After spending twenty five years reading through available data and trying various supplements and beauty products, I have come to discover the joy of natural ingredients that are healthy for me as well as make me feel and look great. I’m a 45 year old woman and I look to be in my mid 30’s. I’ve always been an adamant believer, in that everything in life happens for a reason and always comes full circle. You can choose to broaden or lessen the circumference of that circle. Most of us have heard the saying, you are born dying, and this is true, is it not? We are all born from our mother’s womb and each and every one of us will die. From the very breath we take, to that which we consume and how we manage our thoughts, stress and the quality and quantity of exercise we get determines how well we age. Although I personally have not seen proof of this, I believe it to be true as well. We can unknowingly pass on degenerative disorders to our children. Damaged cellular structures that are left untreated become a part of the new born child that we bring out into this world. I also believe that the thoughts that we focus on while a child is in our womb, (yes, this part just pertains to the ladies) will also be passed onto our innocent baby. Creating new habits such as walking more, sleeping better, managing stress and choosing nourishment as the food we intake over things that are nothing more than hazardous stomach filler, are extremely important. Scientific research talks about oxidative stress (cells damaged by free radicals). This stress of the cells that make up our bodies is known to accelerate aging. Metabolic wear and tear contributes to hundreds of conditions which will negatively affect our health. The healthier we are the better we look and feel. Taking the right supplements and doing what is best for our bodies can turn back the clock adding quality years to our lives. The human body is a complex, self contained system. Some organs produce new cells others use cells to perform their individual functions. There are also scavenger cells that are produced in order to remove dead cells from our bodies. These house keepers are specialized white blood cells called macrophages. Microphages remove dead cells and pathogens, which helps to explain the Greek meaning of the word as Big Eater. I’m not a doctor and my scientific experience only comes from my own curiosity. There is a myriad of information out there on this subject. Research this to your minds content. Until then here is a little more information on this subject: A macrophage cell can detect dead cells through a sense of smell much like scavengers detect the presence of decay in other animals. Whenever dead cells reach the part of the bloodstream protected by a macrophage, the macrophages surround them and convert them into easily removed components. At the same time, the macrophage covers the dead cells with a substance known as an antigen. This action tags the cells for further attack from other types of cells in the body's immune system. Ideally, the macrophages and killer T-cells should render both dead cells and foreign invaders harmless enough to re-enter the bloodstream for elimination.
However when macrophages become overwhelmed, they may allow some dead cells to pass through unprocessed. The DNA from those cells may trigger an inflammatory reaction as the dead cells combine with other substances. This process is the basis for many autoimmune diseases such as Crohn's disease or lupus. Bolstering the body's macrophages is often a course of treatment recommended for autoimmune diseases and even some forms of cancer. When external skin cells die, there are a number of mechanical and chemical methods used to slough them off. Exfoliant creams and scrub brushes are often employed to remove the dead cells and encourage new cell turnover. However, dead cells within the human body are not so easily removed. They go through a much more complicated elimination process, which is not always as efficient or thorough. Living cells become dead cells through two different processes. Many cells are programmed to die at a predetermined time, through a process called apoptosis. Red blood cells, for example, are programmed to die after 120 days of service. Other cells, such as white blood cells, may be programmed to die an apoptotic death after only a few days. These dead cells may continue to flow through the body's bloodstream or collect in various organs, but they are clearly no longer contributing to the system. Another process for creating dead cells is called necrosis. Necrotic cell death often occurs after a trauma, infection or other shock to the delicate body encapsulated system. When cells become necrotic, they may be removed through surgery or other medical intervention, but often they enter the bloodstream in the same way as atopic cells. The body cannot function well with an overabundance of dead cells, so macrophages take on the mission of breaking down the excess. Oxidative stress often occurs as a side effect of normal human functioning. When cells in the human body use oxygen to make energy, they can create reactive molecules known as free radicals. These molecules are unstable because they lack a very important electron. Inside the body, they can potentially react with almost any other molecule. Oxidative stress is the cell damage associated with the chemical reaction between free radicals and other molecules in the body. The cell damage caused by oxidative stress is believed to be behind a number of illnesses, such as cancer or autoimmune disease. The body generally uses nutrients known as antioxidants to control cellular stress. Antioxidants are believed to boost immunity, as well as preventing cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and macular degeneration. Antioxidants may even help to slow the signs of aging and progression of Alzheimer's disease. Oxidative stress usually occurs when there are more free radicals than antioxidants in the body. When free radical and antioxidant levels are imbalanced, free radicals are left to bond chemically with the cells of the body. Free radicals are so unstable and they will negatively affect almost any other type of molecule. They are believed capable of significant damage to cells and proteins in the body. Free radicals may be responsible for damaging a cell's DNA so that the cell mutates and reproduces out of control, forming a cancer. Some amount of oxidative stress is almost always an inevitable result of aging. Other factors that can contribute to oxidative cellular stress include; cigarette smoking, pollution, exposure to excess sunlight, and poor nutrition. Doctors believe that cellular stress can be largely controlled by avoiding cigarettes, using UV protection, and eating a diet high in antioxidants.
