Home they brought her warrior dead (2011) is set to Lord Alfred Tennyson's poem of the same title. Written for soprano voice, this piece is meant to dramatically present the text. The piece moves in and out of various harmonic foundations, mimicking the widow's emotional flux. In the same manner, rhythms and phrases present themselves inconsistently. The piece comes to a climax as the widow finally chooses to weep for her dead husband, realizing that her love for him will live on through their child. This piece is dedicated to Joan Estep, without whom this piece would not be possible.

Stole a maiden from her place, Lightly to the warrior stepped, Took the face-cloth from the face; Yet she neither moved nor wept. Rose a nurse of ninety years, Set his child upon her knee— Like summer tempest came her tears— ‘Sweet my child, I live for thee.’
