June 1, 2016 Diana Si 105 Phalen Crescent Toronto, ON M1V 1Y5 To Whom It May Concern, Re: Reference We are pleased to provide this letter of reference for Diana Si. Diana worked in our Calgary studio from January to April 2016. While here, she was involved in a range of project types and sizes, including a renovation to an existing community arena for West Hillhurst Community Association, the new South-West Transitway, and a P3 pursuit for a large transit facility. These projects allowed Diana to see many of the phases of a project, but primarily in the early stages of the design process. With some of these projects she was part of a large team of architects, interior designers and technologists, and on others she was working by herself directly with one of our partners or associates. Diana was always conscientious with her work, timely with its completion, and worked effectively with her colleagues. As a result, Diana was valued by her team members and by the management of the firm. I have no reservations in recommending her for employment in our profession. Please feel free to contact me with questions or to discuss this reference in greater detail. Yours truly, GEC Architecture

SOUTHWEST TRANSITWAY 4

Calgary Public Transit GEC Architecture 02-04.2015 Calgary CA Supervisors: David Jenista, Gary Mundy In this project I worked closely with the project architect to refine the final designs of the Bus Rapid Transit shelters. I also conducted a study of the conditions on site around the shelters, examining pedestrian, vehicular traffic, access to the platform, views and etc. From there I developed iterative Sketchup models for each of the three designs to suit specific site conditions along the route.

I was responsible for constructing site plans from GIS data maps which integrated the platforms that varied in length for each of the sites. Elevation changes, and other site specific factors gathered from my analysis meant that each site plan presented it own design challenges to overcome. In high density urban areas for example, integrating a station could mean redesigning the threshold spaces of the buildings directly behind it. Station Locations

Mixed Use Residential 2A Design Studio 12.2016 20 Park Hill Rd. E | Cambridge CA

In response to the design studio prompt, a Grand Domestic Revolution, I removed the kitchen and dining areas from each apartment of this mixed use residential project and placed it in a shared space between each floor. Rather than providing a sub-par kitchen in every unit, each floor of the apartment complex possess a set of shared kitchen equipment of a much better quality and variety. This encourages hubs of social interaction and communal activity between residents on each floor, inspiring those who don’t know how to cook to learn and those who eat alone to meet new people.

In return for removing an element of a standard apartment I designed the form of the complex so that each unit could have access to a generous exterior space and sunlight. The arrangement of the units were staggered correspondingly in both buildings such that the balconies of the unit above would not block sunlight from entering the unit below or the units in the other building. This also resulted in a secluded courtyard that could be enjoyed by residents of the complex.

WESTMOUNT

A Public Library 1B Design Studio 03.2015 150 Westmount Ave | Toronto CA

While the value of the library depreciates as a source of information in the digital age, the infrastructure continues to adapt and stay relevant to the general public. This design remains a viable part of the community by providing not just a container of books but a space open to congregation and play. The large staircase is the key design and structural element of which floor plates are staggered around to create a variety of spaces accommodating the noise levels of various programs.

The stair in the design of this library is the an essential component. It is a space where interaction, relaxation and movement take place. Westmount does not exist as a destination, rather it allows visitors to experience the spaces within as they travel along the large staircase that is featured. This can be likened to the reason why some people prefer the texture and process of reading a real book in an age of e-readers and e-books.

REVIVIFY

A Communal Platform SSEF Design Competition Entry 04.2015 860 Lake Shore Blvd. E Toronto | CA

Revivify is a proposal for a platform along Lake Shore Blvd. E which contributes to the ongoing gentrification in the area. The platform takes advantage of the pre-existing concrete supports left behind during the demolition of parts of the Gardiner Expressway in 2001. Re-purposed Ibeams, wood joists, rebar make up the majority of the remaining materials used. This multifunctional platform encourages the surrounding community to better utilize the Lower Don Recreational Trail.
