Kirtan - invocation & prayers Glorification of the Holy Names of God.
Madhuparka - Father receives the groom
The father offers the groom respects and items used in the worship, and request the groom to begin the ceremony.
Sampradanam - giving the bride to the groom
The bride is escorted into the arena by her friends who cover her from the view of the groom. Now the father verbally accepts the groom as the husband of his daughter and turns her hand over to him.
Abhisecana - Family Blessings Are Given
Symbolic bathing of the bride and grooms with their names on leaf. The fathers and mothers sprinkles the couple with a leaf that has been inscribed with their names, thus further giving their joint blessings on the union.
Vastra Paridhapana - exchanging of new cloth
This exchange of cloth is symbolic of the bride and groom covering or wrapping themselves, if you will, in each other.
Sindhura Dana - placing mark of married woman
In Vedic culture, the woman is identified as married by this mark on her forehead.
Mangala Sutra - exchanging rings
Mangala means auspicious and at this time rings and necklaces are exchanged showing the external bond.
Sapta Padi Gamana - The seven sacred steps
The groom leads the bride in the seven steps into seven circles while taking seven vows. In Vedic culture seven is a highly auspicious number.
Amsa Kramana - mounting the stone
As a stone is very strong and solid so the mother of the groom places the daughter in law’s foot on a stone and prayers are offered seeking a union solid as a stone.
Druva Darsanam - vows for steadiness and chastity
The great sage Dhruva lives on the pole star. The whole universe pivots on this star. Therefore sighting this star they commit to each other with the same steadiness.
Pani Grahanan - taking the brides hand
Holding the bride’s hand the groom offers prayers for their long life with each other.

Agni Homa - offerings into the sacred fire
The fire represents both Agni and Visnu. Offerings of grains given into the fire are a means of confirming ones vow. The fire is used in all Vedic ceremonies and vows.
Bhojana Seva - honoring of special sweets
Accepting sweets and sanctified foods the husband and wife exchange this food binding each other’s heart.
Ashirvad - receiving blessings from the elders
Now the husband and wife take blessings from the two sets of parents and other elders seeking benedictions for a long and happy life.
