Surreal Walk Through by De Wet Erasmus

My concept: I created this image using a huge range of concepts and images that I have stumbled upon in the past and got glued into my imagination. In this image I am illustrating a desolate world where mankind is inferior and ruled by the TELEVISION. I used myself in the image as the sole survivor of the human race and evading the TV through of self-disintegration! So many distractions in life that blind us from the things that really matter …blah blah blah!!! (Don’t laugh, I only came up with the concept after I created the image.)

How I created this image: Here are my photos I used for this montage…

Step 1:

Blend the sky and the landscape together. I also enlarged the observatory slightly with the Transform tool. Step 2:

Using the pen tool cut the TV and place it in the foreground.

Step 3:

I made multiple layers of the television and scattered them across the landscape. The further away the TV is the foreground the Gausian blur I used to blend it into the landscape. Then use whatever method you are used to to create the shadows underneath the TV sets just make the montage more aesthetically pleasing. Step 4:

Using the pen tool again, I cut out the hands and used the Transform tool to warp and scale them into place and mask them to make blend

Step 5:

Pen tool again to cut myself out and by using the Freehand lasso tool I created this disintegration effect by making very small selections and Ctrl-moving each peace out of place.

Step 6:

By making feathered polygonal selections from the observatory and onto me and adding levels adjustment layers, I created the light beam effect.

Step 7:

Add the image I created into the main television screen. Step 8:

Select the main TV screen with the image that has just been added. Desaturate and add noise. Select the other televisions screens and darken them so the hands will pop out more.

Step 9:

http://www.dewetphoto.com I then added some colours with different blending modes and tweaked the saturation to make the hole image come together. I also created a new layer and used a 1 pixel black brush with overlay blending mode to create veins on the hands and arms.

Step 10:

Clean up the objects and blend them with masks and low opacity eraser and tweak the shadows and you are done!
