Advanced Placement - The AP Program accelerates learning by exposing students to college-level material through an advanced Placement course at their high school.

Gifted and Talented - The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) outlines both required and exemplary standards which serve as benchmarks for measuring gifted education program effectiveness.

The Davidson Academy - Opened in 2006 and located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, The Davidson Academy is the first public school of its kind for profoundly gifted middle and high school students.

International Baccalaureate - The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program is a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for a balanced quality university education that integrates all academic areas.

High School Signature Academy - Washoe County School District’s Signature Academies are an innovative approach to ensuring college and career readiness for all students. This initiative creates career and industry-based programs at each participating high school that prepare students for the workforce of tomorrow.

The Washoe County School District includes the Reno/ Sparks metropolitan area, Incline Village, Gerlach, Empire and Wadsworth. There are 63 elementary schools, a special education school, 14 middle schools and 13 comprehensive high schools. High school students may also apply to attend Truckee Meadows Community College High School (a magnet school), Washoe Innovations High School (an alternative school), or the Academy for Arts, Careers and Technology which offers a wide range of advanced level occupational classes.Additionally, the District sponsors eight public charter schools.
