NEW BORN SESSION

NEWBORN SESSION

What To Expect

Before Your Session When To Schedule a Session Newborn sessions typically take place between 6-10 days old; under two weeks is ideal. During this time, newborns tend to be sleepier and easier to pose. In order to guarantee availability, it is highly recommended that you book your newborn session during your second trimester of pregnancy. Once your baby arrives, simply give me a call or email, and we will select and solidify a date to schedule your session.

What To Expect Adjusting to new life with a baby can be challenging. In an effort to make your first portrait session experience a little easier, each newborn client has the luxury of an in home newborn session. We provide all of the necessary props, blankets, accessories, and even lighting so that you can enjoy the session from the comfort of your own couch. Before your scheduled session time, it is helpful to have baby undressed down to his or her diaper, and have the air vents off, or even the heat on. This may seem warm, but it will keep baby very comfortable. For the past nine months, they have been very accustomed to a warm and cozy environment! Once I arrive at your home, we will decide together which room will work best for the session. A living room, dining room, or bedroom will usually work. Setup takes approximately 20 minutes, and during that time, it is a good idea to go ahead and feed baby. This will get him or her nice and sleepy to begin the session! An average newborn session lasts approximately three hours. This allows time for feeding, changing, and keeping baby comfortable and sleepy while posing. If siblings and family members would like to participate in the session, we can always incorporate a few memorable family photographs into the session. If young siblings will be present during the session, it is helpful to have another family member or trusted caregiver to supervise them during the session to avoid any distractions, and for ultimate safety of the newborn.

Styling Your Session Our newborn sessions are neutral based with hints of color. Dainty bows, delicate wraps, and soft accessories are all included in your session. Each item used is selectively chosen to complement the beauty of your baby, without overpowering the softness of your newborn. On occasion, simple baskets and buckets will also be provided as props for your sleeping baby. Because we encourage parents to proudly display finished products from their session in their home, please let us know about any specific color schemes that might work best. Each client is able to take advantage of a complementary pre-session consultation to incorporate any ideas, special requests, etc.

What To Wear For Parents The thought of having photographs taken just after giving birth can be a bit stressful. However, I try to make this as easy and relaxing as possible for the new parents. I do not want anyone to regret NOT having their portraits made with their brand new baby! Looking relaxed and at your best will make you feel more comfortable during the session. Solid, neutral colors work best. For moms, we suggest cotton knit camis and knit tops. For dad, solid color T-Shirts or Polo shirt and jeans. Skin-onskin portraits with you holding your baby against you is also a wonderful option. It’s so simple and timeless! So if you want some portraits like this with your newborn, consider a strapless top or tank as an alternative. Lastly, don’t forget the details! Nicely combed hair and clean nails can make a big difference in the way you feel for your photographs!

After Your Session Approximately one to two weeks after your session, we will meet again to view your beautiful portraits together! A typical newborn gallery will have approximately 20-25 images. During your ordering session, you will have a chance to select and purchase your favorites, as well as professional artwork to display in your home. Your beautiful images deserve the highest quality preservation, and we are here to help you every step of the way! It is important that all decision makers be present during this time together, as all orders will be finalized.
