism, nihilism and the nature of time and waiting. Notions of afterlife also weigh into the mix.
