narratives As a kid, I always wondered what “passion” really means and why my parents always forced me to look for something I am truly “passionate” about. That’s where I started to explore my personality and get to know what I enjoyed most. It wasn’t buildings or facades, it all started with the love for sketching and imagining things that did not exist or at least I believed they did. I started creating scenarios about drawings that I drew and make fantasy stories to narrate to people my age. Then, it was time to think about my future and what career I needed to pursue. I took these childhood narratives then, and translated them to reality where the characters of them could be my future clients, my narratives are my concepts and the drawings are my plans and designs for a sustainable and creative space that my clients will be impressed about and will be willing to accommodate and utilize.

That’s when I challenged myself to befriend architecture and take these innocent tales into the next level. It started when I replaced having milk before I head to bed with an caffeine-rich drink or substitute my 8-hour sleep with a 2-day all-nighter, replacing my bed-time story with “Form, space and order” and of course replacing my shopping budget to buy a new T-square ruler or print my plans to discuss them with my professors . But all these interchanges have been worth it. It’s tiring, challenging and risky indeed, but what’s a good experience if one rejects such an opportunity? In this portfolio I will reflect on different areas of knowledge that I have been introduced to during my architectural journey from landscape projects to urban ones. Therefore, I hope that through my portfolio and the following works, I will be able to define what passion for architecture really meant to me.

eroded morphologies workshop 2014 - amman, jordan

1 in.teg.u.ment n. a project worked upon in a workshop organized by the Architectural Association of Architecture in London, UK. Participants are expected to get inpsired from a natural phenomenon. A computational context shellcolumn structure has been developed using many Grashopper Plug-ins, Rhino, Autodesk Maya and Keyshot for rendering purporses.

6

inspired phenomena Honeycomb Weathering is known for it’s vesicular texture which is characterized by containing, many vesicles/pores.The vesicles are formed by the expansion of bubbles of gas during the solidification of the rock.

stitch n. a landscape project that is located on campus at the German Jordanian University for the School of Architecture and Built Environment . The goal of the the project has been to design the landscape area around the campus to impose the campus’s building and its function as an architecture and design school in the old urban context it is located in. The concept has emerged from stitching more than one potential spaces in the plot and to activate several activities in these nodes as leisure, educational, and social areas for students, locals and outgoings to interact. Project developed using Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD, Photoshop and Cloud Rendering. 11

design analysis

environmental analysis noise noise mainly affect the campus’s extension from the two main streets, the upper and the lower one

form development

form has been developed after deciding the main nodes of action, the grid that is needed to work upon and major transformations that needed to take place to come up with the design .The grid has been made so that it gives a playful feel 13

picture of project’s model

bay.ou n. an urban design/planning project that has been applied for the Schlaun Wettbewerb Compeition 2015-2016 in Germany. The project aims to design an industrial area in Oberhausen known as Sterkrade. The main conept of the project’s design is to bring life back to the area and promote the great industrial heritage and history of the place. A huge forest, river-side and many commercial services on site have been neglected for years and the main focus of this project was how to re-utilize the river-side to bring back life to the people and create activites that intend to bring people together with communal activities and enhance the lifestyle of the industrial area being placed at a pedestrian-friendly greenlands. Project developed using Autodesk Vectorworks,AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.

Both, the green structures and industrial linkages have been analysed to understand the main SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats)in the area that we need to focus on and enhance.

19

water structures, noise and barriers have been also analyzed to understand how the concept of water could be incorporated, how the noise can be limited and what barriers have been existent for us to keep and re-utilize for residential areas.

concept development the concept has been developed when the main opportunities and weaknesses have been studied, understood and observed on and off site where the idea of sustainable approaches has been reached. The things that has been stressed upon have been circulating around the idea of keeping the people active, comfortable, and enjoying the identity and the greenery of the space.

housing typologies different house typolgies have been embedded. Town houses, multi-family houses, and villas. The building heights have been also studied so that the panorama of the city is not affected when one gets on top of industrial areas. The houses have been also designed in a way by which they are felxible for greenery implementations of the people living in the units.

edu.tain v. a graduation project in the fifth-last year at university. The project has been inspired after a one year exchange program in Germany and a personal experience I had while witnessing how my grandfather (a blind old man) was able to overcome all social, phyiscal and urban challenges when dealing with the built environment. This edutainment center project targets the blind, visually impaired and fully sighted personas in the city of Amman, Jordan where the project is an edutainment center that targets youth and adults to raise awareness about the capabilities of the blind and visually impaired. It aslo allows the fully sighted experience a sensorial journey in the lifestyle of a blind/ visually impaired person by activating all other senses other than just the vision. Project has been developed using AutoCAD, Revit, Cloud, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign & MS Office.

24

edu.tain.ment edutainement is a neologism (new term coinage), similar to infotainment , that expresses the marriage of education and entertainment in a work or presentation1. This presentation has been reflected in this center in an interactive matter by which all other senses can be activated to make one interact with the built environment in a different manner than just visually as we always do. Tacticle, olfactory, auditory and even gustatory programs have been embedded throughout the project. Aside from that, a dining in the dark or dans le noir resturant has been designed in the project for the locals and tactile exhibitions and galleries have been introduced. 1 source:definition extracted from whatis.target.com

objectives

objectives and motives of the project have not been limited to only architectural parameters, rather urban aspects have been taken into consideration due to the urban context of the location chosen in downtown amman, jordan,

location

the site is located in downtown amman where the city’s urban development have initiated. The analysis undergone has been through consecutive layers including attraction sites, vegetation, accessibilities and roads in the urban context.

26

27

analysis sensorial analysis of understanding the blind have not been done only from research. Rather, several users have been interviewed, observed and have been asked to visit the site to understand how they adapt to the site and the urban context. the main observations have been related to sounds, textures, smells, movement and even obstacles that they faced walking through the site. this is what needed to be to reflected in the project as it proceeds.

n. a selection of projects after a 6-month internship at the böhm architects and consultants. The projects range from residential projects, commercial to even european/international competitions. Projects worked upon at the office are usually developed using the following programs AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign as well as Autodesk Revit.

35
