Level 3 AV was founded in April of 1996 in response to the ever growing demand for presentation technology being introduced into the corporate workplace. Neurological Tele-Theater
Barrow’s Neurological (BNI) was looking to “freshen” an existing, rear projected, immersive tele-presence theater by upgrading their four (4) LCD projectors. After engaging with Level 3 Healthcare and discussing their medical and educational needs, we suggested a more powerful approach. We designed a system that incorporated eight (8), 47”, thin bezel, LCD monitors positioned in portrait mode, butted together to create a single, large format “pixel bed” with an overall video resolution of 6400 x 1366. Broadcast level video equipment was integrated into the design to provide live, no-latency video streaming of up to sixteen (16) HD video sources. Three (3) Cisco video conferencing codecs were interfaced providing the ability to broadcast live video images and content anywhere in the world. Two HD video cameras and one HD camera from a
Zeiss 3-D microscope are fed via fiber optic to this wall. Microphones located at both ends allow twoway communication with the neurosurgeon for real time collaboration and training. This theater provides Barrow with an enhanced capability to educate as well as host press conferences, share live surgeries, collaborate live with the Arizona Science Center and conduct multiperson video conferences with medical specialists from around the world. Most recent integration is a 200 seat 3D Theater where live signals from OR suites are displayed via a 3D projector to enhance the educational capabilities of surgical procedures.

Digital Operating Room & Conference Centers
The OR 360 provides a 2x2 video wall that can be fed visiting customer welcome information, digital signage content and/or a live feed from the O.R. The image currently being displayed is a scaled, S-Video feed from a Steris in-light camera. This center, (O.R. 360), was designed to provide a flexible environment in which to “simulate� flexible O.R. set ups and equipment boom positions. A unique feature to this simulation center is the fact that the equipment booms and lights are attached to a ceiling mounted mobile track allowing the simulation team to quickly change and mock up varying simulation scenarios based upon a desired outcome or field prep scenario. This is one of two small conference rooms that attach to the O.R. They provide live AV feeds and real time, 2-way communication with the surgical staff for planning and strategy sessions. Simulation Center for Advanced Clinical Skills
The simulation center at AHSP is one of the most robust and capable simulation centers in the country. The audio visual integration brought together mannequin technology, medical device and instrumentation technology, event/simulation recording, clear-com communication amongst the actors, doctors and nurses, AV distribution and transmission to downstream participants, touch panel control for Sim Techs, as well as voice processing taking a male Sim Techs voice and converting it into a female or child’s voice at the mannequin location. The outcome of this technology integration produces a more “life-like” simulation which translates into saving lives. “This is not a ‘pretend’ environment,” says Russell Metcalfe-Smith, manager of the Women’s Guild Simulation Center for Advanced Clinical Skills. “This is a real hospital.” It just so happens that the patients on the ground floor of the Pavilion are robotic mannequins that can blink, bleed, talk, hyperventilate, and give birth. These simulated humans give every one from medical students to nurses and senior faculty—in fact, the entire hospital workforce— the chance to confront unfamiliar situations in a controlled environment.

Osteopathic Manipulation Lab
Level 3 Healthcare worked directly with the Dean of OMM to create a workspace such that an instructor could take a patient, bring them to a raised, center stage at the front of the classroom, manipulate the patient according to the curriculum and broadcast that demonstration out to large format, High Def, LCD monitors located in front of every student manipulation table. The HD video was also transmitted across the hall to a secondary lab containing overflow students at their tables. At the instructors manipulation table Level 3 Healthcare installed three, HD cameras with Pan, Tilt and Zoom capability. This, in conjunction with a camera control station, also located at center stage, allowed an assistant the ability to zoom and adjust the camera according to the instructors manipulation and provide close up, detailed, High Def video of the instructors body posture, hand placement, patient positioning, etc.

Siemens provided the Artis Zeego Angiography system and Level 3 Healthcare provided the O.R. integration to include; a 22” touch panel controller at the nurses’ station, large format, wall mounted, LED monitors and a stand-alone equipment rack (located in the control room adjacent to the O.R.) housing the matrix switch for routing AV signals to the boom monitors, the Siemens 56” surgical monitor, two (2) large wall monitors, a Siemens router and recording feeds
The Maricopa Burn Center, rated #2 for top burn centers in the United States, is engaged in an effort to increase the state wide efficiency and effectiveness of their disaster relief program by incorporating video conferencing equipment and current telemedicine technology. Level 3 Healthcare is aiding their efforts by designing customized telemedicine carts, providing camera embedded video conferencing LCD monitors at nurses’ stations and establishing state wide video bridging services that can easily be accessed by a desktop or laptop computer. In essence we are helping Maricopa Burn extend their reach by utilizing telemedicine technology. This improves their ability to assist others around the state by quickly diagnosing accident victims and recommending plans of action.

