HOUSE UNDER A POOL Luxury private residence and landscaping
Firm: Rumy Shroff and associates Project team : Dhawal Jain(Project architect), Kayzad Shroff (Associate), Ronnie Bulsara(associate), Rumy Shroff (Principal) 8
Project size : 2500 sq ft + 20000 sq ft landscaping Location : Alibaug, India This project primarily involves relocation and design of a swimming pool and its peripheral areas along an existing house, located on a scenic contoured hillside. In addition, it also provides an opportunity to rethink the land adjacent to the existing house. The colonnade and existing swimming pool along the north face of the building were adopted as a proverbial axis along which the new swimming pool, an outdoor dining area, a bar and more ancillary activities were organised. 9

BLACKINTON MILL Adaptive Reuse and Master Planning (ongoing)
Firm: MASS Design Group, Boston Project Team : Michael Murphy, Justin Brown, Chris Kroner, Dhawal Jain, Vrinda Sharma, Evelina Knodel 22
Project size : 45000 sq ft + master planning Location : North Adams, Massachusetts At the core of the project in North Adams is the concept of remediation. Remediation is a bit of a neutral term, but in the environment, it refers to the coping with historical pollution and cleaning it, remediating it, hiding and overcoming it. The question must be then, what is the physical remediation of North Adams required in order to achieve that. This project moves around the adaptive reuse of an Historical mill and masterplanning of the entire site around it. 23

Project size : 50000 sq ft Location : Mumbai, India Conceptually thought to be a matrix of lines and planes giving a distinct character to the facade, the built form was materialized with the eclectic choice of materials. The materials used being Black and grey zinc along with wood, the small and subtle variations along the facade make it an Architectural wizard. The location being a dense urban setup, the building tightly wraps itself along the neighbourhood and creates a profound architectural impact. 29

THE LIMINAL SHIFT Proposal for a University library
Academic: Virginia Tech Graduate Thesis (on-going) Project mentors : Jim Jones, Akshay Sharma, Henri De Hahn, Robert Dunay, Jack Davis, Donna Dunay 36
Project size : 100,000 sq ft Location : Malawi, Africa Malawi is currently known as one of the poorest countries in the world. As against the economic numbers which create a particular dismissive image about this country globally, there are plenty of strong factors rooted deep into the communities. Factors such as pride in terms of their culture, food and values. These qualities along with many other could create a new identity for Malawi as a Nation. This thesis explores this path towards the much required liminal shift for Malawi. 37
Limen is a latin term, which means threshold. In psychology; a limen is a threshold of a physiological or psychological response. It is the boundary of perception. Liminality, which is derived from ‘limen’, means the state of change one goes through before a transformation. This thesis evaluates the current pre-liminal conditions in Malawi through the study of its activities, events and culture. It proposes an intervention in the form of a new library which at its core is developed around the principles of liminality. Right from the use of gathering spaces to the use of shaded spaces and all the way to the construction techniques, this thesis is an attempt towards a Liminal shift in Malawi.

MAJULI MEASURE DRAWINGS Rural measure drawings
Academic: KRVIA Second year urban Project Project mentor : Dhawal Jain, Priyank Vaghasia, Nikita Rane, Akshay Wilkinson, Harshada Khatu 56
Project size : Location : Majuli, India Majuli, being a river island in Asia, was one of the most challenging sites to study and measure draw, considering its topography and also its cultural diversity. The task was to study 3 rural settlements known as ‘Satras’ which is equivalent of an extremely small village. It involved understanding the plans, structures and material of those settlements and drawn them in detail on site. All this work culminated in the form of a public exhibit of all the drawings produced. 57
