▲DIEGO ▼DALIA ▲since 1986 www.diegodalia.com I am passionate about Ethnography. diedal@live.it I feel very enthusiastic in discovering cultures that are different from mine and +31634574586 in learning about them. I have a strong interest in working in low-income and developing countries. Users are the core of my research and I have a preference in designing systems of products and services in which technology and human interactions are highly involved.
a new day is not another day, no matter how it starts. nothing happens without a reason, always try to get the most out of it. learn from what happens around you: from people, from nature, or whatever other thing that comes under your nose. Do you think this is too much? I don’t, but SORRY I’M A DESIGNER
Methodology The scheme on the side visualizes the methodology that I usually adopt and the research methods I am more comfortable with. During my academic and work career I have improved my knowledge of the User-Centered Design method, acquiring a certain experience in tackling the research problems during all the phases of the design process. A broad range of qualitative and quantitative research methods have been learnt and practiced, taking in account both human factors and technical aspects. I have had the opportunity to work on several projects that focused on understanding users behaviors and needs, also exploring the context in which they live. My main specialty is the interpretation of the results collected, and the development of design concepts that satisfy market’s requests and users requirements.

Mobile Marketplace. Designing Digital Devices to Connect Rural & Urban China This Research project was conducted by Studio TAO and Tongji University, and powered by Nokia. The aim was to develop an eco-system of products and services, in order to fill the socioeconomical gap between rural and urban China, connecting users through digital communication devices. The project took place between the Shanghai urban environment and the close rural area of Chongming Island; it lasted 14 months and has been articulated in three different phases, to which joined several practictioners.
Awards and publications _A paper has been accepted for presentation and publication at International Design Research Society Conference in Bangkok, July 2012. _The project has been exhibit at Design Museum in Helsinki, during the Design Harvests Exhibition hosted in from January 2012 to May 2012 in the framework of Helsinki Design Capital, Design World Exhibition
Juju, an enabling solution to guarantee digital inclusion in the perspective of the Smart City This project took place in Shanghai (China), a modern environment in which modernity coexists with tradition. Expo 2010 provided a huge contribution to this transformation, accelerating its development and improving quality of life. Although, the rapidity in which these changes occurred created an imbalance that brought out the existing gap between social groups and urban areas. In this framework of exhaustive renewal, I decided to investigate the effects that these changes will have on the citizens both before and during its implementation. The aim is to understand if the users are ready to accept this umpteenth change that will have a great fallout on their lives. The data collected during the research phase has been analyzed and interpreted in order to find design opportunities useful to develop an output along the design phase. The final outcome is a computer based platform made to deliver an enabling solution that can guarantee to users digital and social inclusion in the perspective of the Smart City.

Navigation of blind people in unfamiliar environments One of the most difficult tasks for severely visually impaired persons is navigation outside the comfort zone, such as the home and other familiar areas. There exists a number of technologies which help blind people to navigate through the environment. Based on the literature review and also assessing currently existing devices for blinds’ navigation, we decided to benefit from a balanced combination of different existing technologies and devices to stimulate different modalities to fulfill multiple objectives in our design. The main output of the literature review is the planning of an experiment useful to understand the suitability of the solution proposed.

Yoga @ home - the added value of multimodal interaction to the existing product Yoga is the discipline of aligning the mind and body for spiritual goals. It has become one of the highest popular movement based relaxation activities and is usually associated to health maintenance (Birdee, et al, 2008). Yoga can not just be done in yoga centres or gyms. There are also options to pursue yoga at home. Different training tools to do physical exercises at home are available in the market, such as books, videos and kinect applications. The latter is particularly relevant as users movements can be tracked. One example is “Your Shape Fitness, which includes a yoga session, but needs to be improved. The use of multimodal feedback can enhance performance (Lee & Charles, 2008) and experience. Therefore, we propose a system that supports users in doing yoga at home by giving them proper multimodal feedback in order to enjoy an intense yoga experience.

Exploring the application fields of idAnimate IdAnimate application has been designed followed by the raising demand of communicating the product characteristic to customer and other designers in the early stage of design process. There are variety of animation applications and softwares in the market right now. Also, basic and advanced applications are available for different devices. In the educational study and professional use, it is common that one application or software become popular in specific educational or professional discipline. The study conducted aimed to understand if idAnimate, as it’s current form, would have more beneficial usage in one design field than for the others.

Method to nvestigate customer’s willingness to pay for the Philips solar lamp in Kenya
The method is based on a combination of two techniques to estimate customer’s willingness to pay. Data collected can be used to determine customerperceived value, to set a reasonable price for a new product in the market, and to help companies sell the product.
