TINY HOUSE LOT 9 WOODLAWN LAKE PARK

ARC 2166 - Digital Design Studio - Fall 2017 Software Used: Revit + Photoshop Instructor: Neda Norouzi

PROGRAM STATEMENT

PROJECT NARRATIVE. This was the second, and final project for the Fall semester Digital Design studio, and the second project from Sophomore year. This studio was focused on the learning, and use of computer-aided designed, and post-production digital software. Location for this project is at Woodlawn Lake Park in San Antonio, Texas. Woodlawn Lake Park is well known for its variety of outdoor activities, amenities and overall an amazing scenery for people to walk around. The proposal of this project is to create a community of tiny houses on the edge of the lake. In order to create this community, each one of my studio partners had to design its own house, bringing 14 houses in total. Each one of us got a especific lot, and dimensions for our houses. Each lot is measured at 16’ x 24‘ with a 6’ space in between each house. The plan was not to exceed the given 384 sq.ft. from the given lot.

PROJECT PROGRAM. Tiny home not to exceed the given 16’ x 24’ (384 sq.ft.) lot. 1 Bedroom. Kitchen. Living Room. 1 Bathroom. Efficient storage system. Efficient circulation. Efficient distribution of spaces + dimensions.

PROCESS DEVELOPMENT

Inital mass.

Creation of a second mass for more space.

Removal of masses in first and second level, creating open spaces.

The goal for this proposal was to maintain the idea of a tiny house, without making the most common areas feel clustered or having poor circulation, instead all of the common areas have excellent circulation, and storage for the essentials is not a problem in this house. With high ceilings, two balconies with views to the park and the lake, and enough natural light, this tiny house feels like a regular size home.

PROCESS DEVELOPMENT Exterior Materials Black shipping container metal Steel for framing

Interior Materials

Painted drywall Gray wood flooring

2

The exterior material of the house consists of black metal with steel framing details on each of the corners, giving the reference of living in a container home. As soon as you enter the house you will find yourself in a bright interior space, differentiating it from the dark exterior material. Stairs have storage underneath, and a full-size washer and dryer. Stairs are surrounded by wood louvers that go all the way up to the second level. Louvers create the railing required for the opening space.

LECTURE HALL VITRA CAMPUS

ARC 4156 - Building Design Studio - Summer 2019 Software Used: Revit + Enscape Instructor: Taeg Nishimoto

PROGRAM STATEMENT

PROJECT NARRATIVE. This was the second project for the Summer Building Design studio, and the second project from Senior year. For this project we were asked to propose a design for a new lecture hall that would engage with the surrounding buildings on Vitra Design Museum. Vitra is a Swiss family-owned modern furniture company with headquarters in Birsfelden, Switzerland. Vitra is also known for owning the Vitra Design Museum located in Weil am Rhein, Germany. This Campus contains the biggest furniture collection, and works of well known architects such as Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Frank Gehry, Alvaro Siza, and Renzo Piano, among others. This proposal is composed of a inner three story volume, covered by a second volume of aluminum, giving the posibility of accesing the second and third levels of the inner volume and create gathering areas on it.

PROJECT PROGRAM. Lecture Hall with a total of 200 fixed seats. Exterior Amphitheater. Gallery. Catering area with a small kitchen. Green Room. Lobby Reception. 500 sq.ft. of efficient storage. Balcony with an overview of Vitra Campus.

SOCIAL HOUSING URBANIZACION MENDEZ

ARC 4156 - Building Design Studio - Fall 2019 Software Used: Revit + Enscape + Photoshop Instructor: Analy Diego

PROGRAM STATEMENT PROJECT NARRATIVE. This was the first, and only, semester long project for the Fall Building Design studio, and my last project from undergrad. For this project we were asked to propose a redesigned neighborhood for a community affected by Hurricane Maria back in September 2017. The selected neighborhood is located in Urbanizacion Mendez in the city of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is constantly affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes, for this reason this proposal takes in consideration materials that can be hurricane resistant, and easy to obtain within the island. This project also focuses on affordability. The proposed homes are designed to share a single structure composed of steel beams and columns, and poured with cast-in-place concrete, in order to improve stiffness in the event of another natural disaster. The selected site currently accommodates 34 homes. We were asked to design, and replace the actual number of homes in the site. With this in mind, we were also required to propose a redesigned site in order to accommodate more homes, and create more spaces for residents to enjoy, and stay together as a whole community. This proposal accommodates up to 40 homes, and brings common areas for residents.

PROJECT PROGRAM. Master Bedroom, and 2 bedrooms in each home. 1 Master Bathroom, 1 Shared Bathroom, and 1 Powder Room. Kitchen. 1 Car Garage. Living Room. Laundry Room. Playground Zone. Common Area (Pavilion + Amphitheater). Fast Access on all corners. Fast Access to the Baseball Field.

ARC 2156 - Drawing & Modeling Studio - Spring 2018 Software Used: Revit + Photoshop Instructor: Craig Blount

PROGRAM STATEMENT PROJECT NARRATIVE. This was the second project for the Spring semester Drawing and Modeling studio, and the last project from Sophomore year. It builds on the skills and knowledge gained during the year. For this project we were asked to design a high riser boutique hotel that is intended to attract visitors from around the globe who travel to San Antonio to see the newly designated World Heritage Site – the San Antonio Missions. Part of the design incorporates a small museum and educational exhibit spaces to introduce visitors to the missions, history of San Antonio’s physical and cultural development resulting from the presence of our 5 missions. As a global destination, the hotel required a need to reflect contemporary trends in architecture and interior architectural design, at the same time it address the historical conditions of the given site, existing structure and traditions of mission architecture. ARC 2156 - Drawing and Modeling studio, required 100% hand drawings on elevations, floorplans and sections for the final presentation. This project was later drawn using Revit in order to create a better visualization of it.

PROJECT PROGRAM. Total of 40 units. 2-3 units per floor. Lobby area with Front desk. Restaurant. Near the Lobby, with access to back of the house. Back of the House (BoTH). Including Kitchen, Trash Storage, Employee Areas, Laundry + Housekeeping, and Mechanical Room. Accounting Office, Admin Office and Security Office located in the BoTH. Exhibit Space. Conference Rooms. Health Club with exercise area, lockers and restrooms. Bookstore with Computers + Printing Zone. Coffee Shop. Library. Giftshop. Bar, attached to Restaurant + Rooftop bar.
