Encaustic monotypes are made using a hot plate, wax sticks are used to draw directly on the hot plate. As the wax melts it can be manipulated with tools. Printmaking, watercolor, or Japanese paper is laid over the print and using a brayer, gently rubbed over the back of the paper. The process is very intuitive in nature, and in most cases, the hand of the artist is very apparent. The prints have a fresh, spontaneous feel.
