Our favourite teacher this week is Saadat Chowdhury. Just in with a Biotechnology major from Monash University (Malaysia/ Australia), Chowdhury began teaching O and A level Biology at Mastermind in July 2012 and is currently the youngest Bio teacher in town. “Traditionally, as a culture, we lean toward stricter education models. It is often a misconception that if a school is like a boot camp, students will come out more disciplined and somehow ‘better’ in studies,” he says. “My goal is to inspire passion and enjoyment in learning so that students WANT to learn, not just study because they have to.” With this mindset, Chowdhury, along with few others, initiated an institution called the “Think Tank” in Dhanmondi, which takes student education centers to a whole new level by providing multiple added facilities, such as a lounge with cafeteria, wifi, television, pool table, and much more to ensure that the students can relax and enjoy in between classes. While completing his own studies, Chowdhury also found time to work in
When she smiled Jasmine doesn’t have a lot of things. School is a luxury for her. Often, there’s not enough to eat. Things like fancy dresses and pretty things are things she can only dream of. In spite of it all, she keeps smiling a smile that lights up the whole space she stands in. We could learn a thing or two from her.
various projects for Brac, Acid Survivors Foundation and the World Bank, and today runs an NGO that serves the elderly. Chowdhury enjoys playing with his niece and nephew, watching movies and reading Harry Potter or graphic novels (he is a die-hard fan of DC and Marvel comics). Afshan Sattar

Science Fun Facts On Space When astronauts leave footprints on the moon, they stay there for good as there is no wind to blow them away. As there is less gravity on Mars, a person weighing 100kg on earth would only weigh 38kg there! Uranus is the only planet rotating on its side in a barrel like manner. Venus is the only planet that spins backwards compared to others. Because no gravity has a downward pull on them, Humans become a little taller in space.

Kangaroos and emus struggle to walk backwards because of the atypical shape of their legs. A hippopotamus though huge, can still run faster than a man.

Plant Facts Some plants, like The Venus Flytrap, are carnivores, and gain nutrients by consuming small insects and spiders. Touching poison ivy will cause an allergic, rash like reaction because it produces a skin irritant called Urushiol. Through a method called metamorphosis, plant remains found at the bottom of swamps and marshes can gradually turn into coal. More than 200,000 identified plant species have been discovered and we’re still counting.

For those of you who already have a pet dog, it is important for you to train them if you want to keep them for a long time. The following tips show how to take care of your woof; also those of you who are thinking of bringing home a pup this will be useful for you too! 1) Exercise Just handing your pup over to the help at home won’t cut it. Your dog needs to know that YOU are the one who’s providing for him. Bond with your dog over a 10-15 minute walk. That’ll help Fido know you a little better. 2) Discipline If it’s a new dog, pick out a special name and always refer to him using that name. Once a dog understands the name it has, it will obey you every time you call him out or tell him to behave. During a walk, if he gets out of his leash command using words like “woah” or “stop.” Call out their name every time they are looking up at your face, they will understand that you want their attention. 3) Temper If you have a hotheaded doggy, then you should never force him to get trained. You risk getting attacked by your precious pup. Stay calm, and go slow with the training. 4) Reward When all is said and done, keep repeating till Fido get’s the hang of it. Give him a treat for being such a good dog! Rubab Nayeem Khan

The evergreen Tintin and his dog Snowy stumble upon a model ship named Unicorn. But our curious journalist soon discovers that there’s more to it that meets the eye. With numerous levels and challenging puzzles, the story takes place in mansions, huge barracks of the ships and in underground caverns. The infamous Captain Haddock adds to the game, the right amount of ridicule and since , some parts of the game take place within Haddock’s dream, the sudden nonsensical plot twists make no problem at all. A great good guy versus bad guy story, this is a must play game for all diehard fans of Tintin out there, guaranteed to be your favourite in no time. Sama E Deen
Initially a short experiment at the Ringling College of Art and Design, The Colours Of Evil rose to fame as a big animated computer film back in 2012. A girl and her devilish revenge, the movie is about a school girl, Vivian, who has finally given up her patience, and is sick and tired of being bullied by her nosy, notorious mate Nancy. Deciding to take revenge on the bully for her terrible behaviour, Vivian , with her knowledge of dark arts, uses the Demon summoning book to summon her own “100% demon made in hell” , with whose help she plans to teach the bully a lesson she’ll never forget. But when the demon she wants, is not the demon she gets , Vivian’s plans are questioned big time as the demon instead of punishing the bully, decides to become her friend. A four minute explosion of an adorable tale, this movie can be downloaded from Youtube and is a definite must watch for fun. Sama E Deen
