Interior Architecture & Product Design Portfolio of Selected Works

Interior Architecture & Product Design IAPD considers three levels of design that create the experience of a space: element, envelope and environment. These three scales work together cohesively through similar design languages towards the same conceptual goal that contribute to an occupant’s perception of their surroundings.

SAVE Welcome Center Farm Training and Rehabilitation Center for U.S. Veterans In Partnership with Gary LaGrange & KSU Dept. of Agriculture Fall 2015 | Manhattan, KS | Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator SAVE Program Campus The Soldier Agricultural Vocational Education (SAVE) program’s mission is to assist soldiers and veterans to transition and find a purpose and meaning in life through teaching valuable vocation skills to meet the nation’s need for more farmers. The prototype facility for this program will provide training to 100 veterans, soldiers and family members. It will engage them early in the transition process, provide career orientation, training and farm placement. SAVE Welcome Center The Welcome Center serves as the initial point of contact with visitors and public from the surrounding community. The building will provide information about the program and upcoming events, retail space with product produced on the farm and a cafe lounge for events, classes and relaxation.

Campus Facilities Other facilities on campus besides the Welcome Center include a Clinic, Recreational Center, Learning and Community Center, Residences, Lodges, Equipment Barn, Livestock Barn, Storage, Workshop, Multifaith Chapel, Honey Processing, Apiaries and Greenhouses. These facilities work together to create a home for veterans during their yearlong training on this campus and to provide a wide variety of educational opportunities within the field of agriculture and handiwork.

Project Values Connection: Connecting visitors and veterans is an early step to forming meaningful relationships between individuals and the community. Knowledge: Educating the public leads them to recognize veterans’ hard work and develop and shared understanding. Appreciation: Appreciation is demonstrated through purchasing products and giving back to the program’s cycle. Concept These images illustrate the concept of interaction between lightness and mass. Material & Furniture Selections Warm colors and natural materials tie back to homestead and farm origins. Dark, dense woods and heavy limestone give a sense of security while soft earth tones and deep color accents provide comfort to the space.

The Theory of Prospect & Refuge Prospect and refuge describe how certain environments feel secure and thereby meet basic human psychological needs. The ideal environment often provides people with the capacity to observe without being seen. Factors such as ceiling height, light levels and space sizes can change our perspective of prospect and refuge. Higher ceilings at the entrance foyer indicate more open and free areas while lower ceilings on the north side create a more intimate space with higher tables and lower pendants.

Retail Products made on-site are availlable for purchase here such as fruit, vegetables, handmade goods, jams, honey and honey-based skincare products. The greenhouse adjacent to the building as well as parts of the gardens and orchards welcomes guests to pick their own produce and flowers.

Shopping Caddy A shopping caddy comprised of a wheeled cart and a removable cardboard basket allows visitors to shop indoors & outdoors to carry produce, flowers and other products. Mosaic Dog-Friendly Pet Food Supply Company Office Fall 2014 | Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator Mosaic Pet Food Supply Co. consists of a variety of advertising departments that work together as a team to reach common goals. In a similar way, the variety of dog breeds within the canine world illustrates the same concept of many pieces uniting to make a whole. The unity of both groups is expressed through a dominant grayscale color scheme among the structure and permanent fixtures while bright colored art and furniture express the unique attributes and individuality.

17

Reception The angled forms found throughout the office, from the reception desk to the circulation paths, reflect the concept of mosaic pieces.

Puppy Love Much of the office’s furnishings, materials and forms are dog-friendly such as the easily-cleanable sofas, nonporous flooring surfaces and desks adapted to accomodate each employee’s furry friend.

Circulation Beginning at the lobby, a tunnel transitions into an overhead place that guides circulation through the entirety of the office. It distinguishes various spatial boundaries without physically closing them off.

Dog Park Dog-friendly offices report having employees with lower stress levels, healther habits and boosted production and creativity.

Materials & Furniture (Right) Colors play directly into the concept with grayscale hues applied to the permanent structure and pops of color applied to furniture and decor.

The Nash In Progress Boutique Hotel & Restaurant Adaptive Reuse Fall 2015 - Spring 2016 | Dallas, TX Masters Thesis Program A former Nash Motors dealership built in 1930 will be renovated into a unique and affordable hotel and restaurant. It will serve as an example in the area that maintaining or transforming historic structures is worth the effort to preserve the Dallas culture. This transformation strives to respect, appreciate and celebrate history through design, to diversify the area through appealing to multiple socioeconomic and generational backgrounds, to maximize efficiency of square footage and to become integral to the local community.

25

Building Site An existing building at 2105 Commerce Street in Dallas provides 13,500 square feet within the three-level Art Deco-esque storefront. A modern addition will provide more square footage in order for a hotel and restaurant with rooftop dining to coexist and create a timeless experience inspired by the history of Nash Motors. Generative Intention Unified Distinction Between Modernity and Tradition Celebrating the past, Experiencing the present, & Anticipating the future

Model To illustrate the generative intention in a tangible manner, a brick with a history and story was transformed into something new and modern with respect to its background.
