The Durden Athletic Training Center Building Tomorrow for Dickinson Athletics
Leaders are Made at Dickinson Dickinson builds leaders. This was the vision of our founder, Dr. Benjamin Rush. We challenge students to develop as dedicated and disciplined leaders through a rigorous academic program and through participation in intercollegiate and recreational sports and physicalfitness programs. Leadership development happens on the field and on the court. But it also happens in the weight room, straining to complete that final rep during a workout. It happens in the team meeting room, breaking down game film late into the night. And it happens in the locker room, bonding with teammates after a come-frombehind victory. Students who participate in competitive athletics and are committed to physical fitness need the very best, state-of-the-art facilities to achieve their highest potential as dedicated and disciplined leaders. In fact, our student-athletes are demanding top-notch training and competition venues because they want to develop themselves to the utmost. Peak conditioning and great health are among the highest goals—along with intellectual preparation—that Dickinson students challenge themselves to achieve. We are committed as an institution to giving them the means to achieve these goals. On the cover: The Durden Athletic Training Center’s dramatic entrance
But we need your help to get there …
“ The best athletes look for the best resources to help them develop and succeed. I truly believe that the Durden Center will provide that for our student athletes. The construction and opening of this top-quality facility is a huge step forward for the college and the athletics department. By focusing efforts to improve athletic facilities, Dickinson has further proven its dedication to providing the best resources for all students so that they can thrive in the activities they choose to pursue. —Caitlin Williams, Field Hockey Coach
The Next Step
Build the Future for Dickinson Athletics
Physical fitness and competitive athletics are integral to Dickinson’s ability to prepare engaged citizens for lives of purpose and leadership.
The new two-story, 22,000-square-foot Durden Athletic Training Center, named to honor the commitment and dedication of President William G. Durden ’71 and Dr. Elke Durden, will establish a 21st-century facility that meets these demands and helps us accomplish our mission of building future leaders.
However, our athletics and physical-fitness facilities are inadequate. Demands placed on these facilities are on the rise. Current spaces limit our ability to provide the rich athletic experiences and physical-development opportunities students increasingly crave.
Your support will help to provide: • LOCKER ROOMS for men’s and women’s lacrosse, football, field hockey, coaches, officials and visiting teams
Thanks to an extraordinarily generous lead gift, the Durden Athletic Training Center will replace out-of-date training, sports-medicine, locker and meeting facilities at the recently renovated Biddle Field.
• STRENGTH-TRAINING SPACE enabling all athletes to reach peak performance
We need your additional philanthropic support to complete the center and enable our student-athletes to excel.
• TEAM MEETING ROOMS supporting enhanced game preparation and doubling as a skybox-like event center with dramatic viewing terrace overlooking Biddle Field
•C UTTING-EDGE SPORTS-MEDICINE FACILITIES
• HALL OF FAME EXHIBIT AREA honoring exceptional athletes and teams
“ The Durden Center will have a huge impact on our current players, and it will also give us an edge in recruiting prospective student-athletes.” —Darwin Breaux, Football Head Coach

“ The existing locker room and strength-training space at Biddle Field effectively places a number of our sports at a competitive and recruiting disadvantage. The Durden Athletic Training Center will not only fulfill a critical need for us—it will also demonstrate that Dickinson is committed to future Dickinsonians, student-athletes, coaches and alumni.” —Les Poolman, Director of Athletics
