About As far back as I can remember, I have always been very curious about how everything works. I’d find myself bugging my parents and teachers with new questions every day. When I first delved into the world of design, I was still asking a lot of questions, but I was now answering them as well. I started working in carpentry and home

improvement which exposed me to construction and design firsthand. I jumped around from photography to graphic design until I finally found Architecture, a perfect blend of everything I was so passionate about. After graduating from ASU in Environmental Science, I wanted to further my study and get my Masters in Architecture. As I gain experience in the field, I look forward to cooperating with others and absorbing from many different perspectives. I hope to bring everything I have learned with me to my place of employment and provide valuable skills and points of view.

1. Adaptive Reuse – Oslo Embassy

5

This redesign of Saarinen’s Oslo Embassy keeps some of what made the original so elegant while also expanding on the range of guests that arrive. The embassy was redesigned to fit a hotel in the original structure while the new structure holds a more affordable hostel. Public spaces including amenities on the first floors and a rooftop lounge in the new addition are interconnected through bridges. In doing so, we could divide hotel and hostel while still promoting socialization between the two when desired. Here the goal was accomplished: a comfortable coexistence between the two, luxury and affordability.

Atrium Interior

Hotel Lounge & Hallway

8

Oslo Embassy The atrium was one of the most important aspects in the original design, so the decision to not only keep it but expand upon it led much of the redesign. The atrium was made wider and light from the canyon between the two buildings could help achieve more south side sun light. Amenities and lobby were kept in the first floor to be easily accessible and stay close to the atrium. The hotel rooms were kept in the 3 upper floors which have varying views through the sides.

9

Oslo Embassy The additional building serves as the hostel. The first floor holds the amenities and upper floors hold shared rooms for hostel guests. The roof top, which is connected via bridge to the 4th floor of the hotel, serves as a lounge and event space that promotes socialization between hotel and hostel guests.

2. Residential Complex – Vista al Canal

11

Vista al Canal The Vista al Canal housing adresses the unique triangular lot by lining the units up and facing them towards the canal to provide a view. Units A provide an integration into the neighborhood by facing the streetside and providing front yards and porches. The circulation of cars and foot traffic are designed to help promote walking and biking, given its proximity to a bike path.

3. Trailhead Entrance – Brown’s Peaks

13

Brown’s Peaks The trailhead leading up to the hiking path shows a jagged pathway that takes the user through the different structures. Each provides its own shade and bench along the path. The pathway zig zags along the buildings with the other side introducing the user to nature. The peaks at the top of the roofs point in various directions to give different views as one sits down. These peaks also emulate the mountain ranges to fit in better with nature. At the end, the amphitheater can also be used as a rest area when not being used for events, keeping an open side to the mountain ranges.
