“Fire” by Gavin DeGraw Oh if there's one thing to be taught/It's dreams are made to be caught/And friends can never be bought/Doesn't matter how long it's been/I know you'll always jump in/'Cause we don't know how to quit” One thing I’ve learned is to always pursue any dreams and goals you have, no matter how far or how big. If it is important to you, you can make it possible. If you need some assistance and back-up to reach your goals, you can reach out to your home Key Club! Helping people is our way of life and we’ll always jump in, and when we do, we’ll always help, because, well…we don’t know how to quit.

Utilize Your Agenda Whether your agenda is in a book or on your phone, keeping track of all your important dates can help you keep all your work and events organized!

There is a place for everything. A great way to get organized is to LITERALLY get organized. When you keep track of where everything is, and make sure that they are always in their place you will find, your life will become a lot easier. So find a place for those Key Club files, and find another place for your other things.

Create A Task List As involved high school-ers, the things that we need to do can mount up high and the amount of time we have to do them can easily shorten. As a way to maintain time and get work done, you can make a task list, and prioritize which tasks are the most important.

Stop Procrastinating You may have heard people say, “Don’t leave for tomorrow what you can do today” and If you listen to this quotes, then I guarantee you that your life will be a lot less complicated. If you are able to get work done when you have the time, do it. This way later you’ll have more free time and a lot less stress.

Throw Stuff Away When you throw unimportant things away, you’ll be decluttering your workspace…and your brain. This tip will help you be more productive and a heck of a lot more organized.

Be Neat When you do everything neat, you’ll mentally feel less clustered. Being neat allows you to keep track of your files and work better as well. When you know where everything is, you’ll have a lower amount of stress.

Stay On Schedule When you need to be productive it’s very important to finish a task in the amount of time you allot yourself, and then as soon as your time is up or your task is done move on. You’ll get more stuff dine this way, and when your done everything, you can have the rest of your day doing things you want to do!

Use sticky notes Sticky notes can help you never forget anything again and can help you get your life on track and running smoothly. Just simply leave sticky notes in all common places you look. It will help a lot! 7

Ice Bucket Challenge Over the summer, the world was overtaken by the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. If nominated, you had 24 hours to either donate to the ALS Association or dump a bucket of ice water on yourself. This challenge raised millions of dollars for the ALS Association. This organization works towards finding a cure for this terrible disease. What is ALS? Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Over time, the disease makes one eventually lose complete loss of control of their body: those affected can’t even speak. The deterioration of the body eventually leads to death. There is no cure. How can my club help the ALS Foundation? How can my club save many lives? Your club can hold any sort of fundraiser that tends to be successful for your

8

individual club. Whether it is a bake sale, car wash, etc., any sort of funds you can raise are very much appreciated. Want to do something really cool though? Why not have a school wide ALS ice bucket challenge? Designate a day where the school will go outside where the challenge will take place. During the days preceding the challenge have Key Clubbers run a stand during lunches or after school where they will collect donations and give a wristband (so you don’t have any nondonators participating) to those who will be able to participate. On the designated day, have those who donated come onto the field with their buckets (can be brought from home or donated) and complete the challenge. What a great way to raise money for such a worthy cause. Please contact your LTG with any questions regarding the ALS Association or the project.

INSPIRE

YOUR MEMBERS To Fall Into Service… Sometimes, getting members interested in volunteering can be difficult. It’s a natural tendency for humans to be, well… lazy. If you happen to encounter this issue, have no worries because here is a guide that can give you some advice to get your members to fall into service. If you happen not to have an issue, this guide can only make your members stronger volunteers!

“Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.” ― Booker T. Washington

9

MATCH THEIR INTERESTS When you match their interests volunteers will be more motivated to volunteer, hence they will be better volunteers. So if your group of volunteers love animals, maybe volunteer at an animal shelter!

GIVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK When your volunteers do a good job, compliment them! Let them know that they are appreciated for everything that they do. When positivity is put in, you can expect positivity to be put out!

To A Volunteer It’s not for money, Not for fame, It’s not for only personal gain. It’s just for love of fellow man. It’s just to lend a helping hand. It’s just to give a little self (That’s something you can’t buy with wealth). It’s not for medals worn with pride. It’s for the feeling deep inside. It’s that reward deep in your heart. It’s feeling that you’ve been a part Of helping others far and near. That’s what makes you a volunteer. — Author Unknown

HAVE A LOT OF FUN! When volunteering, make it fun, make service projects an occasion that will be cherished by your volunteers for years to come. Help them make positive and happy memories. When volunteers experience those things while volunteering, they are going to want to continue to participate. If a project is too serious, and negative emotions are going around, your volunteers won’t want to come back. 10

KNOW THE DETAILS When volunteering or doing a service project, know the details of the project and what your volunteers need to do. When your volunteers know what to do they can do it. If your don’t know the details, your volunteers won’t be able to get anything done, and you will appear as disorganized.

COMMUNICATE Volunteers are love in motion! ~Author Unknown

Talk to your volunteers, let them know about any upcoming projects well in advance, let them know how long a project will take, look after the and listen to their concerns. Their work will benefit many other people, so make sure you see out that their work is the best that it can be.

TEACH THEM NEW SKILLS When volunteers like to learn new things, so, provide them an opportunity to do so. There is no better way to help them become stronger volunteers, than by teaching them how to be. To do this, try to switch up the volunteer projects. Give your volunteers new tasks and teach them new skills. They will love learning how to do it, and the people who benefit from their help will appreciate it all the more. 11

All About Dues At the beginning of every service year, to join Key Club, you need to pay money. The money you pay is referred to as Dues, and it goes forth to help fund plenty of the fun activities and items that you enjoy as Key Clubbers. International Dues

For international, you paid $6.50, this year at the Key Club International, a new bylaw was passed that raised dues to $7.00. The extra 50 cents was added to help rid of a deficit. It also helps fund the international convention, along with helping to create the Key Club products you enjoy.

District Dues

For District of New Jersey, you pay a total of $7.50. This helps to fund the District Convention and other Key Club products.

Key Leader Hello Key Clubbers of Division 2! Every fall, students from around the state of New Jersey attend Key Leader and learn valuable skills about becoming a better leader. Throughout the weekend, students participate in unique ice breakers, fun group activities, and a challenging ropes course requiring teamwork to pass it. Between the family meals and workshops, you will be able to get more feedback from other clubs, as well as information that Key Club International created for education in servant leadership, which is a type of leadership focused on the team rather than the officers. You will not only leave this weekend making 60 new friends, but also gain new tips and tricks you can bring back to your home clubs for improvement. It will be an experience that you will not be able to stop talking about! This year’s Key Leader will take place from December 57 and will cost $200 for regular students. For Key Clubbers, it will cost $175 due to a scholarship provided by Key Club International. If you are interested in attending the Key Leader event in New Jersey, go to www.keyleader.org and click on “Find Events”, then scroll down to “filter by” and selected State and proceed to click on New Jersey. We hope to see everyone at this year’s Key Leader weekend!
