Assignment4 This exercise is an exploration of how to compose a building section from a precedent study and image we provide to you. Sections are the most important detail of a building in that they reveal certain qualities and bits of information that would be otherwise, lost through its initial translation. As you continue thru your education, you will see how critical sections can be to articulate a particular design to your professors, peers, and clients. Part I: You will need to determine which building you want to develop a section drawing from. We will provide you with images of particular buildings that have sections as rastered images. From there, you will be required to import that image into AutoCAD and begin to compose a section. Open AutoCAD. Import/place/raster the image into the program and begin to set a dimensional scale based on the commands we taught you (scale, raster, import, export, and so on). Set up your layers! (4 at the minimum). Layers should be color coded: red, yellow, green, magenta, cyan.

3. Start composing the section. Pay attention to detail that may be "far away" and to the section cuts. Remember, you want to make sure that your line work is on their prospect layers. 4. Once finished composing section, go to the LAYOUTS tab at bottom of UI and right click to get a new model sheet. Right click on that and set your page information to the following: a. page size: 11x17 b. printer: Adobe PDF c. scale: 1 to 1
5. Now you need to scale your drawing in the paper space mode (model) to a desired scale. This can be achieved by selecting the scale bar at lower right corner of UI and selecting a scale such as 1/2" = 1'-0". 6. Once you position your drawing, hit CTRL +P to print to PDF. Find that file you just created, right click on PDF file and click on "OPEN WITH ILLUSTRATOR. 7. In Illustrator, begin separating lines by their colors as demonstrated in earlier assignments. Adjust line color and line weight accordingly and poche-in sectioned cut walls. 8. When finished with this, start to think how you want to represent this drawing. Do you just want to stop with this basic drawing to add additional elements. This can be achieved through adding a gradient for sky, adding a black ground, or adding tress and other entourage.

Assignment 3 + assigned 02.22.11 + due 02.31.11 9. For extra credit, take everything you've done in Illustrator, export out to JPG (making sure your Document ColorMode is set to RGB). 10. Open that JPG image into Photoshop and add additional elements, shading, color, anything that enhances the drawing (for extra credit). 11. Save the Illustrator file as 04.01_FirstNameInitialLastName_Sections.ai 12. Save the Illustrator file as 04.01_FirstNameInitialLastName_Sections.psd 13. Then Save file as: 04.01_ FirstNameInitialLastName_Sections.pdf 14. Close everything down. 15. Open the PDF file you just saved and Print from file. Must be printed and pinned up. 16. Again, this sheet must be at 11x17. Do not go any bigger. Do not allow the linework to overpower the entire page. Leave a substantial amount of white space on top to bottom. 16. Properly label your assignment with your identification.