Antioxidants are nutrients that generally act to cleanse the body of free radicals by giving up an electron. When a free radical molecule takes an electron from an antioxidant molecule, the free radical stabilizes. Once stabilized, the free radical can no longer cause damage. Aging may be inevitable, but the rate of aging is not. Why and how our body ages is still largely a mystery, although we are learning more and more each year. Scientists do maintain, however, that chronological age has little bearing on biological age. There are theories that hold the idea that damages to our DNA caused through a variety of factors, could speed up the aging process in the originating individual as well as be passed along to future generations. Let’s begin to look into the things that can be done to assist our body’s healing process. The body on its own is such an amazing mechanism programmed to try and heal itself at all costs. Something to keep in mind is that if we accelerate the healing process within ourselves, we may also be accelerating the growth of invading cells that can cause serious negative and irreversible health conditions let alone accelerate the growth of tumors that may or may not be inoperable. What is required sounds simple, but can be quite difficult. It’s easy to balance something you can see, but how do you balance what is going on inside your body? For me it was a matter of trial and error. Too much or too little of a good thing will not help you in the long run. I began to listen to my body. Paying attention to my aches, pains, wrinkles, thin skin, spots and bumps, hair falling out, sleeplessness, whatever it was. Now, I always pay attention and take note of what my body is trying to tell me instead of masking it somehow. Powerful Joint Relief May 30, 2011 From Texas I have had carpal tunnel since I was young, injury due to learning to play quicker than my hands had been trained to go. I'm in my 40's now and was trying this product for a different reason. I found that the day after I took my first pill I had no trouble with my hands at ALL! Not even a twinge! I was able to play piano fluidly even without a chance to warm my hands up. So now, when I know I have to play piano, I take one the night before. I also noticed my knees (which can give me trouble from time to time) feel great going up and down stairs and doing rigorous exercises like Tae-Bo and Zumba after taking one pill the night before! These results have been a God-send considering I bought the product for my SKIN! LOL I'd highly recommend these if you have any joint or carpal tunnel issues! I will be buying this product again!!

I used to take hyaluronic acid (HA) for my joints, skin and intestinal function, now I take N-A-G instead. N-A-G is the precursor to hyaluronic acid, which is part of the synovial fluid that lubricates joints. It also keeps things moving smoothly though our bodies. I’ve found that in using a substance that is a component of the formation (precursor) of a certain product, the effect is greater. MAke sure you take this if you care at all about oxidation in your body. Many antioxidants are very useful, and target different free-radicals, in different parts of the body. However nothing, even arguably ALA, can come close to the effects of NAC! Nac's action on the human system is global, and it has hundreds of receptors for free-radicals once converted to Glutathione. Five stars July 30, 2011 From Spain For anyone over 45, this is a must-have. The dosage of lutein (10mg) and zeaxanthin (2mg) are perfectly in sync with the American Optometric Association's 2011 recommendations. The Alpha-Carotene content is in response to recent clinical discoveries (research it on Google). It's terrific that Jarrow dosed the overall Vit A at 52% Daily Value, since we're getting the other 48% (and then some) in our regular diet (fresh spinach, carrots, pumpkin, mangoes, etc.) However, I'm disappointed that Jarrow provides us a meager half milligram of astaxanthin whereas other specialists go with 8mg a day.

