Week 2 Progress Buck Dam to Lone Ash 16 miles
The trail meanders peacefully for 3 miles through rural landscapes and pastures to Ivanhoe Bridge.
Ivanhoe Furnace is one of the many iron works that dotted the New River Valley over 100 years ago.
The trail continues from Ivanhoe to the Jackson Ferry Shot Tower
Construction on this 75-foot tower started just after the Revolutionary War and was completed in 1807. One of only a few shot towers remaining in the U.S., lead shot for ammunition was produced here.
s l l a F d r a e e t h s o F mile a  1 A series of step like waterfalls, the class III whitewater at Foster Falls is popular for tubing, canoeing and kayaking.
Did you know the New River offers some of the best fishing in Virginia? According to DGIF, it supports thriving populations of freshwater fishes: a variety of bass, walleye, black crappie, muskellunge, catfish, yellow perch, sunfish and more.
The view of the cliffs and ledges near Foster Falls and Lone Ash is magnificent.