Significant work includes a nursing simulation lab featuring a HD recording and archival system. Level 3 Audiovisual has provided full lighting integration along with Crestron Fusion for the staff to have room viewing throughout the campus.
Phoenix Children’s Hospital was looking to integrate several easy to use comprehensive presentation / teaching / distance learning systems for their existing campus and new 11 story tower. The various conference room systems consist of large format DICOM displays, HIPPA compliant video conferencing systems, both analog and HD connections for various input signal types to be displayed and distributed to other healthcare teaching facilities. All systems encompass an easy to use comprehensive control system that can be controlled over the Hospitals internal IT / AV network. A recording, webcasting, streaming server has been provided for continuing education and capturing presentations from doctors and physicians.

Corporate Headquarter Integration
Scenario: Dial Henkel was using a silo approach to their AV Integration where each room within the enterprise was a standalone system. Management and the AV Staff were burdened with having to maintain each room individually without a connected AV network or management software system. Our response was to: 1) Create and establish an enterprise level, building-wide, dedicated AV network. 2) Centralize all audio video equipment into a single location. 3) Incorporate an enterprise AV management software system for access, control and monitoring. Upon completion of the project the media resource team of two was able to manage, monitor and control the entire building wide system from any “networked” computer source. This allowed a media resource team member to be off site and still control a room or assist an associate with an issue. The AV network we provided for Dial/Henkel has allowed the same team of two people to manage the entire AV system which was larger than the original system.
Scenario: Dial/Henkel had over 25 conference rooms, 4 boardrooms, a large auditorium and several huddle rooms. The cost of dedicating a video conferencing codec in every room was very expensive to manage. Our response was to design and implement a “Video Codec Farm”. American Express: (Travel, Financial & Corporate) For over twelve years Level 3 Audiovisual has provided design, installation, integration, repair and support services, on a National level, for American Express’ Travel, Financial and Corporate divisions. Travel Call Centers: Each call center varies in technological requirements and varies in price from $125,000 to $300,000. Currency Exchange: Level 3 AV provides design, installation, integration and support services for American Express Financial’s currency exchange division. American Express Financial is in the process of converting legacy currency exchange kiosks inside major airports. This requires very close coordination with several other trades due to the extreme nature of Airport security. At times it also requires the use of Union Labor which always adds a layer of coordination to any project.

Midwestern University – Campus Wide Central Recording, Archiving, Web-based viewing system. Scenario: Midwestern University was faced with a challenge when attempting to record, edit and archive classroom presentations campus wide. Initially Midwestern was utilizing internal staff to physically push a cart, loaded with video recording equipment, to the lecture room, lab or auditorium to capture video footage. At the end of the presentation, the media tech would retrieve the cart and recorder and transcode that footage for editing. Once edited it would be downloaded to Blackboard for review. This was a very labor intensive process and as the University grew in size so did their need for staff within the media department. This process was not scalable. Our response was to design and implement a campus wide, fiber optic infrastructure connecting over 17 buildings and “head-ended” in a single room for video and audio ingest, scheduling, record, archive, edit, meta-tag and distribution. The system has been active for six months now and the University has been able to almost double the amount of recordings without adding additional staff to their roster. The overall benefit has been both a major improvement to their bottom line as well as student test scores.
Dial / Henkel – Enterprise Wide AV Integration Scenario: Dial Henkel was using a silo approach to their AV Integration where each room within the enterprise was a standalone system. Management and the AV Staff were burdened with having to maintain each room individually without a connected AV network or management software system. Our response was to: 1) Create and establish an enterprise level, building-wide, dedicated AV network. 2) Centralize all audio video equipment into a single location. 3) Incorporate an enterprise AV management software system for access, control and monitoring. Upon completion of the project the media resource team of two was able to manage, monitor and control the entire building wide system from any “networked” computer source. This allowed a media resource team member to be off site and still control a room or assist an associate with an issue. The AV network we provided for Dial/Henkel has allowed the same team of two people to manage the entire AV system which was larger than the original system. Scenario: Dial/Henkel had over 25 conference rooms, 4 boardrooms, a large auditorium and several huddle rooms. The cost of dedicating a video conferencing codec in every room was very expensive to manage. Our response was to design and implement a “Video Codec Farm”.
