Parallel Places (VSK Children Hospice)

To explore the notions of placemaking,(un) familiarity,(ex+in)teriority and paradox, we will build architecture as a 'home away from home' for Very Special Kids(VSK), a non-for-profit charity that provides care for children with the lifethreatening condition along with w/family support & services. ​ The proposal intends to provide a place of comfort, therapeutical and a safe community-based environment for children and their families meanwhile respond to the atmosphere and authentic nature of the regional characteristic of the site.

Farmland - landscape

"The Concept" The distinct feature of the nature connection provides both visual and sensory contentment which inspire this project to respond to it. The continuous landscape of the farmland at distance define the image of the place. The project thus takes inspiration from the natural contours of the farmland and creates a wavy green roof to resonate with the environment.

Taking consideration of the special demand of the children hospice. A key part of the experience of the building is the constant reminder of its motif of 'home away from home' which disconnect from the conventional rigidness of the institutional atmosphere. The organization of the space accentuates its natural setting and frame the view accordingly.

Boundary-less Neighborhood (Brayrbook Housing +)

The concept of Boundray-less proposing an interconnected, environmental friendly and energitic community for Bryabrook. The first part of the project study at WGV(white gum valley) strategies which appied waterwise infrastructure design that convert the vacant oval of the Prichard reserve into an compelling landscape green park. The second part of the project focus on the residential intensification, propose a multi-units residential type that amplify the influence of the green space to the community.

The existing derelict oval was activated through applied water-smart infrastructure strategies, pedestrian-friendly residential typology and extensive public realm improvement which delivers a high level of permeability throughout the site.

Half Public (Lygon street interventions)

Japanese workshop (Group) + Individual work

This project consists of a series of small scale urban interventions which explore the design opportunity in Lygon street - one of Melbourne's most renowned business strip. The proposed works speculate on need for the people and business, served as the urban plugin to activate and facilitate the ignore corner of the street.

Window "Yatai"

For adults and children alike, the structure is a place to entertain, interact with the community and make 'puppet homes' that will live in a city of houses. Shows allow the puppet houses to come to life; the street itself is a stage; the city becomes an extension of the home. Users share a communal responsibility for the public space through their engagement with the program. Relationships are formed between the owner of the DIY store with his neighbours: including a children's nursery, as the shop window display is merged with the theatre and stage.

Intervention __ Site One. The first half-public intervention select one of most popular restaruant in lygon street (Universal) by introduce a new place for people to interact while waiting for the restaurant queue up.

Pavilion Intervention The space infront of the Parco Cafe transform into a pavilion to facilitate demands of the local business which provide a shelter with extra seats and secondary eating space. The street pinao occasionally converts to an informal stage for musical improvisation.

Intervention __ Site Two. Next to the 711, an urban 'island' envisioned into a public kitchen for BBQ and cup-noodle preparation etc. Collaborate with the 711 and potential social and service space for Argyle square during the event and festival.

'Garden' Intervention

Intervention __ Site Three The proposal of garden typology was informed by the observation of the local balcony plants which activate the use of land near the parking lot into a communal outdoor living place, implanted a garden that invites local occupants and tenants to communicate and socialize.

"Refuge by the River" is a masterplan that seeks to revitalise the northern site of birrarung as a place of refuge from congested city life. The masterplan was underpinned by guiding principles that helped inform the design and concepts behind creating a cultural masterplan. The masterplan is the read as a series of conditions at key moments along the northbank.

Ground Floor Plan

The mildly gradient of the green roof above the ground set a playful stage adjacent to the river, create a new relationship between nature and the urban landscape to resonate with the vibe of the waterfront.

As part of the waterfront masterplan, a new cultural building was selected on the existing enterprise park, the district from where the settlers aboard the ship Enterprize. Proposing a new relationship with the Yarra River and extend the value and legacy of indigenous culture.

The spiral ramp in the central atrium creates a sunken plaza to host events and activities which functionally independent while other programs are closed. It also connects all levels while creating a different entry to experience the building.

Taking heed from the history and embracing its aboriginal legacy. The nonlinear plan was inspired by the form of scarred trees which aboriginal people removed bark from trees to make various uses such as canoes, containers and build temporary shelters etc. The building form a respectfully insertion in its new waterfront masterplan, while carving its unique peculiarity.
