TERAS LASWI LIFESTYLE CENTER
Location: Jl. Laswi, Batununggal, Bandung
3rd year Architectural Design Studio, 2020, supervised by Ir. Budi Faisal MAUD, MLA, Ph.D. Laswi is located in the center of Bandung City. Laswi is one of the busy areas in Bandung. No wonder that a lifestyle center can complete the area to provide its needs through place-making. A lifestyle center is different from the usual mall. Lifestyle center has great space experience so that the visitor can hang out without afraid of getting bored. A lifestyle center doesn’t need anchor because every corner is attractive.

AMORPH The plans designed with no regularity to pull out a unique space experience. So it creates an amorph plan from curves while avoiding unused corners.
DISABLED FRIENDLY All of the people can enjoy the Teras Laswi Lifestyle Center, including the disabled. It is equipped with ramps, lifts, and toilets for the disabled.
MATERIALS Concrete is the dominant material in this building. It is accompanied by glass on the facade and wood on the floors and railings.
PLANTS Not just the placement of plants, the type of plants are also thoughtfully designed. Aganthis dammara (damar tree) is planted inside the building to create visuals in the void. Casuarina equisetifolia (whistling pine tree) is placed along the car lane. Ficus elastica (rubber fig) and Ficus lyrata (fiddle-leaf fig) flourish the outdoor garden. Vernonia elliptica (Lee Kwan Yew) complete the facade. Many types of shrubs also fill the planter box, vertical garden, and rooftop garden.

ACCESSIBLE It has three entrances: from drop off, pedestrian path, and apartment. Within ramps in two entrances, it is accessible for every people. The entrances are decorated with shrubs in the planter boxes to make them attractive.

INTEGRATING INDOOR AND OUTDOOR
VARIETY OF PLANTS
Indoor and outdoor space are integrated so that the line between indoor and outdoor space are indistinct. To do that, it is designed with an outdoor terrace in the restaurants and food court. The outdoor space also well designed to minimize unuseful space.
The lifestyle center combines plants and building to complete each other. There are many variants of plants, indoor and outdoor, from ground covers to trees. It has a big open space outside and several planter boxes inside the building.

SWARGA SENI ARTSPACE
Location: Kota Baru Parahyangan, Jl. Parahyangan Raya, Padalarang, Bandung
3rd year Architectural Design Studio, 2019, supervised by Dr.Ing. Ir. Boedi Darma MSA. Kota Baru Parahyangan is a new housing area in Bandung. Kota Baru Parahyangan is claimed to become an independent city with educational insight. It has three main concepts: education, history, and culture; with sustainable development. To support the housing settlement, it needs a place that can support its concepts. An artspace is one of them. Swarga Seni is named after Kota Baru Parahyangan. The word “Swarga” (Javanese) has the same meaning as “Parahyangan” (Sundanese), which is ‘heaven”. Besides that, “seni”, in Bahasa, means “art”. Swarga Seni is designed to be the heavens for art, as well as the artists. Swarga Seni as an artspace is the place for not just making but also appreciating arts.

HIERARCHY Taking advantage of site contour to create a hierarchy of heights.
DISABLED FRIENDLY Disabled people can have a journey in this artspace by themself, supported by ramps and a toilet for disabled.
LINEAR ORGANIZATION Three mass is organized to have a curvilinear circulation.
PASSIVE DESIGN It designed with no air conditioner, so it has a lot of openings to create a natural airflow with a crossventilation system.
A JOURNEY Swarga Seni Artspace serves a journey from “earth” to “heaven”. The journey starts from the lowest contour in the site, where vehicles are parked, so the journey can only be enjoyed by walking. Visitors are welcomed by a curvy-form building that enhances the human craft. At the end of the building, there is a round-shape sunken, the amphitheater that is surrounded by trees and shrubs. From there, seen two other buildings, both dominated by plain, grey color from concrete. The visitors can continue the journey by walking between them. For the finale, a ramp goes around the last mass toward a circular gallery.

The first mass in interpreted to be “earth” as it contains the room for the activity that considered worldly, temporal. It is translated to its material: brick walls and clay roof tiles that are used in most Indonesian houses. This mass becomes a place to make and sell arts, including retails, cafes, workshop rooms, and stockrooms.
The second mass is just after the amphitheater. This mass and the amphitheater is the transition space between “earth” and “heaven”. The mass is designed with concrete and steel to accompany the third mass. This transition mass is a multifunction room that can be a room for a seminar, ceremony, and also an extension of the main gallery.
The third mass, as the final mass, become the “heaven”. The mass has a round plan so it has continuous, infinity circulation. It is dominated by concrete with some water features to create calmness. The main room in this mass is a gallery on the second floor. The gallery is a place to appreciate art, the eternal element. But it also has other rooms on the first floor, such as a library, a prayer room, and an office.

HELLO ZEE
URBAN INFILL HOSTEL & CAFE
Location: Jl. Otto Iskadar Dinata no. 190, Bandung
3rd year Architectural Design Studio, 2020, supervised by Dr.Ing. Ir. Boedi Darma MSA. Hello Zee Hostel & Cafe is located in Jl. Otto Iskandar Dinata (Otista), one of the oldest main street in Bandung. Despite Otista was one of the economic centers in Bandung, its building activities are sliding down and couldn’t compete with others. Hello Zee practices urban infill to take advantage of the economic potential of Otista. “Hello” is a simple greeting that can make cheer and comfort. “Zee” is a continuation of “Z” that illustrates building mass that has a slanted bridge plan. The homeliness of “Hello” and the firmness of “Zee” represent a functional but cozy hostel and cafe.

KINI
A MINDFUL PLACE
Location: Jl. Prof. Dr. Satrio, Pondok Jaya, Pondok Aren, Tangerang Selatan
Submitted for Architecture Festival 2020, a competition of ‘mindfulness’. In the past few years, suicide committed by young adults increased rapidly. One of the main affecting factors is stress because it induces mental and physical health. Mindfulness, by fully aware of the present moment, can reduce stress, and expectedly suicides. KINI is a space that practices mindfulness. KINI, in Bahasa Indonesia means ‘at present’, hopefully, can help the user to be fully present, to clear their mind. To support mindfulness, KINI has 3 main concepts: inward, green, and community.

LIBRARY CAFE
SENSORY GARDEN
KINI’s user can hang out here, either having a me-time with books or having a quality time with friends. KINI’s library café integrated with outdoor space since there are a lot of openings to the sensory garden. It makes the library café feels roomier. The library café is there to recover stress.
The sensory garden is an outdoor garden that is based on 5 senses: sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. Element in this garden, such as plants, water fountains, and stone, will help the user to heal. The sensory garden is there to remind about the present moment by fully using our senses.

MEDITATION ROOM
FITNESS ROOM
Meditation room, just as the name, is a place to meditate, to calm the mind. It is illuminated by indirect light to give a peaceful atmosphere. The atmosphere is emphasized by the smell of aromatherapy. The meditation room is the main room to practice mindfulness because it is less distracting.
The fitness room is a multi-purpose room that can be used to do some simple fitness activity without sports equipment. It has an overhaul spring floor to do some simple gymnastic moves. The fitness room is there to increase activity as well as the community.
