Section 1: Money & Basic Equipment Money & Basic Equipment Starting Money Most player characters begin with some amount of cash. This “nest egg” may be your character's life savings. It may be a gift from parents to start out in the world. It may be booty from another campaign. Perhaps a small treasure chest was stumbled across, whetting an appetite for greater and more dangerous prizes. How the character came by the money is not important (although it may be fun to know). You are free to create any explanation you want that coincides your characters background. To learn your character's starting funds, roll the dice indicated for his group. This is the number of gold pieces your character has to obtain equipment. Multi-class characters use the most advantageous die range of their classes. Starting Money for 1st Level Characters Character Group Die Range Rogue 2d6 x 10 gp Priest * 3d6 x 10 gp Warrior 5d4 x 10 gp Wizard (1d4+1) x 10 gp *Priest characters can use their money only to purchase equipment and goods. Once all purchases are made, the priest character must return all but two or three of his remaining gold pieces to his superiors (since his equipment is supplied by his organization). Priests cannot lend any of their initial funds to other characters.

1st level characters can purchase only from Section 1 & 2 of the Equipment Handbook. 2nd through 5th level characters can purchase items from Sections 1,2 & 3. Characters 6th level and above can purchase from the entire Equipment Handbook (provided that the campaign allows for it). PC's starting at any level above 1st will be allowed to purchase any magical items out of The Magic Item Handbook that are not currently owned by any other member of the party with the following exception; Potions and oils: There can be duplicates of these items. The PC’s Character Level (based on experience, not ECL or racial level) is what to use for the table above. No single item is purchaseable that costs more than 50% of a characters starting wealth above 1st level. Cost of magic items can be found in The Magic Item Handbook unless the character is attempting to create a new magic item, which requires the DM’s help to accomplish. Items (normal and magical) from other source books (3rd, 3.5, 4th edition, etc.) will not be reworked to fit into this version due to the sheer amount of the numerous items and complexities/varied rules of the different types. Racial identified equipment is usable only by the listed specific race. There are very few exceptions, all of which are introduced during the adventure.