It was amazing stuff, rich in many of the generally unacknowleged pigments in algae; many nutritious colors. These are the sunscreen of plants that protect them from UV rays etc. and in doing so, build carotenoids that also protect our immune systems. I always looked tan! I was very sick for years until I took lots of phycotene. Christopher is no longer with us, sadly, and those who bought his company, double sadly, no longer make phycotene. I was bereft. It had returned to me my life. However I have discovered what might be a second best-a formula that does deliver some of what phyotene had. There are many more immune enhancing pigments other than beta carotene and this product has a few of them. It does not have the wondrous blue pigment from algae that made phycotene a miracle: phycocyanin. But it does have several other useful pigments: lutein, Astaxanthin, Lycopene, Beta Carotene. After a couple of weeks of taking 3 capsules a day, most of my allergy symptoms either disappeared or diminished. If your allergies are only mild then I would definitely try these in stead of using medicines! Not just for hair December 22, 2010 From Florida This product was recommended to me by a friend who does extensive research on products before trying them. The suggestion that it helps the body absorb calcium was my interest. I felt less aches in joints within days after taking it. Unfortunately, the person I went to was not very competent and I lost a lot of my hair, which was down to my waist. It's magic! November 13, 2008 By Robert Park From Great Britain My 96 year old friend Meg who is fit and lives by herself and is quite capable of managing all her domestic affairs started suffering from shoulder pain when in bed which disturbed her sleep. Her GP administered steroids which made her feel worse and only slightly mediated the shoulder pain. The medication started to destroy her finger nails (and what else that was unseen like her bones). On complaining about this the GP adminstered another drug to modify those side-effects but which itself possessed further serious side-effects! Guess who will write the death certificate if the treatment administered brought about Meg's demise? On my advice, she ceased taking the GP's prescription and started taking Q10 at 300 mgs daily in the morning. It gave her a eureka effect, stopped the shoulder pain, helped her to sleep more deeply and refreshingly, and perked-up her energy! She continues to be elated at feeling so good! Her nails since are showing signs of regrowth. All those in contact with her have noticed this remarkable change to her as she is now optimistic and buoyant and pain free! Truly, it's magic! 09/07/2010 As a sequel to the above; Meg's health has been fully restored and in a few days it will be her 98th birthday. She is fit, active, and bright as the button on a Warrant Officer's tunic. To those who have not felt any benefit from Q10 supplementation, it could be that their bodies do not require it; the young would not require it unless ill, but, alternatively, it could be that their dosage is insufficient. It is worth experimenting with the dosage level. This substance appears a benign and seems neither toxic nor addictive. I have been taking it for 20 years. I started taking it at 90 mgs daily after having had a quadruple by-pass in 1990 and have been off medication since and now reaching my 80th birthday I am in excellent fettle with no aches nor pains and still retain my libido. I would suggest that it is an excellent substance for those who have passed middle age or who suffer from an illness.

Q10 review February 21, 2010 From New Zealand The purpose for purchasing this product was to find out if the claims were true - that it does lower blood pressure. I have normal blood pressure, but my 84 year old mother has high blood pressure. We are both taking 200mgs per day (for me, a temporary test). I lowered my blood pressure (consistently) to 106 over 68 considerably lower than what is normal for me which proved it works. My mothers blood pressure is lowering and doesn't seem to be having any side-affects with Q10 on top of Metaprolol and Cilazapril. She averaged one angina attack per week previously and since taking Q10 has had one attack in 6 weeks. It is still early days, but our intention is to be able to reduce, or ideally, take her off one or both of the prescription drugs she is on. At this point I rate this product highly, but it is only 6 weeks and I am ever watchful of changes in her. May I suggest that iherb email me in 3 months for an update.

This is one of those products that when you take it, how are you supposed to know if it is helping you or not? It’s another great antioxidant and protects your cells from oxidation. It’s low cost has kept it in my diet. In conclusion: Please do what is right for you. Of course if you drink and smoke cigarettes it will have negative effects on the way that your body functions as well as how it looks. I’m a wine drinker and when I have a few glasses I notice that my skin is a little dryer the next day. It also seems to interfere with my sleep. However, I love red wine and truly believe that it aids in keeping me sane. I mean this as a joke; hopefully you at least grinned and understand what I mean. I’ve never been a cigarette smoker as I’ve had enough health issues without adding more. If you smoke, I mean no disrespect, but you truly must realize what you are doing to your body.
