Note to Parents and Teachers
Suggested Activities
‘The Truth’ is the fifth book in ‘The Jesus Series’ of 16 books for 4−5 year olds to read themselves. It teaches that Jesus is the truth.
Encourage children to:
The alphabet’s first eight letter sounds are introduced in Books 1−8, one per book.
look for the items beginning with an ‘e’ sound among the illustrations. make patterns by using the curly ‘e’ letter over and over again with different colours.
This book majors on ‘E’ and ‘e’ letters and offers help with writing them (page 3).
copy the word ‘Truth’ from the front cover using play dough or plasticine.
Page 3 also introduces the contemporary characters and an interesting fact to be used for discussion.
count the number of ‘e’ letters in the main text and ‘E’ letters among the illustrations.
Page 16 shows a Bible verse about he truth, with its reference, which children can be helped to memorise (see page 29 of the Teaching Guide).
use the new words for Book 5 in paired games, e.g. ‘Snap’ (see pages 11 and 15 of the Teaching Guide).
The Teaching Guide, included in this boxed set, provides more information about the Diamond Books reading project. It also gives helpful reading tips, lists the new words that are needed for each book in this series and provides an alphabet chart. Some of the pages can be photocopied, or alternatively PDFs can be printed from the Diamond Books website (www.diamondbooks.org. uk). There is also an Alphabet Poster in the box. 2
