an urban designer, you are part of a pack that includes colleagues with various backgrounds, municipalities and citizens. Having experiences all around Europe, both travelling and studying, has made me a flexible person, highly adaptable to the others’ culture, but without losing sight of my own beliefs. Aside from my academic activities, I have a lot of hobbies, photography being the one that turned into a passion, especially for urban settings, because it is a way to see and explore concrete landscapes and express ideas. Also, leaving aside the buildings, a great way to capture the essence of the city is to photograph its people. I love the fact that through this visual art a bigger emotional impact can be revealed, making it my perfect instrument to express the city’s character. I believe that my strongest quality is my eagerness to learn new things each day, in any field given, because for me, inspiration can pop up from everywhere. Also because I believe that everything is changing at a high pace nowadays and what you learned yesterday might be outdated today, I aspire in improving myself by adding knowledge on a daily basis.

The WHAT MOVES US WHILE WE MOVE? thesis has its point of departure in the pedestrian tendencies that I have recently noticed. There are two types of pedestrian users in the city: the drifter that is attracted by aesthetics in his urban strolls and the determined that is driven by efficiency in his daily routes, forgetting to enjoy the environment he passes and connect with it. Out of the two, the determined is a predominant figure in the urban landscape. This thesis is concerned with the antagonistic relationship between these two types of urban users, their presence in Aalborg centre and the emergence of mobile technologies that can make an impact or possibly change the perspectives of the determined users. Drawing together theoretical knowedge, in regards to route choice factors, appreciation of formal and symbolic qualities in the city and impact of the ICTs, and user knowledge, by conducting a survey and focus group interviews, it was noticed that it is possible to alter the determined user’s mentality in the city under the right conditions.

A determined user would take a longer and more beautiful route on his way from A to B if sun, greenery and other pleasing urban elements would be present on the streets and if his mood would be synchronized with the atmosphere of the place he is crossing, all at the cost of no more than five mi-nutes. The problem is he is not always aware of all his alternatives, given than Google Maps and other navigation technologies always offer the shortest routes without taking into account the environment.

The bachelor thesis contained 2 main parts: a first one in a group of 6 students where we had to create a development strategy for Braila county, which was focused on promoting the turism and local identity, and a second one, where I had to choose one of the county’s settlements, which, in my case was Stancuta village. For the second phase I had to take the strategy to the next level and apply it by taking in consideration the local values of the village. The architectural part was a response to this strategy. Braila County has strong potentials like a pitoresque landscape, traditional activities and agriculture. The development strategy involved promoting the county as an agrotouristic spot and a place where you can learn about the Romanian tradition values. Stancuta village has a history related to beekeeping and pomiculture. By using these traditions and combine them with the modern practices and give a chance to the young passionate people to emerge in
a fruitful activity. Creating a community of beekeepers along a belt of greenery and along the small river edging the village stands as a gesture in promoting the local values and making sure that they don’t get lost in the existent transition between new and old technologies. It also represent a way in slowing down the tendency of people moving from the rural to the urban areas, as they lack opportunities in such forgotten places.

The beekeeper’s house is adapted to the village households, it is made out of biodegradable materials and has green supply facilities. The house parcel is divided into subareas: the house and the anexes, the apiary and the orchard. The type of the house is wagon, having the circulation between the rooms as a central one. Although the rooms have wide spaces, they are efficiently heated and maintained. Textures are as natural as possible and according to the local architecture or ressembling to it. To break the monotony of the house, I have decided to fragment it and create different levels, using the considerable outdoor level difference and the different use of materials. Because the plot stands at the most important crossroad of the community, I configured it differently and added the function of trade. There is a small shop where you can sell the outcoming products likeas honey, fruits and innovative new products that can emerge from combining the first two.
Therefore, the household supports small business development based on local products. While the exterior is more traditional and preserving the local aspect, the interior hides a modern layout and furniture that would satisfy the modern needs nowadays. It was also a way to attract the young population into staying in the village and developing a local bussiness, while making sure that they do not lack the facilities that the urban life has to offer. In the end, it represents a mix between the modern and the traditional.

The project A piece of Copenhagen deals with the transformation of H.C. Ørsted Værket which is situated in a close proximity to the core of Copenhagen. The common thread throughout the project is the theme of trying to understand and develop a vibrant district that captures the pulse and the rhythm of the city. By thoroughly studying Copenhagen and looking into other cities as a source of reference the goal is to create an analytical base that will help create a dense and diverse neighborhood. In addition to this the focus is on the small gestures in the local communities, the motto being think local, act local. H.C. Ørsted Værket is an old poweplant complex. Most of the buildings and in-between spaces have lost their main functionality, and have been taken over by the urban subcultures. The place gives you the feeling of a point where nature meets the urban physical planning. Beauty can be found in the lack of organization of the area, and also in the elements
that don’t belong to the place. The powerplant is a symphony of colors, scales, materials, created by the stretch of time. The project was an attempt to create space for diversity: diversity of places, diversity of people, diversity of buildings, diversity of atmospheres. Because, as a methaphor, we are capturing the energy of the city in one place that once gave all its energy to the city. The vision was to re-use the Power station as a social and cultural catalyst for the Southern Harbor of Copenhagen.

The Wild Island, situated along the east harbour line and in connection to the office/commercial area, is more than just a land with recreational use, having an educational purpose as well, and directly connected to the hydrology system. The canal along the island is meant to clean all the water collected from the streets on the site. The people can observe the cleaning process of the water, consisting in 3 steps and taking place in 3 basins. The island is divided in 6 different areas: the entrance areas, where you can find info points and maps (the main entrance also has a built structure from reused materials, destined for workshops about the hydrology), the national plants area, the wild flowers areas, the picnic areas and the edible plants area, situated at the end of the island, where the water is clean. XL buildings compete with the city. The complexity and scale of urban spaces is often replicated, or borrowed in XL buildings. Entrances, escalators, stairs, staff, users, access systems, signs, commercial ads, lunch areas, offices, etc. are factors / layers that contribute to its complexity.

The research project A case study of Rendsburggade 14. Analizing Contemporary Mobilities represents an exploration of the everyday life mobility in the context of an XL building. The common thread carried throughout the present project is the understanding of mobilities in a differentarchitectural context (XL building), that is characterised by complexity and is accommodating large amounts of users. Such complexity determines greater movement and generates larger flows. Movement is analysed on all scales, from a large scale by looking at the directions, intensities of flows and which places are generating them, to a small scale by observing people interacting with each other, with their environment and the way they are conducting themselves in the space. RB14 is an useful case in the exploration of everyday life mobilities, as it has given insight in how people move, interact, navigate in the space and accommodate it.
RB14 is the place where the flows and ballet of students, teachers, visitors, staff, signs, food trucks, stairs, elevators, group rooms, teachers’ desks, staff offices, wayfinding systems and protocols are assembled together. The building represents a stage, like the public space, that affords and obstructs diverse movement and different mobile behaviors.
