President/CeO’s welcome

“Success requires both urgency and patience. Be urgent about making the effort, and patient about seeing the results.”

The Thruway is being built. On the morning of July 7th, the public was invited to begin using that big, beautiful bridge for the very first time. A week earlier, more than one hundred public officials and invited guests participated in a joint ribbon cutting and groundbreaking ceremony.

The ribbon cutting signified that the bridge and northern section of the bridge were just about ready to accept travelers, of all kinds, to use this safe, modern facility. The groundbreaking was, on the other hand, the kickoff of the third and final section of the Thruway. This section will include both a connector route into the City of Sunbury via Route 61 via the Veterans Memorial Bridge and the long-awaited completion of the Selinsgrove Bypass.

Just look at the cover picture and you see a ‘windowpane of progress.’ Known as the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway, this efficient, new, safe highway will operate, we believe, much like a three-digit interstate connecting I-80 into and out of the Greater Susquehanna River Valley. But much like the Appian Way, the famous Roman road, it wasn’t built in a day.

The quote above, attributed to Ralph Marston, author of The Daily Motivator blog, speaks nicely to the urgency which has driven Chamber leaders for decades to push for this highway, with its impressive bridges and majestic scenic views. Advocacy leading up to the thruway construction commenced in 1957, was strengthened by the opening of the Selinsgrove Bypass in 1972 and has never waned since.

Chambers of Commerce, including the Greater Susquehanna Valley’s, do every day what most people think ‘just happens.’ In other words, we set our sights on making our area among the finest places to live, work, and play. We also do our level best to let the world know that our valley is a great place to open a business, raise a family, and to spend a long weekend or maybe even a lifetime.

Programmed for progress—we are. In fact, if there’s a single word to would wrap up the Chamber’s mission, it would have to be prosperity. We continue to stay Mission focused.

Our Mission reads as follows: “The Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce advances the prosperity of its communities, commerce, culture, fellow citizens, and their businesses in its region through the leadership of its members.”

In your hands is the 2022 edition of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory & Business Resource Guide. Said another way, the pages that you’re about to leaf through contain the very best contacts; including names, phone numbers, and websites; that can lead you, your business or your organization and your employees, colleagues and neighbors to the promise of prosperity that this area has so long generated and maintained.

If you’re visiting our area, I extend a heartfelt and warm welcome. If you’re looking for a solid business referral, it’s just ahead in these pages you’re about to read. Thanks for taking the time to learn more about our valley. With a warm handshake in thought, I remain Sincerely yours,
