In the right conditions, some cultures can double in size in as fast as four minutes. Change. It’s inevitable and constant. Dickinson College offers a flexible liberalarts curriculum focused on the knowledge, awareness, skills, and values needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. We ask our students to think differently and act big. In return, they receive an unparalleled learning experience matched to their own interests and abilities that prepares them for a lifetime.

DICKINSON CAMPUS
Borders are merely imaginary lines that form an abstract division. Once a Dickinsonian, always a Dickinsonian. On campus, around Carlisle or in China, you’ll always be at home. With more than 40 programs on six continents in 24 countries, the opportunities you have at Dickinson extend beyond the classroom and across the globe. Perhaps it’s trekking coast-to-coast in England studying historic, literary and physical elements along the way, researching aquatic and terrestrial ecology at Woods Hole, or tracking the migrations of people between Morocco, France, and Spain. These experiences not only shape who you are but also create the place within that leads to self-discovery and self-definition for the rest of your life.

Growth rates in plants excel in specific environments. It doesn’t take long to discover where you fit in—on stage, in the classroom or volunteering your time. The 180-acre Dickinson College Farm is just one of the opportunities to find a place. In this living laboratory, students assist with all aspects of the farm’s food production as volunteers or employees. They learn firsthand how food is grown, processed, and distributed. As a result, they develop a greater awareness of renewable energy, organic farming, sustainability techniques, and how the choices they make impact and affect natural ecosystems.

Some sequoias grow alongside one another for centuries. Just as sequoias thrive together when a very specific set of conditions are present, Dickinson offers students a unique environment to grow in ways they never imagined and build lifelong connections. You’ll find them volunteering with Special Olympics, choreographing a dance routine with a spoken-word poem, and collaborating with faculty in Australia studying the effects of ocean acidification on marine life. We encourage every student to reflect on the world in which they live while fully engaging with the community at hand.

Every species is a direct result of evolution from a single ancestor. Strong genes make for easily identifiable traits. For generations, the students and alumni of Dickinson College have stayed true to the vision of our founders—to be decisive, useful, curious, unafraid to take risks, and actively engage with the world. Whether they create a path as a member of Congress, researcher, writer, CEO or curator, every graduate ventures forth with the personal values, critical thinking and leadership skills necessary to make sense of the complex world around them.

The color red intensifies physical reactions in humans. Serious athlete or passionate fan, you’ll feel right at home here. At Dickinson, we value the pursuit of excellence both on the field and in the classroom. That’s just the Red Devil way. All 23 of our intercollegiate athletic programs participate at the Division III level in the prestigious Centennial Conference. But our competitive spirit doesn’t stop there. In the fall of 2014 we’re adding both men’s and women’s squash programs.
